Therefore, serve the guru, the Brahmin, the gods, and holy places, O Ṣaṇmukha; whoever departs with Tulasī on his topknot—
Freed from the mass of evil deeds, he attains heaven without suffering, more than by Rājasūya and other sacrifices, vows, and various restraints.
The state attained by the steadfast through service to Tulasī is gained; by worshipping Hari with even a single Tulasī leaf—
He attains the status of a devotee of Viṣṇu—what need is there for other extensive scriptures? One should not drink the milk of Tulasī's mother, even in crores.
He by whom Keśava is worshipped with tender shoots and leaves, that mortal should be regarded as a hundred or even a thousand men.
He who worships Hari daily with tender Tulasī leaves—O dear one, I have described to you the chief virtues of Tulasī.
We are unable to fully express all the virtues, even over a long period; but whoever listens daily to this account, which is a storehouse of merit—
—is freed from sins committed in previous births and from the bondage of birth; merely by reciting it once, one attains the fruit of the Vahnistoma sacrifice.
He will never suffer from diseases, nor will his children be foolish at any time; he always attains victory and never meets defeat.
In the house where this text is kept, prosperity flourishes; there is neither illness nor ghosts, nor sorrow nor disrespect.
They do not remain even for a moment where this writing exists.
Chapter Sixty-One. The twice-born said: We have heard from you the auspicious glory of the tulasi flower, beloved of Hari; we wish to hear its sacred hymn, which you have composed.
Vyasa said: Long ago, O twice-born, I proclaimed this in the Skanda Purana; I shall now relate the ancient account again for the sake of liberation.
All the disciples of the sage Shatananda, steadfast in their vows, bowed to their teacher and asked him for what is auspicious and beneficial.
O best of knowers of Brahman, we wish to hear from you the tulasi hymn which was formerly heard from the mouth of Brahma.
Shatananda said: By uttering her name, the destroyer of demon pride is pleased; sins are dissolved and merit becomes inexhaustible.
How is tulasi worshipped and revered by people? Merely by seeing her, the gift equals that of ten million cows.
Blessed are those people in whose homes tulasi is found in this age; for the sake of the salagrama stone, tulasi is daily placed upon the earth.
Blessed are those hands that search for tulasi; and those who plant her here on earth for the sake of Kesava in this age.
What can Yama do, even with his attendants, to one who has worshipped the Lord with a tulasi leaf, which removes suffering?
Can the fruits of pilgrimage and other journeys be attained by bathing, giving, meditating, eating, and worshipping Kesava?
Tulasi burns away sin in this age through praise and planting; you are born of nectar, always dear to Kesava.
For the sake of Kesava, I gather you, O beautiful one, grantor of boons; I worship Hari daily with offerings from your body.
Do thus, O pure-limbed one, destroyer of impurity in this age; whoever, having gathered tulasi leaves, performs worship with this mantra—
The worship of Vāsudeva yields a hundred thousand times greater result; O Lady of the gods, the foremost of the gods sing of your power.
The sages, perfected beings, Gandharvas, and the serpent kings in the netherworld—even they do not know your power, O goddess, except for Keśava.
Even in hundreds of millions of aeons, the measure of your virtues—arisen from Kṛṣṇa's joy during the churning of the Milk Ocean—cannot be determined.
Long ago, Viṣṇu bore Tulasī on his noble head; O goddess, you have attained all the limbs of Viṣṇu.
Purity has been attained by you; I bow to you, Tulasī. With leaves born from your body, I worship Hari as is proper.
In the same way, grant me freedom from obstacles, so that I may attain the highest state; you were planted on the bank of the Gomati and protected by Kṛṣṇa himself.
