Therefore, I always dwell in his house for its protection; likewise, I always desire the fruit of the dhātrī tree.
Therefore, I have said that among others, the Vaiṣṇava is truly Vaiṣṇava; those who were my devotees before, O brāhmaṇa, gods who followed my path.
What was not done by them was accomplished by him alone; therefore, I have made the name 'Vaiṣṇava's all' delightful.
I dwell in his house and do not leave even for a moment; therefore, O twice-born, I am easily accessible to those who are devoted to me in this way.
Today I give them our own path for their own sake; between us, O brāhmaṇa, there is equal nobility, sharing food and dreams alike.
See, O best of gods, union and friendship as well; then all the dumb and others welcomed Hari, the Lord.
The virtuous, along with their wives and retinues, wished to go to heaven; and those who were near their houses, even their household lizards.
Various insects and others followed them; Vyāsa said: Meanwhile, the gods, Siddhas, and great sages...
They showered flowers, resounding with cries of 'Well done, well done!'; divine drums sounded in the heavens and in the forests.
Mounting their own chariots, they went to the city of Hari's path; beholding that wonder, the brahmin spoke to Janardana.
O Lord of the gods, instruct me, O Madhusudana. The Blessed Lord said: Go, my child, to your father and mother, whose minds are afflicted with sorrow.
By earnestly worshipping them, you will soon reach my abode; the gods are not equal to father and mother, nor do they remain in the abode of the gods.
By whom this body, always subject to reproach, was cared for in childhood, though full of faults and ignorance, nourished and raised—
There is nothing in the three worlds, with all their moving and unmoving beings, equal to those two; therefore, all the hosts of gods, filled with joy by those five,
Praising Mādhava, went to Hari's abode, the delightful city adorned by Viśvakarman,
Rich in jewels, filled with desired objects, endowed with wish-fulfilling trees and the like, with houses of burnished gold, adorned with all kinds of gems,
With stairways of diamond and beryl, joined with rivers of golden water, filled with music and song, surrounded on all sides by fortresses,
Abundant with the calls of cuckoos, attended by accomplished beings and celestial musicians, filled with virtuous people rich in beauty, the city seemed to move through the sky.
Then all the Acyutas stood far above all the worlds; the brahmin, having gone to his parents, worshipped them with great effort.
In a short time, with his family, he went to Hari; this sacred tale of the five I have recited to you.
Whoever recites or hears this will never meet with misfortune here; he is never tainted by sins such as the killing of a brahmin.
The fruit a man obtains by giving away ten million cows, that same fruit he attains by immersing himself in the tale of the five.
The merit gained by bathing daily at Puṣkara or always in the Bhāgīrathī, that is attained even by hearing this once.
It quickly destroys evil dreams and grants health; it brings the favor of Lakṣmī and well-being, therefore it is indeed to be heard.
Thus, in the glorious Padma Purāṇa, in the first section on creation, the fifty-sixth chapter named 'The Tale of the Five' is concluded.
Chapter fifty-seven. The brahmins said: Glory, virtue, and all the highest things in the worlds—tell us, O best of sages, if you favor us.
Vyāsa said: He in whose pond, in the forest, cows are satisfied for even a month, or who purifies it within seven days, is worshipped by all the gods.
Especially, a pond that is purified through sacrificial acts—listen to the full result of giving water here, which equals all other offerings.
Year after year, and age after age, this is prescribed: by giving water, the giver attains heaven and becomes a benefactor of all on earth.
For as many thousands of years as there are drops formed when rain falls into the pond, so long does a person enjoy heaven.
