On the first day, fourteen yojanas were built; on the second day, thirty-six; and on the third, fifty.
Here is Laṅkā, visible, with golden ramparts and gateways; a great siege was laid here by the best of the monkeys.
Here, on the fourteenth day of the bright half of Caitra, a great battle took place; there, in forty-eight days, Rāvaṇa was slain.
Here, Prahasta, the foremost of Rākṣasas, was slain by Nīla; and here too, Dhūmrākṣa was struck down by Hanumān.
Mahodara and Atikāya were slain here by the great-souled Sugrīva; and here, Kumbhakarṇa and Indrajit were killed by Lakṣmaṇa.
And here, I myself slew Daśagrīva, the foremost of Rākṣasas; here, Brahmā, the grandsire of the worlds, came to speak.
Here, the god Śūlapāṇi, the bull-bannered one, came with Pārvatī; and the hosts of gods led by Mahendra, with Gandharvas and Kinnaras.
My father, the great king from Triviṣṭapa, also arrived here, surrounded by hosts of Apsarases and groups of Vidyādharas.
In the presence of all of them, Sītā, desiring purity, was told: 'Having entered the fire, O Sītā, you have attained purity.'
Seen and taken by the gods and the lords of Laṅkā, by the command of my father, then I was told by the king: 'Go to Ayodhyā, my son.'
O Rāghava, for me, heaven holds no value if you are absent; you have rescued me, my son, and I have attained the world of Indra through you.
The king then spoke to Lakṣmaṇa: 'My son, you have gained great merit; you will attain the highest divine worlds, equal to your brother.'
The king, calling Sītā, spoke these words: 'O virtuous lady, you must not harbor anger toward your husband.'
O auspicious-eyed one, your husband's fame will surely be supreme; as Rāma spoke thus, he remained seated in the Puṣpaka chariot.
Then those foremost among the Rākṣasas quickly went to Vibhīṣaṇa and said: 'Rāma, along with Sugrīva, has arrived,' thus informing him.
Hearing of Rāma's arrival, Vibhīṣaṇa honored those spies with all desired riches and treasures.
Having adorned the city, he went out with his ministers; seeing Rāma seated in the aerial car, like the sun on Mount Meru.
With an eight-limbed prostration, he bowed to Rāghava and said: 'Today my birth is fulfilled, all my desires are attained.'
Because I have seen the divine feet, revered by the world and beyond reproach, I am worthy of praise, O Lord, even among the gods led by Indra.
I consider myself greater than the lord of the gods, Purandara, as I dwell in Rāvaṇa's radiant house, adorned with all jewels.
When Kakutstha was seated, Vibhīṣaṇa offered arghya and, with joined palms, spoke to Sugrīva and also to Bharata.
For Rāma, who has come here, there is nothing I can give; this Laṅkā, by Rāma, who destroyed the thorn of the three worlds—
Having slain the wicked one, the city was formerly given to me; this city, these wives, these sons, and I myself—
All this I have given; may it all be inexhaustible for you. Then all the citizens and people dwelling in Laṅkā—
Came, filled with curiosity, to see Rāghava; they said to Vibhīṣaṇa, 'Show us Rāma, O lord.'
Vibhīṣaṇa told the great-souled Rāghava about them; at Rāma's command, Bharata received all their gifts.
The king of the monkeys took the heaps of wealth and jewels; thus Rāma stayed there in the abode of the Rākṣasas for three days.
When the fourth day arrived and Rāma was seated in the assembly, Kekasī spoke to her son: 'My child, I wish to see Rāma.'
When that is seen, great merit is obtained by the best of sages; this is Viṣṇu, the greatly fortunate one, the eternal Lord of four forms.
Sītā is Lakṣmī, O greatly fortunate one; she was not recognized by your elder brother; your father had previously declared this at the gathering of the gods.
