वसून्सर्वांश्च सशरैः सिद्धगंधर्वपन्नगान्। दशाष्टदशभिः षडिभर्युद्धे देवान्भिनत्त्यसौ
He wounded all the Vasus with arrows, as well as Siddhas, Gandharvas, and serpents; in battle, he struck the gods with ten, eighteen, and six arrows.
ओजौघादतिवीर्यात्तु शीघ्रलाघवर्दशनान्। आपत्प्राप्ताः सुरा भीत्या प्रतिकर्तुं न चेश्वराः
Because of his overwhelming strength and the force of his attacks, the gods, though swift and powerful, were struck with fear and unable to resist.
महेशशूलसंकाशैः शरैर्मर्मविभेदिभिः। ताडिता निर्जरा युद्धे मूर्च्छिता धरणीं ययुः

There, wounded, they sought refuge in Hari, the protector; at that moment, Vishnu spoke to Jishnu, the lord of birds.
अधुना गच्छ दैत्यस्य संमुखं रणमूर्धनि। नाशाय सततस्तूर्णं गतस्तस्यांतिकं जवात्
Now go swiftly to the forefront of battle against the demon; always hasten to his side for his destruction.
सरथं मार्गणैर्भित्वा विष्णुमारोधयज्जवम्। रथस्य संमुखे दैत्य उवाच विष्णुमव्ययम्
Having shattered his chariot with arrows, Vishnu quickly restrained his speed; facing the chariot, the demon spoke to the imperishable Vishnu.
अन्य सृष्टिं करोम्यद्य हत्वा त्वां च सनिर्ज्जरम्। ततो विष्णुरुवाचेदं गर्जंतं दैत्यपुंगवम्
Today, after slaying you along with the immortals, I will create another creation; then Vishnu addressed that roaring chief of demons.
शक्तस्त्वं स्पर्द्धने पाप यदि युद्धे स्थिरो भव। ततः शरशतैरेव जघान विष्णुमव्ययम्
If you are capable in contest, O wicked one, then stand firm in battle; then he struck the imperishable Vishnu with a shower of arrows.
असंभ्रांतः स चिच्छेद यमदंडनिभान्शरान्। पुनः शरसहस्राणि प्रेरयामास तं रणे

In this way, a thousand mountains were successively cast down, and likewise, by Hari's agility, they were ground to dust by the enemy of the Danavas.
पुनर्बाहुसहस्राणि कृत्वासौ दानवोत्तमः। शरैः शक्तिभिरत्युग्रैः शूलैः परशुकादिभिः
Again, that foremost of Danavas created thousands of arms, and with exceedingly fierce arrows, spears, tridents, axes, and other weapons—
ववर्ष बहुभिर्विष्णुं क्रोधाविष्टेन चेतसा। तांस्तु तेनैव प्रहितांश्चिच्छेद सुरसत्तमः
He rained many weapons upon Vishnu, his mind seized by wrath; but the best of the gods cut down those missiles sent by him.
शरैर्दीप्तैर्महाघोरैरसुराणां भयंकरैः। विव्याध सर्वगात्रेषु शंभुशूलोपमैश्शरैः
With blazing, terrible arrows, dreadful to the demons, he pierced all their limbs with arrows resembling the trident of Shambhu.
दानवाधिपतिः संख्ये ह्यव्ययो हरिरीश्वरः। स च कश्मलतां गत्वा सर्वशक्तिमनुत्तमाम्
In the battle, the imperishable Hari, lord of the gods, brought the demon king, though possessed of supreme power, into a state of faintness.
कालजिह्वोपमां घोरामष्टघंटासमन्विताम्। हरेरुरसि पीने च विद्रुत्या पातयद्द्रुतम्
He swiftly hurled upon Hari's broad chest a terrible weapon, like the tongue of Time, adorned with eight bells.
शुशुभे स सुरश्रेष्ठस्तडित्त्वत्सान्द्रमेघवत्। ततश्च चुक्रुशुर्दैत्या जयेति साधुवादिनः
He, the best among the gods, shone like a raincloud dense with lightning and moonlight; then the Daityas, uttering words of praise, cried out, 'Victory!'
ततश्चक्रं दैत्यसैन्ये दानवारिर्व्यसर्जयत्। तेषां शिरांसि संच्छिद्य माधवं पुनरागमत्
Then the enemy of the Dānavas hurled his discus at the Daitya army; cutting off their heads, it returned again to Mādhava.
स दैत्यं शक्तिपातेन पातयामास वै रणे। चिरात्संज्ञां समालंब्य वह्निबाणेन केशवम्
He struck down the Daitya in battle with a blow of his spear; after a long time, regaining consciousness, he wounded Keśava with a fiery arrow.
निजघान रणे क्रुद्धो हरिः कौबेरमाक्षिपत्। ततो मुमोच मायास्त्रं चासुरं चातिदारुणम्
In battle, Hari, enraged, struck down Kaubera; then the Asura released a most dreadful magical weapon.
सिंहव्याघ्रलुलायांश्च तद्वद्द्विप सरीसृपान्। जघान समरे विष्णुं हिरण्याक्षः प्रतापवान्
Lions, tigers, jackals, likewise elephants and serpents—Hiraṇyākṣa, mighty in valor, struck down Viṣṇu with these in battle.
ततो मायास्त्रसंभूतान्शस्त्रास्त्रौघान्रणे हरिः। प्रचिच्छेद शरैरेव शूलेनैवमताडयत्
Then Hari cut down with arrows the torrents of weapons and missiles produced by the magical weapon in battle, and struck them with his spear as well.
स विह्वलित सर्वांगस्तत्क्षणं लोहितोक्षितः। विचकर्ष हरन्विष्णुरसृग्विप्लुतविग्रहः
His whole body shaken and at that moment stained with blood, Viṣṇu, his form drenched in gore, dragged away the Asura.
तच्छूलं च त्रिभिर्बाणैः प्रविव्याध सुराधिपः। वरूथं सध्वजं केतुं रथं चैवातपत्रकम्
The lord of the gods pierced that spear with three arrows, and struck down the armor, the banner, the standard, the chariot, and the parasol.
यंतारं च प्रचिच्छेद दशभिश्च हरिः शरैः। पातिते च रथे दैत्यः संप्लुत्याथ रथं परम्
Hari cut down the charioteer with ten arrows; when the chariot was brought down, the Daitya leapt and mounted another excellent chariot.
आरुरोह स दैत्येंद्रः संमुखं चाकरोद्बली। ततो युद्धं महाघोरमभवल्लोमहर्षणम्
That Daitya lord ascended and faced his opponent with strength; then there arose a most terrible and hair-raising battle.
