This most secret of secrets was proclaimed by the Sun; it was told to Yama, and on earth, celebrated by Vyāsa.
Thus, in the glorious Padma Purāṇa, in the first section on creation, ends the seventy-ninth chapter, called the Story of Bhadreśvara.

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: The radiance of the Lord of the Planets has been heard by us through your grace; now tell us, O twice-born, the means for the planets beginning with the Sun.
Who are those beginning with the Sun? How are they pleased, how are they made favorable? When the proper time and place arrives, what is their sight—auspicious or inauspicious?
Vyāsa said: The planets and others in this world partake of both merit and sin; they bring about both auspicious and inauspicious results, for the exhaustion of the world's karma.
The Sun, known as Time and Death, is to be understood among people and among the planets; by his fierce and gentle conjunctions, he is lord of both restraint and favor.
Now, due to the influence of the planets, I shall declare the means of satisfaction: whoever offers oblations with the tender shoots of udumbara and palāśa trees,

For the pacification of all diseases and for the release of captives, one should offer a hundred oblations with each mantra.
One should give a sharp goat's throat on a Sunday, and feed brāhmaṇas to the best of one's ability with delightful offerings of cooked and uncooked food.
On the seventh day of the bright fortnight and likewise on the fifteenth, the sick person is freed from disease and will not suffer from illness.
The supreme pure essence, from the smallest atom to the cosmic pillar, and within the cosmic egg, is to be regarded as the Sun.
From creation, maintenance, and dissolution, in order, and in the generation of living beings, he protects all, moving throughout the universe in his form.
At the time of death, from the middle of the body, along with the life-breath, it departs; the Moon, always situated at the crown, is endowed with sixteen digits.
Day and night, he showers nectar downward in the body; by that, creatures live, from the greatest beings to those the size of an atom.
He nourishes the crops on earth, as well as the immobile and mobile beings; by these two radiant ones, the world is sustained and produced.
By worshipping these two, one always attains abundant and virtuous nourishment; the pure practitioner accomplishes all undertakings.
The base man who, out of delusion, does not worship the nectar-rayed Moon, his lifespan diminishes and he attains hell.
O blemishless one, bearer of rays, O Gangādhara, crest-jewel! On the second lunar day, Lord of the universe, O Moon, I bow to you.

O divine-formed one, I bow to you, O nectar-maker, Lord of the world! In both the bright and dark fortnights, the wise know the three watches of the night.
The mantra to be recited is: 'ū~ hrāṃ hrīṃ, obeisance to Soma.' This should be recited in the morning. Whoever worships Soma thus, recites or hears it, becomes like nectar in this world, birth after birth.
Whoever, on earth, praises and worships with these thousand names, attains imperishable heaven, and rebirth becomes difficult for him.

Thus, in the worship of Soma, in a brass or bronze vessel filled with curd and ghee, one should offer according to one's means, whether less or more, having heard this rite without envy.
Or in a vessel of gold or silver, on an auspicious day, in the dark fortnight on a Wednesday, one should place it in every sacred place and give it to one who has many sons.
Great good fortune arises, exceedingly greater than nectar; for women and men, there is never misfortune.
Desiring beauty and good fortune, I give a vessel filled with curd, placed in a bronze container; grant me beauty and good fortune.
