Whoever, out of delusion, disregards him at a great festival, for him there is no success, and defeat in battle also.
By you, in the great sacrifice, the worship of the Lord of the Gaṇas was performed; but not properly, out of delusion, and thus defeat was attained.
Go quickly to the holy place of the great-souled Lord of the Gaṇas; perform worship, O knowers of dharma, and victory will soon be yours.
Then, hearing the words of Hara, which brought safety and benefit, all the gods, delighted, stood before the Lord of the Gaṇas.
The gods said: "O Lord of the Gaṇas, salutations to you, guardian of all the gods; giver of heavenly enjoyment, with affection, Heraṃba, we bow to you."
"Giver of victory in all battles, giver of success in all actions, of great magic, of great form, Heraṃba, we bow to you."
"One-tusked, greatly wise, long-snouted Vināyaka, god of the great sages and gods, and of Indra, we bow to you."
"That worship of yours, which was not performed in the sacrifice before, forgive us for it." Hearing the words of the gods, the Lord of the Gaṇas spoke.
You gods, choose a boon from me, whatever you desire.
Then all the gods, led by Brihaspati and Indra, said to Ganesha: 'Let victory be ours.'
Ganesha replied: 'So be it, best of gods, may victory quickly be yours.'
Then all the hosts of gods, their hearts filled with joy, worshipped Ganesha with fragrant substances and ornaments,
with divine incense, fine garments, and flowers from Nandana, with parijata and other flowers delightful to the gods.
Honored by the gods, the Lord of Hosts spoke to the best of the gods: 'Go, O wise ones, to the wondrously heroic god Vishnu. He will fulfill your wish.'
Then, mounting their own chariots, they went to the imperishable Hari, and after bowing to the one clad in yellow, the hosts of gods joyfully spoke:
'Having reached the son of Hara and worshipped the Lord of Hosts, we have now come to you, O great-souled Keshava.'
Hearing the words of the gods, the imperishable Hari replied truthfully: 'I will slay the foremost of the Daityas.'
Hearing the nectar-like words flowing from Narayana's mouth, the gods, filled with joy, worshipped him with their cherished offerings.
Then Vishnu again spoke to the gods, with Indra at their head: 'Gather your own forces and be ready, free from anxiety.'
'I will destroy those wicked ones and all their strength; you, having gathered your weapons, stand firm and without fear.'
Hearing Madhava's words, the foremost of the gods departed, all mounting their aerial chariots, equipped with divine weapons.
The words of joy spoken by the gods were heard by the Daitya spies, who reported them to the mighty king Hiranyaksha.
Hearing this, the Daitya lord, mighty as he was, became enraged, and, summoning his ministers, spoke to them in anger.
'Now all the gods, beginning with Indra, with cruel intent and seeking Madhava, have reported everything to Shambhu.'
'How shall we gain victory over the fierce host of Daityas?' Thus the gods, worshipping Ganesha, asked Tripurari.
'Having worshipped that god, you will conquer the Asuras and Danavas.' Then, worshipped by the delighted hosts of gods, the Lord of Hosts...
By the satisfaction of the Lord of the Ganas, a great and terrible boon was granted: 'Today you shall conquer all the Asuras; therefore, the gods rejoiced.'
Desiring to kill us, they informed Hari; and having clearly heard of Hari, the charioteers, weapons in hand—
The immortals, filled with fear, stand ready for battle; let each declare his power here to defeat the gods.
Then, having heard the king's words, he spoke sweetly: 'I shall defeat Hari, O King; appoint an ally for me.'
