In the north, the goddess Gāyatrī, marked by the lotus; the Ṛgveda should be placed in the east, and the Yajurveda in the south.
In the west, the Sāmaveda, and in the north, the Atharvaveda; the Itihāsas, Purāṇas, Chandas, and Jyotiṣa as well.
Other Dharmaśāstras should be placed in the directions beginning with Indra; on the eastern petal, Bala should be worshipped, and Pradyumna on the southern petal.
In the west, Aniruddha, and in the north, Vāsudeva; Vāmadeva in the east, and Sadyojāta in the south.
Īśāna should be established in the west, and Tatpuruṣa in the north; Aghora should be worshipped everywhere—this is the worship in the maṇḍala.
In the east, Bhāskara should be worshipped, in the south, Divākara; in the west, Prabhākara, and in the north, the lord of the planets.
Thus, having worshipped Brahmā, the Supreme Lord, according to the prescribed method, one should place eight pots in the directions of the maṇḍala as prescribed.
A Brāhmaṇa water-pot should be placed in the center as the ninth; with the pot of Brahmā, one should bathe the one who desires liberation.
For one desiring prosperity, O king, he should be bathed with the Vaiṣṇava pot; for one seeking sovereignty, he should be bathed with the Indra pot.
For one wishing for the power of wealth, he should be bathed with water from the Agneya pot; for the rite of conquering death, a man should be bathed with the Yama pot.
For the destruction of evil, the Nairṛta rite is prescribed; for the quick removal of sin, a man should be bathed with the Varuṇa pot.
For one desiring bodily health, he should be consecrated with the Vāyu pot; for one wishing for abundance of wealth, the Kubera rite is prescribed.
For one seeking knowledge, the Rudra pot is used; these are the guardian-of-the-worlds pots. By bathing with each one, a man becomes free from all faults.
He becomes like Brahmā, or immediately like a king; or, in all directions, he should worship the guardians of the worlds in their respective order.
He should worship them by their own names, with pots as prescribed; thus, having worshipped the gods, the guardians of the worlds, with a clear mind,
Afterwards, he should bring in the tested disciples, their eyes bound; having purified them with Agni or fanned them with Vāyu,
Having refreshed them with Soma, he should then instruct them in the vows; he should not revile the Brāhmaṇas, the gods, Viṣṇu, or Brahmā.
Nor Indra, Āditya, Agni, the guardians of the worlds, or the planets; nor the guru, Brāhmaṇa, or the chief of sages previously initiated.
Thus, having instructed them in the vows, he should then perform the homa; 'Oṃ, obeisance to the blessed Brahman, of all forms, huṃ phaṭ svāhā.'
With the sixteen-syllabled mantra, he should offer oblations into the blazing fire; all the rites beginning with garbhādhāna, he should offer the oblations.
With the three vyāhṛtis, in the presence of the god of gods, at the end of the homa, the initiate should then give the guru his fee.
He should give to the guru, O king, elephants, horses, vehicles, carts, gold, grain, and the like; the wise should give according to their means.
Others should give a pair, with gold, to that guru; thus, when this is done, great merit is produced.
That merit cannot be described, not even in a hundred years; and if, having been initiated, one listens to the Padma Purāṇa,
By that, the Vedas, the Purāṇas, and all the mantras with their collections are as if recited at Puṣkara, at the holy place, at Prayāga, and at the ocean of the Sindhu.
At Devahrada, Kurukṣetra, and especially at Vārāṇasī; whatever fruit comes from recitation at an eclipse or solstice, that is obtained.
Seeing Brahma, the Grandfather, seated on the lotus, one attains a hundredfold fruit and, if he desires, obtains various wishes.
He who, having been initiated, performs the prescribed worship and listens— even the gods, after performing austerities, meditate and say:
"When will we be born in the land of Bharata, O king? When will we be initiated and hear the Padma Purana?"
"When will we, having established the sixteenfold Padma in our bodies, go to that supreme place from which there is no return?"
