Sukala said: Arrows and spears, released by the hunters, fell thickly like rain upon a great mountain; thus, in the midst of the earth, the boar, the leader of the herd, was struck down by those with firm blows and was then subdued in battle by hundreds.
With his own sons, grandsons, and relatives, he destroyed his enemies; those hunters, slain in battle, fell by his own sharp tusks.

Once more, the boar, skilled in battle, desired combat, agitating the earth in anger with his sharp teeth and claws at the tip of his snout; roaring with pride, he struck at the pure king, and, O king, recognizing the valor of Vishnu, Manu’s son was thrilled with joy.

Seeing the incomparable valor of the boar, the lord considered in his mind that this was none other than the enemy of the gods in the form of a boar; observing the great and numerous forces assembled for the destruction of the boar, he quickly gathered his army.

The valiant lord of Kosala, seeing that unconquerable one in battle, fighting with a massive body and roaring like a cloud, was amazed.
He roared, moved about the battlefield, and shone among the warriors by his own splendor; his tusks in his mouth gleamed like lightning.

Manu’s son, seeing the boar pierced by sharp arrows, saw each of his relatives struck down by weapons.
The king said: Warriors, why do you not seize him here with your strength? Fight there with sharp and keen arrows, even against this one.
Hearing these words of the great-souled, though angry, all the soldiers then assembled for battle.
With countless thousands of warriors, they surrounded him as he stood in the forest for battle, and attacked the boar on all sides in the fight.
Then, pierced by showers of arrows from some mighty warriors on the battlefield, sometimes by blows of discs, sometimes by thunderbolt strikes, that unconquerable one was struck in battle by the great heroes.
Then, filled with courage and anger, the boar broke through the nooses in battle and set out; together with the great boars, he departed, drenched even with streams of blood.

Angered, he severed the trunk of the elephant; delighted, he slew the warriors with the nails of his feet.

The boars were slain by the hunters, and the skilled hunters by the boars; fallen to the ground, they lay bloodied and wounded.
The hunters, killed by the boars, fell dead in battle, and there too the boars died, and the dogs gave up their lives.
Wherever the animal-slayers lay dead upon the ground, many boars were struck down by the king's sword blows.
How many lost or slain boars, frightened, hid in fortresses, in thickets, at the ends of ravines, and at the mouths of caves, O best of kings?

Some hunters died, their bodies torn apart by the tusks of boars; having surrendered their lives, they went to heaven, mangled in pieces.
