अचिरा वृष्टिदा ज्ञेया ऋततन्त्रा ऋतात्मिका
She is swift, giver of rain, to be known, of the order of truth, and whose essence is truth.
द्विपदा या चतुष्पदा त्रिपदा या च षट्पदा
She is two-footed, four-footed, three-footed, and six-footed.
अष्टोत्तरशतं नाम्नां सावित्र्या यः पठेन्नरः
Whoever recites these one hundred and eight names of Sāvitrī—
एतत्ते कथितं विप्र पञ्चप्रकृतिलक्षणम्
This, O Brahmin, is the fivefold characteristic that has been told to you.
मन्त्राराधनपूर्वं च विश्वकामप्रपूरणम्
And, before the worship of the mantra, it fulfills all desires in the universe.
लोकपद्मे तपस्थस्य सृष्ट्यर्थं संबभूवतुः
In the lotus of the world, for the purpose of creation, the two were born through austerity.
तौ जातमात्रौ पयसि लोकप्रलयलक्षणे
As soon as they were born, in the waters, at the time marked by the dissolution of the worlds—
प्रवृत्तावत्तुमालक्ष्य तुष्टाव जगदंबिकाम्
Seeing the beginning of activity, he praised the Mother of the Universe.
नारायणाक्षिसंस्थाना निद्रा प्रीता बभूव ह
Sleep, established in the eyes of Nārāyaṇa, became pleased.
सारुणा क्रोधनी शान्तिश्चन्द्रालङ्कृतशेखरा
She became reddish, wrathful, peaceful, adorned with a moon-crested crown.
गायत्री च भवेच्छन्दो देवता भुवनेश्वरी
She is also Gāyatrī as the metre, the goddess as Bhuvaneśvarī.
संहारसृष्टिमार्गेण मातृकान्यस्तविग्रहः
By the path of dissolution and creation, the Mothers take various forms.
हृल्लेखां मूर्ध्नि वदने गगनां हृदयांबुजे
One should place Hrillekhā on the head, in the mouth, and the sky in the lotus of the heart.
ऊर्द्ध्वप्राग्दक्षिणोदीच्यपश्चिमेषूत्तरे ऽपि च
Also in the upward, eastern, southern, northern, western, and even the upper directions.
अङ्गानि विन्यसेत्पश्चाज्जातियुक्तानि षट् क्रमात्
Then, one should arrange the six limbs, each with their respective class, in order.
सावित्र्या सहितं विष्णुं कपोले दक्षिणे न्यसेत्
With Sāvitrī, one should place Viṣṇu on the right cheek.
श्रिया धनपतिं न्यस्य वामकर्णाग्रके पुनः
With Śrī, one should place the Lord of Wealth again at the tip of the left ear.
सव्यकर्णोपरि निधाकर्णगण्डान्तरालयोः
Above the left ear, and in the space between the ear and the cheek.
कण्ठमूले स्तनद्वन्द्वे वामांसे हृदयांबुजे
At the root of the throat, on both breasts, on the left shoulder, and in the lotus of the heart.
भालांश्च पार्श्वजठरे पार्श्वांसापरके हृदि
On the forehead, at the sides, on the belly, on the other side, and in the heart.
मूलेन व्यापकं देहे न्यस्य देवीं विचिन्तयेत्
With the root, pervading the body, one should meditate on the Goddess.
स्मरास्यामिन्दुमुकुटां वरपाशाङ्कुशाभयाम्
One should meditate on her face, crowned with the moon, holding boon, noose, goad, and gesture of fearlessness.
अष्टद्रव्यैर्दशांशेन ब्रह्मवृक्षसमिद्वरैः
With eight substances, in a tenth part, and with sticks of the Brahma tree.
तन्दुलाज्यतिलं विप्र द्रव्याष्टकमुदाहृतम्
O brāhmaṇa, rice, clarified butter, sesame—these are declared as the eightfold substances.
पद्ममष्टदलं बाह्ये वृत्तं षोडशभिर्द्दलैः
A lotus of eight petals outside, circular, with sixteen petals.
ततः संपूजयेत्पीठं नवशक्तिसमन्वितम्
Then one should worship the seat endowed with nine powers.
नित्या विलासिनी गोग्धीत्यघोरा मङ्गला नव
She is ever playful, radiant, auspicious, and newly beautiful.
तस्यां संपूजयेद्देवीमावाह्यावरणैः क्रमात्
Upon her, one should worship the Goddess, having invoked her with coverings in order.
षट्कोणेषु यजेन्मन्त्री पश्चान्मिथुनदेवताः
In the six corners, the priest should offer sacrifice, then to the paired deities.
गायत्रीं पूजयेन्मत्री ब्रह्माणमपि तादृशम्
The priest should worship Gayatri, and likewise Brahma.
