Seeing her son together with the nectar, her heart blossomed; she called for the nectar, gave it, and then departed.
All beings—grass, wood, animals, and reptiles—saw with amazement, as did the gods and great sages at that time.
Having freed his mother, Garuda attained great joy; meanwhile, Indra suddenly seized the nectar.
Kadru, unnoticed by her, placed poison there; her heart delighted, she called her sons in excitement.
Joyful, she put the poison, which resembled nectar, into their mouths; the mother addressed her sons: In your lineage always—
These drops remain in your mouths, O gods, contented; then the great sages, gods, siddhas, gandharvas, and humans—
They said: Let it be so in our lineage, O mother, by your grace; the gods, siddhas, and sages were released by the nāgas.
The gods, delighted, returned to their own abodes; the nāgas stood joyful; meanwhile, Garuda forcibly devoured the nāgas.
The rest fled in all directions—on mountains, in forests, in oceans, in the underworld, in caves, and in tree hollows.
The serpents, content, stayed in secluded thickets; the serpents are always destined to be his food by decree.
Having eaten the nāgas, he then spoke with his parents; after honoring the gods, he went to the imperishable Hari.
Whoever recites or hears the auspicious story of Suparna is freed from all sins and is honored in the world of the gods.
Brahma said: Thereafter, O best of sages, a twice-born who had fallen into the state of a cāṇḍāla, lamenting many sorrows, approached the sage Kaśyapa.
Having gone, he said: O foremost sage, speak words beneficial to us; so that I may be freed from sin, O best of sages, do thus.
The great and radiant one, with a slight smile, spoke to him from all sides. Kaśyapa said: By merely seeing the mlecchas, you have yourself become pacified.
Through recitation and offerings of the Gāyatrī, and by vows such as the Cāndrāyaṇa, remember always the feet of Hari, observing the sacred day of Hari.
Day and night meditate on Hari, bow to that Lord; by bathing at holy places and with mantra, you will reach the end of impurity.
Then, by the destruction of sin, you will attain the state of a brāhmaṇa; by superior vows, O twice-born, you will destroy impurity and gain liberation.
Hearing the sage's words, he then became fulfilled; performing various meritorious acts, he again attained brahmanhood.
Then, after performing intense austerity, he reached the world of the gods for a long time; all the sin of a person of good conduct diminishes day by day.
But the merit of one of bad conduct diminishes like collyrium; a fallen brāhmaṇa through misconduct, by good conduct attains heaven.
Therefore, when life remains in the throat, the twice-born should practice good conduct; always perform good conduct by deed, mind, and body.
By the instruction of Kaśyapa, that twice-born became disciplined; practicing good conduct again, having performed austerity, he went to heaven.
A brāhmaṇa who is without good conduct is condemned in the heavenly worlds; but having practiced good conduct again, he is honored among the gods.
Nārada said: The worlds attain their goal by honoring the best of the twice-born; what fate befalls one, O Lord, who harms the brāhmaṇas?
Brahmā said: Whoever does not worship, to the best of his ability and with devotion, the brāhmaṇas whose bodies are tormented by hunger, that man goes to hell.
He who, with harsh words, drives them away in anger, making them cry, goes to the terrible hell called Mahāraurava, full of suffering.
Withdrawing from there, he is born among insects and the lowest castes; then he becomes diseased, poor, and afflicted by hunger.
Therefore, one should not despise a brāhmaṇa who comes to the house out of hunger; whoever says, 'I will not give,' to the gods, fire, or brāhmaṇas—
Having passed through a hundred animal births, he attains the state of a caṇḍāla; whoever strikes a brāhmaṇa, a cow, parents, or teacher with his foot—
