वासुदेवः संकर्षणः प्रद्युम्नश्चानिरुद्धकः
Vāsudeva, Saṃkarṣaṇa, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha,
परमेष्ठिपुमाञ्च्छौ चविश्वनिवृत्तिसर्वकाः
Parameṣṭhi, Pumān, Śaucya, Viśvanivṛtti, and Sarvakā,
स्वबीजाद्यं कोपतत्वं नृसिंहं व्यापकेन च
The principle of wrath, beginning from one's own seed, and Nṛsiṃha, with the all-pervading one,
मकाराद्या आद्यवर्णाः सर्वे स्युश्चन्द्रभूषिताः
All the initial syllables, beginning with 'ma', should be adorned with the moon.
प्राणायामं ततः कृत्वा पूरकुम्भकरेचकैः
Then, having performed prāṇāyāma with inhalation, retention, and exhalation,
केचिदाहुरिहाचार्याः प्राणायामोत्तरं पुनः
Some teachers here say that prāṇāyāma should be repeated again afterwards.
दशतत्त्वादि विन्यस्य वक्ष्यमाणविधानतः
Having placed the ten principles and others according to the method to be described,
सर्वाङ्गे व्यापकं कृत्वा किरीटमनुना सुधीः
The wise one should make the all-pervading principle throughout the body with the Kirīṭa mantra.
पञ्चाङ्गुलीषु करयोः पञ्चाङ्गं विन्यसेत्ततः
On the five fingers of the hands, one should arrange the five parts.
सकृद्व्यापय्य तारेण मन्त्रन्यासं ततश्चरेत्
Having spread them once with the syllable 'tāra', one should then perform the placement of the mantra.
घ्राणयोर्वदने कण्ठे हृदि नाभौ तथा पुनः
On the nostrils, mouth, throat, heart, and navel, and again likewise,
हृदन्तान्मन्त्रवर्णांश्च ततो मूर्ध्नि ध्रुवं न्यसेत्
One should place the mantra syllables ending in the heart firmly upon the head.
विन्यसेद्धृदयान्तानि मनोः पञ्चपदानि च
One should arrange the syllables ending in the heart and the five sections of the mind.
अथ वक्ष्ये महागुह्यं सर्वन्यासोत्तमोत्तमम्
Now I shall declare the supreme secret, the highest of all placements.
अणिमाद्यष्टसिद्धीनामीश्वरः स्यान्न संशयः
There is no doubt that the lord of the eight powers beginning with 'aṇimā' is attained.
ताराद्याभिर्व्याहृतिभिः संपुटं विन्यसेन्मनुम्
With the utterances beginning with 'tāra', one should enclose the mantra.
गायत्र्या पुटुतं मन्त्रं विन्यसेन्मातृकास्थले
One should place the mantra enclosed by the Gāyatrī on the seat of the mother syllables.
मातृकापुटितं मूलं विन्यसेत्साधकोत्तमः
The excellent practitioner should place the root mantra enclosed by the mother syllables.
तृचं न मातृकावर्णान्पूर्वं तत्तत्स्थले सुधीः
The wise should first place the syllables of the mother, not the threefold ones, at each respective location.
अनेन न्यासवर्येण साक्षात्कृष्णसमो भवेत्
By this excellent placement, one becomes equal to Krishna in direct realization.
देवा अपि नमन्त्येनं किंपुनर्मानवा भुवि
Even the gods bow to him; what then of men on earth?
देवं ध्यायन्स्वहृदये सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायकम्
Meditating on the deity in one's own heart, who grants all desired things,
सस्मेयमञ्जरीवृन्दवल्लरीवेष्टितैः शुभैः
With beautiful clusters of blossoming creepers entwined,
स्मरेच्छिशिरितं वृन्दावनं मन्त्रीसमाहितः
The mantra practitioner should remember the cool Vrindavana.
लुब्धान्तः करणैर्गुञ्जद्द्विरेफपटलैः शुभम्
With the humming swarms of bees within, eager in their actions, auspicious,
मुखरीकृतमानृत्यन्मायूरकुलमञ्जुलम्
Made resounding by the dancing flocks of peacocks, charming.
उन्निद्रांबुरुहव्रातरजोभिर्धूसरैः शिवैः
With the pure dust of the sleepless lotus-cluster, sanctified and gray,
विलोलनपरैः संसेवितं वा तैर्निरन्तरम्
Constantly attended by those whose devotion is unwavering and whose minds are stirred.
तदधः स्वर्णवेद्यां च रत्नपीठमनुत्तमम्
Beneath that, on a golden altar, is the peerless throne of jewels.
अष्टपत्रं च तन्मध्ये मुकुन्दं संस्मरेत्स्थितम्
In its center, upon an eight-petaled lotus, one should contemplate Mukunda standing.
