शालिभिर्जुह्वतो नित्यमष्टोत्तरसहस्रकम्
One who offers, always, one thousand and eight oblations with rice grains,
उषाजा जीनालिकेररजोभिर्गृतमिश्रितैः
with the dust from the feet of an old cow, mixed with clarified butter,
मण्डलाज्जायते सो ऽपि कुबेर इव मानवः
from the circle (of the ritual), that person is born, like Kubera, among men.
जपापुष्पाणि जुहुयादष्टोत्तरसहस्रकम्
One should offer one thousand and eight hibiscus flowers in oblation,
चतुर्णामपि वर्णानां मोहनाय द्विजोत्तमः
for the enchantment of all four classes, O best of twice-born,
सम्पदस्तस्य जायन्ते महालक्ष्मीः प्रसीदति
Wealth arises for him; Mahalakshmi is pleased.
या तु दुर्गा द्विजश्रेष्ठ शिवलोकं गता सती
That Durga, O best of Brahmins, who, being Sati, went to Shiva's realm,
देवीलोकेति विख्यातं सर्वलोकविलक्षणम्
is renowned as the realm of the Goddess, distinct from all other worlds.
विविधान् स्वावतारान्हि त्रिकाले कुरुते ऽनिशम्
She indeed performs various incarnations at all three times, constantly.
प्रतिष्ठा स्मृतिसंयुक्ता क्षुधया सहिता पुनः
Her establishment is endowed with memory and accompanied by hunger, again.
ऋषिः स्याद्वामदेवो ऽस्य छन्दो गायत्रमीरितम्
Vamadeva is the seer of this (hymn); the meter is said to be Gayatri.
ताराद्येकैकवर्णेन हृदयादित्रयं मतम्
With each syllable beginning with 'ta', the triad of heart, etc., is considered.
महामरकतप्रख्यां सहस्रभुजमण्डिताम्
One should contemplate the Goddess, shining like a great emerald, adorned with a thousand arms,
कङ्कणाङ्गदहाराढ्यां क्वणन्नूपुरकान्विताम्
rich in bracelets, armlets, and necklaces, adorned with tinkling anklets,
किरीटकुण्डलधरां दुर्गां देवीं विचिन्तयेत्
wearing a crown and earrings, Durga, the Goddess, should be meditated upon.
पयोंऽधसा वा सहस्रं नवपद्मात्मके यजेत्
Or, with a thousand offerings of milk, one should worship her whose nature is that of a new lotus.
सुप्रभा विजया सर्वसिद्धिदा पीठशक्तयः
Suprabha, Vijaya, and the seat-powers, bestowers of all accomplishments,
प्रणवो वज्रनखदंष्ट्रायुधाय महापदात्
The syllable Om (is for) the one with weaponry of diamond-like nails and fangs, the great-footed.
दद्यादासनमेतेन मूर्तिं मूलेन कल्पयेत्
One should offer a seat with this, and establish the image at its base.
जया च विजया कीर्तिः प्रीतिः पश्चात्प्रभा पुनः
Jaya, Vijaya, Kirti, Priti, and then again Prabha follow afterward.
पत्राग्रेष्वर्चयेदष्टावायुधानि यथाक्रमात्
On the tip of the leaf, one should worship the eight weapons in their proper order.
लोकेश्वरांस्ततो बाह्ये तेषामस्त्राण्यनन्तरम्
Then, outside of them, the Lords of the World, and immediately after, their weapons.
कुर्यात्प्रयोगानमुना यथा स्वस्वमनीषितान्
One should perform the application with this, according to each one's own intention.
रत्नहेमादिसंयुक्तान्घटेषु नवसु स्थितान्
Those adorned with gems, gold, and the like, placed in nine pots.
संपूज्य गन्धपुष्पाद्यैरभिषिञ्चेन्नराधिपम्
Having worshipped them with incense, flowers, and so forth, one should anoint the king.
प्राप्नोत्रोगो दीर्घायुः सर्वव्याधिविवर्जितः
He attains health, long life, and freedom from all diseases.
मन्त्रेणानेन संजप्तमाज्यं क्षुद्रग्रहापहम्
Ghee, recited with this mantra, removes minor afflictions.
जृंभश्वासे तु कृष्णस्य प्रविष्टेराधिकामुखम्
When Krishna enters through yawning or breathing, it is especially desired.
तस्या विधानं विप्रेन्द्र शृणु लोकोपकारकम्
O best of Brahmins, listen to its procedure, which benefits the world.
सरस्वती चतुर्थ्यन्ता स्वाहान्तो द्वादशाक्षरः
Sarasvati ends in the fourth case, and with svaha, it is twelve syllables.
