In the same way, in the house of the one who does not betray friends, and in the temple of the Vaishnava, by your grace, O Brahmin, you are worthy to speak the truth to me.
The Blessed Lord said: The mute is always devoted to his parents; that wife is virtuous; Tuladhara speaks the truth and is impartial to all people.
He who is free from greed, desire, and betrayal, and is devoted to me, is known as a Vaishnava; pleased by these virtues, I dwell joyfully in their abode.
Together with Bharati and Kamala, O best of Brahmins—The Brahmin said: Because of association with great sinners, men become extremely sinful.
Thus speak those who know dharma, always in the texts of law; in the Puranas, Agamas, and Vedas—how do you dwell in the house?
The Blessed Lord said: Among all the virtuous, the mute is the doer in the three worlds; even a Chandala who is steadfast in conduct, the gods know him as a Brahmin.
There is no one in the worlds equal to the mute in meritorious deeds; always devoted to his parents, by him the three worlds are conquered.
By their devotion, I am pleased, together with all the hosts of gods; I dwell in the form of a Brahmin within the inner space of his house.
Likewise, in the house of the devoted wife, in the dwelling of Tuladhara, in the home of the one who does not betray, and in the abode of the Vaishnava.
I always dwell there, O knower of dharma, I do not abandon it even for a moment; thus, those who are not doers of evil see me constantly.
Because of your merit, you have seen me, by reason of my grace; the Chandala, pure and devoted to his parents, has attained divinity.
Therefore, with affection, I dwell with him in his house; again and again, I engage in conversation, O delight of the twice-born.
In his mind, I always abide, free from any harmful thought; he knows your conduct, and so do the devoted wife and others.
I shall tell you their conduct, listen to it in order; by hearing this, a mortal is completely freed from the bondage of birth.
There is no greater holy place among the gods than father and mother; he who worships his parents is truly the supreme person.
The command of father and mother, and the command of the guru, have equal fruit; by worship, one attains sovereignty in heaven, but by neglect, one goes to Raurava.
Though he dwells in our heart, I too reside in his heart; there is no separation between us, here or beyond, and none equals me.
In front of me, within my beautiful city, together with all his relatives, he shall enjoy inexhaustible pleasures, and in the end, he merges into me.
Therefore, though mute, he knows the news of all that arises in the three worlds, O tiger among men; so why are you astonished?
The twice-born said: Out of delusion or ignorance, one may fail to worship the father; knowing this, what should be done, O Lord of the world, regarding right and wrong?
The Blessed Lord said: Whoever has performed devotion to the parents for a day, a month, a fortnight, half a fortnight, or a year, he attains my pure abode.
If one causes distress to the mind, he must certainly go to hell; whether the worship of the parents was done or not, it is supreme from ancient times.
By performing the release of a bull, a man obtains the fruit of devotion to the ancestors; food, clothing, and dairy, both with and without meat, are included.
Everything given to relatives is said to yield a hundred thousand times its value; the śrāddha performed with all one's possessions by a wise son.
He attains remembrance of his birth and obtains the fruit of devotion to the ancestors; among sacrifices, śrāddha is supreme, and none greater exists in the three worlds.
Whatever is given here, even a little, is enjoyed as inexhaustible; elsewhere, know that a ten-thousandfold is for relatives, a hundred thousand is declared.
For the piṇḍa offering, a ten-millionfold is declared; for a twice-born, it is said to be infinite; in the waters of the Ganges, at Gayā, Prayāga, and Puṣkara.
At Vārāṇasī, at Siddhakuṇḍa, at the confluence of the Ganges and the ocean, whoever gives a rice-ball there surely attains liberation.
The ancestors obtain inexhaustible heaven and the fruit of birth; especially, whoever gives sesame-water in the Bhāgīrathī.
He attains the path of liberation, and what then of the piṇḍa offering? On riverbanks, a thousandfold is desired; in the river itself, ten thousandfold is esteemed.
