All gathered and worshipped Vaikuṇṭha, exclaiming, 'Well done! Well done!' But the other Daityas, who had witnessed the valor in battle—
All of them, their arms entangled, could not move on the battlefield; some seized others by the hair, some pressed at their throats.
He cut off the face of one, seized another in the midst; scorched by mace and discus, their strength and life departed.
Their bodies, fallen from the sky, crashed to the earth; when all those Daityas were slain, the Supreme Person—
Having accomplished the beloved task of Indra, holding his completed weapon, Gadā, in that fierce battle of Tāraka—
Then Brahmā, the grandsire of the worlds, swiftly came to that place, together with all the Brahmarṣis and the hosts of Gandharvas and Apsarases.
The god Brahmā, worshipping Hari, the god of gods, spoke these words: 'O god, a great deed has been accomplished; the thorn of the gods has been removed.'
'By the destruction of the Daityas, we are all satisfied; this Kālanemi, the great Asura, whom you have slain, O Viṣṇu—'
'Except for you, no one could have been his vanquisher in this world; he insulted the gods and all the worlds, both moving and unmoving.'
'Having slaughtered the seers, he even challenged me; therefore, by this act of yours, I am well pleased.'
'Now that this Kālanemi, the time-appointed foe, has been slain, come, may good fortune be yours; let us go to the highest heaven.'
'The Brahmarṣis who are present there await you, having gone to the assembly; and I, the bestower of boons, shall grant you a boon, O best of those who grant boons.'
'With the gods restored to their own places, you are their boon-giver; let this threefold world, now flourishing and freed from thorns, be delivered.'
'In this very battle, O Viṣṇu, for the great-souled Indra—' Thus addressed by the blessed Brahmā, Hari, the imperishable, replied.
Viṣṇu spoke to all the gods, headed by Śakra, with auspicious words: 'Let all the assembled deities listen.'
With Suparṇa and others, placing Purandara at the forefront, we all together slew Kālanemi and his allies in battle.
The Dānavas, endowed with great valor, surpassed even Śakra; in this vast conflict, only two emerged.
Virocana, the Daitya, and Svarbhānu, of immense strength, went to their own quarters; Śakra and Varuṇa likewise to theirs.
Yama shall guard the southern direction, and the lord of wealth the northern; the Moon, together with the Ṛkṣas, shall always pursue union.
The Sun, accompanied by the seasons, shall go forth with the Ayanas; the offerings of clarified butter shall be commenced, honored by the assembly.
Let the fires be invoked by the Brāhmaṇas through actions prescribed by the Vedas; the gods with oblations, and the great sages with recitation.
Let the ancestors be satisfied by śrāddha, each according to their pleasure; let Vāyu move along his path, and Pāvaka shine in threefold form.
Let the three classes purify the three worlds with their own offspring and qualities; let the sacrifices be performed by the twice-born who are fit for initiation.
Let the gifts be presented separately by those engaged in sacrifice; let the Sun nourish the cows, Soma the juices, and Vāyu the breaths in living beings.
Let these, offering satisfaction with their own actions related to Soma, proceed in proper order, those born of Mahendra and Malaya.
Let all the mothers of the three worlds go to the ocean, the rivers; let fear be abandoned by the Daityas, and let the gods attain peace.
May welfare be yours; I shall go to the eternal realm of Brahma—whether in my own house, in heaven, or especially in battle.
Never trust them; the Dānavas are always petty. They strike at weaknesses and have no firm stability.
Let your minds be gentle, true to your own natures. Having spoken thus to the hosts of gods, Viṣṇu, of unfailing valor,
Departed with Brahmā to the realm of Brahma, the illustrious one, having generated great joy among the gods, the blessed Lord.
