न रोगैः पीड्यते कश्चिन्न ग्रहैः प्रेतयोनिभिः। शृंगिभिर्नापि रक्षोभिर्विद्युद्भिर्वनतस्करैः
No one is afflicted by diseases, planets, spirits, horned beasts, demons, lightning, or forest thieves.
न राजा कुप्यति गृहे न च मारी प्रवर्तते। न दौर्भिक्ष्यं न दौर्बल्यं पूजयित्वा विनायकम्
The king does not become angry in the house, pestilence does not arise, nor famine or weakness, for one who worships Vināyaka.
अभिप्रेतार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं पूजितो यः सुरैरपि। सर्वविघ्नछिदे तस्मै गणाधिपतये नमः
For the accomplishment of desired aims, even the gods worship him; I bow to that Lord of the Gaṇas, remover of all obstacles.
मंत्रश्चायं ॐ नमो गणपतये। नारायणप्रियैः पुष्पैरन्यैश्चापि सुगंधिभिः। मोदकैः फलमूलैश्च द्रव्यैः कालोद्भवैस्तथा
This is the mantra: 'Oṃ namo gaṇapataye.' With flowers dear to Nārāyaṇa, and other fragrant ones, with sweetmeats, fruits, roots, and offerings appropriate to the season—
दधिदुग्धैः प्रियैर्वाद्यैरपि धूपसुगंधिभिः। पूजयेद्गणपं यस्तु सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नुयात्
With curds, milk, beloved musical instruments, and fragrant incense, whoever worships Gaṇapati attains all accomplishments.
विशेषात्तस्य लिंगे तु यो ददाति वसुप्रियम्। पूजोपकरणं वस्त्रं सर्वं लक्षगुणं भवेत्
Especially, whoever offers to his emblem a beloved gift—an article for worship, or cloth—receives a hundred thousandfold reward.
देशे च भारते वर्षे वनिता पूर्वसन्निधौ। लौहित्यदक्षिणे तीरे लिंगरूपो विनायकः
In the land of Bhārata, in the presence of women, on the southern bank of the Lauhitya, Vināyaka is present in the form of a liṅga.
हरगौरीसमादेशाद्देवानां संमतेन च। स्थितो लोकप्रशांत्यर्थं सर्वविघ्नविनाशनात्
By the command of Hara and Gaurī, and with the approval of the gods, he is established for the peace of the world, as the destroyer of all obstacles.
पूजयित्वा तु तं देवं शक्तितो द्रव्यसंचयैः। विनायकत्वमाप्नोति वेदशास्त्रार्थपारगः
Having worshipped that god with whatever offerings one can, one attains the state of Vināyaka and mastery of the meaning of the Vedas and scriptures.
सकृत्प्रदक्षिणं कृत्वा दृष्ट्वा स्पृष्ट्वा तु मानवः। अक्षयं लभते स्वर्गं सदा देवैः प्रपूज्यते
Having circumambulated once, having seen and touched him, a person attains inexhaustible heaven and is always honored by the gods.
संसर्गिणां च म्लेछानां गत्यर्थं सुतपस्विनाम्। पुत्रार्थं सर्वलोकानां तत्र शंभुर्विनायकः
For the sake of the journey of those who associate with foreigners, for ascetics, and for the desire for sons among all worlds, there, Śaṃbhu became Vināyaka.
कृत्वाभिषेकं लौहित्ये स्पृशेद्यस्तु गणाधिपम्। सप्तजन्मकृतात्पापान्मुच्यते नात्र संशयः
Whoever, after performing the consecration in the Lauhitya, touches the Lord of the Gaṇas, is freed from sins committed over seven births; there is no doubt about this.
न वैधव्यं न कार्पण्यं न शोकं न तु मत्सरम्। विनायकं समासाद्य जन्मजन्मनि संलभेत्
Neither widowhood, nor poverty, nor sorrow, nor envy is obtained, having approached Vināyaka, in birth after birth.
पुनः सिद्धिः पुनर्भोग्यं पुनः कीर्तिः पुनर्बलम्। पूजयित्वा तु गणपं नरस्य नात्र संशयः
Again comes success, again enjoyment, again fame, again strength; having worshipped the Lord of the Gaṇas, for a person there is no doubt.
अस्य पूजामकृत्वा च सर्वाभीष्टं विनश्यति। तत्र देवाश्च सुप्रीता ब्रह्मविष्णुहरादयः
Without performing his worship, all desired things are destroyed; there, the gods are well pleased—Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Hara, and others.
