The Blessed Lord said: So be it for you both; this will happen at the coming of Kali. You shall become so, without doubt; I speak this truth to you.
Then, having granted a boon to the two great asuras, the eternal upholder of the universe, the best of gods, crushed those two, resembling collyrium in color, manifestations of rajas and tamas, on his thighs—the lord of immortals.
Then Brahma, best among knowers of Brahman, stood upon that lotus, with arms raised, of great brilliance, engaged in fierce austerity.
Blazing as if with his own rays, dispelling darkness, that righteous-souled one spoke, shining like the thousand-rayed sun with his beams.
Then, assuming another form, the imperishable Lord Nārāyaṇa, radiant with great splendor, arrived there as the illustrious master of yoga.
And Kapila, the wise teacher of Sāṃkhya and foremost among the sons of Brahmā, both great souls, honored and intent, were also present there.
Those two, possessing vast energy, knowing the distinctions of the higher and lower, and honored by the great sages, approached and addressed Brahmā there.
Brahmā, the lord revered throughout the three worlds, vast and established in the universe, the chief of all beings, was thus addressed by them.
Hearing their words and understanding their supreme intentions, he created these three worlds, as is declared in the Veda of Brahmā.
He produced one son, born from himself, and the earth; and before that, another was born from his mind.
As soon as he was born, the mind-born son spoke to Brahmā: 'Tell me, Lord, what assistance shall I render you?'
Brahmā said: 'Since you are called Kapila, and are indeed Nārāyaṇa, do what you declare, O greatly wise one.'
Thus addressed by Brahmā, he rose and said, 'I am ready to serve you both; what shall I do?' with joined palms.
The Blessed Lord said: 'That which is true, imperishable Brahman, consisting of eighteen forms—remember that supreme, true, immortal state.'
Hearing these words, he went to the northern direction; and arriving there, Brahmā attained knowledge with the eye of wisdom.
Then Brahmā, the Lord, mentally conceived and created the second world, called Bhuvar, with great resolve.
Then that one also spoke: 'What shall I do, Grandfather?'—having approached Brahmā, who was regarded as equal to the Grandfather.
Having experienced the nectar of Brahman, he attained the supreme state and came to the side of those two.
When he too departed, the Lord created a third, skilled in the pursuit of liberation, shining like gold.
He also, following that dharma, reached the same state as those two; thus, these three sons attained the state of the great soul Śambhu.
Taking those sons, Nārāyaṇa, the Blessed Lord, and Kapila, the lord of ascetics, attained the supreme state.
The time that they attained, Brahmā too entered; and, undertaking even more intense austerity, he reached the supreme state.
And Brahmā, the sole lord, was not able, even through austerity, so from half his own body he produced a wife, auspicious in nature.
The Grandfather then created sons resembling himself, the lords of all beings, from whom the worlds have arisen.
First, the great-souled one created Dharma, lord of all, born of austerity, pervading everywhere, and pure.
He created Dakṣa, Marīci, Atri, Pulastya, Pulaha, Kratu, Vasiṣṭha, Gautama, Bhṛgu, and the sage Aṅgiras.
These great sages are to be known as exceedingly wondrous in their own deeds; and the lineages of the great seers began with thirteen qualities.
Aditi, Diti, Danu, Kāla, Anāyu, Siṃhikā, Khasā, Prācī, Krodhā, Surasā, Vinatā, and Kadrū as well.
These twelve daughters, O King, are the offspring of Dakṣa; and the twenty-seven constellations, too, are attributed to the Moon.
From Marīci was born Kaśyapa, created through austerity; to him Dakṣa gave those twelve daughters, and he accepted them.
