Through attachment to relatives and likewise to wife and others, O goddess, he becomes increasingly agitated and disturbed day by day.
Confused by great delusion, caught in the net of illusion, the lord is like a fish ensnared by a fisherman in the bonds of a net.
He is not able to move at all, so bound is the self—tied by all those strong bonds of the nets of delusion.
Thus, pervaded by this primordial expanse, the all-pervading, he is deprived of knowledge and wisdom, struck down by attachment, aversion, and the like.
Afflicted by desire and likewise by anger, bound by nature and by action, he is born greatly deluded.
Suta said: Thus, when the self is deluded, subject to desire and anger, it is occupied by all those evil ones—greed, attachment, and the rest.
"This is my wife, this is my son, this is my friend, this is my house"—thus, bound by the net of worldly existence and great delusion.
Then, afflicted by various sorrows such as grief for his son, and seized by old age, disease, and also by anxieties—
Thus, the self, tormented by severe sorrows and delusions, is shattered by pride, humiliation, and various kinds of suffering.
Afflicted by old age, O goddess, and by the marks of aging, he constantly thinks of his suffering, crying out in distress, bewildered.
At night, he sees dreams; by day, he is devoid of consciousness. Thus, O Devi, he is afflicted by the impairment of his limbs, day by day.
For one wandering in worldly existence, detachment is revealed there: without doubt, without kin, peaceful, and content.
Then the self, free from desire and anger, spoke: Who are you, in this naked form? How is it that you do not feel shame among friends?
Where people, women, elders, young women, and mothers are present, you have gone among them, uncovered, and do not fear.
The dispassionate one spoke: Who here is seen as naked? I am never naked. You, well-bound and clothed, are the one adorned with garments.
I am never naked; only one who is subject to the senses and their objects, and who abandons restraint, is truly seen as naked.
The self spoke: What is the restraint for a person? Tell me, O virtuous one, in detail, O great sage, if you know it with certainty.
The dispassionate, wise one, with great intellect, replied: The mind attains firm steadiness always, in both pleasure and pain.
When afflicted by all conditions, one abandons them; now I will speak of shame, which the mind enters completely.
I should not act thus today, standing naked and without place; when one is deeply regretful afterward, that is called shame.
For whom should shame be enacted? There is never a second. The person is alone and divine; who can destroy anything of his?
Now I will speak of the people you mentioned: just as a potter places a lump of clay on the wheel,
Having spun it with a thread, he reveals various forms; thousands of vessels, according to his own wish and intelligence.
In the same way, the creator produces various forms, not otherwise; afterward, they perish for whatever reason.
Those who are always established, and the eternal worlds, for them shame should be enacted; they do not return to earth.
Space, air, fire, earth, and water as the fifth—these worlds are manifest, and are established everywhere.
The beings are well established in these five elements, in every limb; they exist everywhere—so for whom is shame prescribed?
I will now speak of the form of women; listen, dear one, at this moment: just as among thousands of pots, the water shines forth.
Just as one moon shines everywhere, so too does the great soul shine forth, having departed from the multitude of beings caught in the wheel of delusion.
In all stationary and moving beings, you enter through the gateway of birth, by means of sin and the illusion of delusion.