मघोनो गणपस्याथ पूजाविरहितस्य च। अथासुरैर्महावीर्यैर्हिरण्याक्षमुखै रणे
Of Maghavan, and of the Lord of the Gaṇas, and of one who lacks worship, then by the mighty demons, headed by Hiraṇyākṣa, in battle—
मघवा तु जितो वीर्याद्धिरण्याक्षेण वै तदा। ततस्सुराश्च निर्वीर्या यावद्वर्षशतं पुरा
Maghavan was then defeated by the strength of Hiraṇyākṣa; and thus the gods became powerless for a hundred years, long ago.
दैवासुरे महायुद्धे सुराणां च पराजयः। ततो देवाधिदेवे तु शिवे देवैर्निवेदितम्
In the great war between gods and demons, the defeat of the gods occurred; then, to Śiva, the lord of the gods, the gods reported.
भगवन्नसुरैर्नो हि जितं राज्यं गता मखाः। एतस्मिन्नंतरे शंभुर्देवान्वचनमब्रवीत्
"Lord, by the demons we have been conquered, the kingdom is lost, the sacrifices are gone." In that moment, Śaṃbhu spoke to the gods.
हेरंबाय वरो दत्त उमया प्रीतया मया। पूजया ते परा सिद्धिर्देवादीनां भवत्विति
"A boon was given to Heraṃba by Umā, pleased, by me: 'By your worship, supreme success shall come to the gods and others.'"
अवजानाति यो मोहात्पुरुषस्तु महोत्सवे। न भवेत्तस्य सिद्धिश्च रणे चापि पराजयः
Whoever, out of delusion, disregards him at a great festival, for him there is no success, and defeat in battle also.
महामखेन युष्माभिः पूजा गणपतेः कृता। हेलया न कृता मोहात्तस्मात्प्राप्तः पराजयः
By you, in the great sacrifice, the worship of the Lord of the Gaṇas was performed; but not properly, out of delusion, and thus defeat was attained.
शीघ्रं गच्छत वै पुण्यां गणपस्य महात्मनः। पूजां कुरुत धर्मज्ञा जयस्तूर्णं भविष्यति
Go quickly to the holy place of the great-souled Lord of the Gaṇas; perform worship, O knowers of dharma, and victory will soon be yours.
ततो हरमुखाच्छ्रुत्वा वचः क्षेमपरं हितम्। प्रहृष्टा विबुधास्सर्वे गणपस्य पुरः स्थिताः
Then, hearing the words of Hara, which brought safety and benefit, all the gods, delighted, stood before the Lord of the Gaṇas.
देवा ऊचुः-। गणाधिप नमस्तुभ्यं सर्वदेवैकपालक। स्वर्गभोगप्रद प्रीत्या हेरंब त्वां नताः स्म ह
The gods said: "O Lord of the Gaṇas, salutations to you, guardian of all the gods; giver of heavenly enjoyment, with affection, Heraṃba, we bow to you."
जयदं सर्वयुद्धेषु सिद्धिदं सर्वकर्मसु। महामायं महाकायं हेरंब त्वां नताः स्म ह
"Giver of victory in all battles, giver of success in all actions, of great magic, of great form, Heraṃba, we bow to you."
एकदंतं महाप्राज्ञं लंबतुंडं विनायकम्। देवं महर्षिदेवानांमिंद्रस्य च नताः स्म ह
"One-tusked, greatly wise, long-snouted Vināyaka, god of the great sages and gods, and of Indra, we bow to you."
यत्ते पुरार्चनं यज्ञे न कृतं तत्क्षमस्व नः। सुराणां च गिरः श्रुत्वा गणपो वाक्यमब्रवीत्
"That worship of yours, which was not performed in the sacrifice before, forgive us for it." Hearing the words of the gods, the Lord of the Gaṇas spoke.
युष्माभिर्व्रियतां देवा वरो मत्तो हि वांच्छितः। ततः शक्रादयः सर्वे बृहस्पतिपुरोगमाः
You gods, choose a boon from me, whatever you desire.
ऊचुर्गणपतिं देवा जयोस्माकं भवत्विति। देवानां वचनं श्रुत्वा गणेशो वाक्यमब्रवीत्
Then all the gods, led by Brihaspati and Indra, said to Ganesha: 'Let victory be ours.'
