Cutting those arrows with his own, the valiant one pierced him with missiles, heavy and irresistible, blazing like submarine fire upon contact.
With sharp, piercing arrows and swords swift as the mind, by the agility of Keshava's weapons, they were like dry grass or cotton.
Struck by thousands of golden arrows, the chief of demons, tormented and enraged, seized a mountain in battle.
With great force, Hiranyaksha, mighty in strength, struck Madhava; but Hari effortlessly crushed him with his mace.
In this way, a thousand mountains were successively cast down, and likewise, by Hari's agility, they were ground to dust by the enemy of the Danavas.
Again, that foremost of Danavas created thousands of arms, and with exceedingly fierce arrows, spears, tridents, axes, and other weapons—
He rained many weapons upon Vishnu, his mind seized by wrath; but the best of the gods cut down those missiles sent by him.
With blazing, terrible arrows, dreadful to the demons, he pierced all their limbs with arrows resembling the trident of Shambhu.
In the battle, the imperishable Hari, lord of the gods, brought the demon king, though possessed of supreme power, into a state of faintness.
He swiftly hurled upon Hari's broad chest a terrible weapon, like the tongue of Time, adorned with eight bells.
He, the best among the gods, shone like a raincloud dense with lightning and moonlight; then the Daityas, uttering words of praise, cried out, 'Victory!'
Then the enemy of the Dānavas hurled his discus at the Daitya army; cutting off their heads, it returned again to Mādhava.
He struck down the Daitya in battle with a blow of his spear; after a long time, regaining consciousness, he wounded Keśava with a fiery arrow.
In battle, Hari, enraged, struck down Kaubera; then the Asura released a most dreadful magical weapon.
Lions, tigers, jackals, likewise elephants and serpents—Hiraṇyākṣa, mighty in valor, struck down Viṣṇu with these in battle.
Then Hari cut down with arrows the torrents of weapons and missiles produced by the magical weapon in battle, and struck them with his spear as well.
His whole body shaken and at that moment stained with blood, Viṣṇu, his form drenched in gore, dragged away the Asura.
The lord of the gods pierced that spear with three arrows, and struck down the armor, the banner, the standard, the chariot, and the parasol.
Hari cut down the charioteer with ten arrows; when the chariot was brought down, the Daitya leapt and mounted another excellent chariot.
That Daitya lord ascended and faced his opponent with strength; then there arose a most terrible and hair-raising battle.
Between Hiraṇyākṣa and Hari, there was a great and astonishing duel of weapons, each countering the other.
Then, in that combat, a hundred divine years passed; then the Daitya, of great strength, grew as Vāmana once did.
With his mouth, in anger, he seized the three worlds with all their moving and unmoving beings; lifting up the earth, he entered Rasātala.
The remaining Daityas, filled with joy, followed him and entered as well; then Viṣṇu, of great splendor, knowing the immense Daitya power—
Assuming the form of a boar, desiring to slay the Daitya king, Viṣṇu took on the body of a boar and entered after him as he fled.
There, going to the root of the waters, he saw the earth in Rasātala; holding the earth, the support of the worlds, on his own tusks.
As Viṣṇu of immeasurable splendor was carrying her away, the Daitya lord approached, boldly reviling him with harsh words.
Viṣṇu, in his magical boar form, endured the harsh words in anger; upon the waters, he bore this earth, like a mountain.
There, placing his own essence, he made it immovable at that time; then afterwards, joined with it, the king of the Daityas approached.
Overcome by great anger, he struck Hari with his mace; but by his illusion, Viṣṇu in the form of a boar evaded that mace.
