There, my two ministers are the eyes, which accomplish the attainment of substances; thus have I described my own activity before you.
Jala (Water) said: 'I always satisfy the body with nectar; in this way, my function in the city of the body is dear.'
Know that my minister is the tongue, supreme in tasting flavors; the Nose said: 'By pleasant fragrance, I greatly nourish the body.'
Rejecting foul odors, I present fragrance in the body; O greatly fortunate one, it is realized through intelligence, and is absent without it.
For the master's purpose, I remain unmoving in this body; know that my quality is fragrance, which is of two kinds as it manifests.
The two Ears said: 'We hear all sounds, good and bad, spoken by people concerning what should and should not be done, truth and falsehood, what is dear and not dear, while abiding in our own body.'
Sound is indeed said to be my quality, and my function as well; I engage it, without doubt, whenever the intellect commands.
The skin spoke: The wind, composed of five forms, is established in this body.
I truly know their activities, both external and internal: cold, heat, sunlight, rain, and the stirring of the wind.
I know all sensations—contact, union, and the like among people; touch alone is my quality—this I declare as truth.
Thus, I have explained to you my function. The eyes spoke: O noble one, all forms in the world, auspicious and inauspicious—
When the intellect prompts, then we see; not otherwise. Within the body, form is the quality for both of us.
Thus is our connection of function within the body, O greatly wise one. The tongue spoke: Endowed with intellect, I discern the varieties of taste.
I consider all tastes—salty, sour, and the rest, tasteless or sweet. By this function, I am always present.
For all the senses, intellect is the leader. Thus, the five senses have come together—listen, dear one.
They repeatedly speak of their own actions. Then intellect arrived and addressed the greatly wise one.
When the body is deprived of me, it perishes—never otherwise. Therefore, relying on me, conduct yourself, O greatly wise one.
Then action arrived and spoke to the self: I am action, O greatly wise one, come to your side.
I send you forth by that path along which you go here. Hearing all this, the self spoke to them.
You are all endowed with fivefold nature, indeed common to all. Why do you seek friendship with the fivefold one?
Let all of you state the reason for this before me. The fivefold ones said: Through our union and association, the body is produced.
In that body, O greatly wise and virtuous one, you dwell. We all remain there by your favor.
For this reason, we always desire your friendship. The self spoke: So be it, O greatly fortunate ones, and may you have what is dear to you.
I will do so, without doubt; friendship is indeed for the sake of affection. Though restrained even by wisdom, the greatly fortunate one—
And by meditation, that great soul came into their company; there, he was deluded by them through attachment, aversion, and the like.
Endowed with the five elements, the Lord took on a body; when he entered the womb, filled with excrement and urine,
He fell, together with them, into that foul-smelling, slimy vortex; distressed in his body, he spoke to the fivefold beings.
"O all you fivefold beings, listen to my words! Through association with you, I have been deluded by great suffering.
Here, in this slimy, dreadful place, I have fallen into great danger." The fivefold beings said: "Wait here, O king, until the womb is filled.
Afterwards, your exit will surely take place—there is no doubt; for you are our master, established in the region of the body.
