There is no doubt that Gaṇeśa dwells in the best of houses like Hara; by bearing the ten-faced form, serpents are destroyed.
In the eleventh face, O child, the eleven Rudras are remembered; one should always bear it on the crest—hear the merit of this.
The fruit of a thousand horse sacrifices, a hundred million sacrifices, and the proper gift of a hundred thousand cows—
That fruit is quickly obtained by bearing the eleven-faced form; one becomes like Hara in the world and is not born again.
Whoever wears a twelve-faced Rudraksha at the region of the throat is always pleasing to the Sun, who is established in the twelve faces.
The fruit obtained by performing a cow sacrifice or a human sacrifice is quickly attained by this, and it also wards off thunderbolts.
There is no fear from fire, nor does disease arise; one enjoys gain of wealth and happiness, and, being lordly, never poverty.
Having killed elephants, horses, men, cats, mice, rabbits, and likewise fanged beasts and jackals, even after such slaying—
—one is freed, there is no doubt, by wearing the twelve-faced at the mouth; if one obtains a thirteen-faced Rudraksha—
He is to be known as most auspicious, bestower of all desired fruits; it is the very nectar of elixirs, and the philosopher's stone as well.
All attainments come to him who is fortunate, O six-faced one, even if he kills mother, father, sister, brother, or teachers.
He is freed from all sins by wearing the thirteen-faced; he attains imperishable heaven, just as the god Maheshvara.
O child, if one wears a fourteen-faced Rudraksha always on the head or arms, it is the very embodiment of Shiva's power.
What need is there to say much, or to describe it again and again? He is always worshipped by the gods, and attains the weight of merit.
Kartikeya said: O Lord, I wish to hear, for each face, the proper method of placement and by which mantra, and how the wearing is to be done—please tell me.
Ishvara said: Listen, O six-faced one, to the truth of the proper method for each face; even without uttering mantras, these qualities are proclaimed.
But if a man wears it on earth, accompanied by mantra, its qualities and greatness cannot be described.
Now the mantras are given: 'Om Rudra' for the one-faced, 'Om Kham' for the two-faced, 'Om Vum' for the three-faced, 'Om Hrim' for the four-faced, 'Om Hram' for the five-faced, 'Om Hrum' for the six-faced, 'Om Hrah' for the seven-faced, 'Om Kam' for the eight-faced, 'Om Jum' for the nine-faced, 'Om Ksham' for the ten-faced, 'Om Shrim' for the eleven-faced, 'Om Hrim' for the twelve-faced, 'Om Kshaum' for the thirteen-faced, 'Om Nram' for the fourteen-faced. Thus, the mantras are to be placed in order. Whoever, having taken the garland, goes with it on the head or chest, attains the fruit of an Ashvamedha at every step, and not otherwise.
By wearing all the faces, one becomes equal to me; therefore, with all effort, O son, wear the Rudraksha.
Whoever, having worn the Rudraksha, dies on earth, he goes to my delightful city, worshipped by all the gods.
Once, O child, in the desert land, a merchant's son, while traveling for trade, was tormented by ghosts at a tree.
Then, possessed by ghosts, the woman danced, and a twice-born saw her intently: 'Who are you, dancing, miserable, clothed in worn garments?'
Then she said to the twice-born: 'I have heard from the divine messengers that this noble man is about to be struck by the thunderbolt.'
'It is certain, O Brahmin, that my husband will die; meanwhile, from the heavens, a thunderbolt fell upon his head.'
It fell and landed on the half-piece of a rudraksha on the ground; then, O my son, a celestial chariot swiftly descended from my city.
Mounting it, that illustrious one now remains there for a long time; having attained a portion of me, he becomes wealthy, O dear one.
Thus, O son, one who dies with a piece of rudraksha attains a good destination; we are unable to describe the fruit for a person who bears it with knowledge.
Whether he is a devotee of Shiva, Shakti, Ganesha, or Surya, whoever dies wearing even a single rudraksha bead or garland—
Whoever recites, causes to be recited, makes others hear, or listens to this, is freed from all sins and gradually attains happiness in heaven.
Chapter Sixty-Six. Skanda said: I ask also about the purity of the fruit of another tree; for the welfare of all beings, tell us, O Lord of the world.
