चतुश्चक्रं सुविपुलं सुकल्पितमहायुधम्। किंकिणीजालनिर्घोषं द्वीपिचर्मपरिष्कृतम्॥१.४०.

अध्यतिष्ठद्रणाकांक्षी मेरुं दीप्तमिवांशुमान्। तारस्तु क्रोशविस्तारमायामे च तथाविधम्॥१.४०.

खड्गशैलैश्च शैलैश्च परिघैश्चोद्यतायुधैः। युक्तं बलाहकगणैः सर्वतः संवृतं नभः॥१.४०.
With swords, rocks, and iron bars, weapons raised, the sky was covered on all sides by masses of clouds yoked together.
एवं तद्दानवं सैन्यं सर्वसत्वमदोत्कटम्। देवताभिमुखं तस्थौ मेघानीकमिवोदितम्॥१.४०.
Thus, that army of the Dānavas, fierce with the pride of all beings, stood facing the gods like a mass of clouds arisen.
रेजे च तद्दैत्यसहस्रगाढं वाय्वग्निशैलांबुदतोयकल्पम्। बलं बलौघाकुलमभ्युदीर्णं युयुत्सयोन्मत्तमिवा बभासे॥१.४०.
And that host of Daityas, dense with thousands, shone forth, resembling wind, fire, mountains, clouds, and waters—an army surging with strength, crowded with forces, appearing as if maddened for battle.
