Seeing that unprecedented form, resembling a golden mountain, all the dānavas and Hiraṇyakaśipu himself were astonished—
Prahlāda said: O great king, mighty-armed, origin of the daityas, neither have I heard nor seen this Nārasiṃha form—
Unmanifest, supreme, divine—what is this form that has appeared? It seems to my mind to be fierce, the destroyer of daityas—
Within his body dwell the gods, the oceans, and rivers; Himavat, Pāriyātra, and other family mountains—
The moon with its stars, the sun with its rays, Kubera, Varuṇa, Yama, Śakra, and the lord of Śacī—
The Maruts, divine Gandharvas, Ṛṣis rich in austerity, Nāgas, Yakṣas, Piśācas, and Rākṣasas of terrible might—
Brahmā, the gods, and Paśupati wander upon his forehead; all immovable and movable beings likewise—
And you, together with us and all the hosts of daityas, surrounded by hundreds of aerial chariots, all are present in your assembly—
O King, the entire three worlds and the eternal law of the realms are seen in this Narasiṃha; likewise, this whole universe is manifest here.
Here are Prajāpati, the great-souled Manu, the planets, the yogas, the earth, and the sky; the time of calamity, steadfastness, intelligence, delight, truth, austerity, and self-restraint.
Sanatkumāra, of great power, all the Viśve Devas, all the sages, anger, desire, joy, pride, delusion, and all the ancestors are present here.
Hearing the words of Prahlāda, Hiraṇyakaśipu, the lord, spoke to all the Dānavas and their leaders.
Let this king of beasts be seized, who has assumed an unprecedented form; or, if there is any doubt, let this forest-dweller be slain.
All those hosts of Dānavas, delighted, surrounded the mighty king of beasts and began to terrify him with their strength.
Then Narasiṃha, of great power, let out a lion's roar and shattered the entire assembly, his mouth wide open like Death.
As the assembly was being destroyed, Hiraṇyakaśipu himself, his eyes agitated with wrath, hurled weapons at the lion.
Then, among all weapons, he used the most formidable: the dreadful Daṇḍa weapon, the terrifying Kālacakra, and another, the Viṣṇu discus.
He used the exceedingly fierce Paitāmaha weapon, created for the three worlds, the wondrous thunderbolt, and both the dry and wet forms of the thunderbolt.
He used the fierce Raudra weapon, the formidable spear, the Kaṃkāla, the mace, the Brahmaśiras weapon, and the Brāhma weapon as well.
He used the Nārāyaṇa weapon, the Indra weapon, the fire weapon, the icy weapon, the wind weapon, the churning weapon, the skull weapon, and the servant weapon.
He used the repelling weapon, the Krauṃca weapon, the bewildering weapon, the drying weapon, and those for torment and lamentation.
He used the shaking weapon, the slaying weapon, the great restraining weapon, the irresistible Kālāmudgara, and the powerful heating weapon.
He used the destructive weapon, the bewildering weapon, the wondrous illusion weapon, the Gandharva weapon, the beloved Asiratna, and the Nandaka.
He used the sleep-inducing weapon, the maddening weapon, the supreme Varuṇa weapon, and the Pāśupata weapon, whose course cannot be checked.
Hiraṇyakaśipu then released these divine weapons at Narasiṃha, blazing like offerings into fire.
With flaming weapons, the foremost Asura surrounded the lion, as the sun envelops the Himalayas with its rays in the heat of summer.
That ocean of the Daityas’ army, stirred up by the wind of their wrath, in a moment flooded everything like the sea does Mount Mainaka.
With spears, nooses, swords, maces, pestles, thunderbolts, lightning bolts, and great trees with many branches,
With mallets, iron clubs, stone mortars and mountains, blazing machines for hurling a hundred missiles, and also with very terrible staffs,
Those Dānavas, their hands grasping nooses, their speed equal to Mahendra and thunderbolts, stood with arms and bodies raised all around, like young elephants with their heads lifted.
