एभिः पुत्रैरिदं व्याप्तं सदेवासुरमानुषम्
By these sons, this world has been filled, with gods, demons, and humans.
तपश्च सत्यमित्येवं लोकाः सत्योपरि स्थिताः
Austerity and truth—thus, the worlds are established upon truth.
महातलं च विप्रेन्द्र ततो ऽधच्च रसातलम्
And, O best of Brahmins, below that is Mahatala, and beneath it, Rasatala.
एष सर्वेषु लोकेषु लोकनाथांश्च सृष्टवान्
He created the lords of the worlds in all realms.
वर्त्तनादीनि सर्वाणि यथायोग्यंमकल्पयत्
He arranged all the modes of existence and activities according to their proper order.
लोकालोकश्च भूम्यन्ते तन्मध्ये सत्प सागराः
Lokāloka is at the end of the earth, and in between are the seven oceans.
बाह्या नद्यश्च विख्याता जनाश्चामरसन्निभाः
The famous external rivers and people resembling Amaras are there.
क्रौञ्चशाकौ पुष्करश्च ते सर्वे देवभूमयः
Krauncha, Shaka, and Pushkara—all these are realms of the gods.
लवणेक्षुसुरासर्पिर्दधिक्षीरजलैः समम्
Together with salt, sugarcane juice, wine, clarified butter, curds, milk, and water.
ज्ञेया द्विगुणविस्तरा लोकालोकाञ्च पर्वतात्
The worlds are known to be twice the breadth of the Lokāloka mountain.
ज्ञेयं तद्भारतं वर्षं सर्वकर्मफलप्रदम्
That land called Bhārata is to be known as the giver of all fruits of actions.
तत्फलं भुज्यते चैव भोगभूमिधनक्रमात्
Its fruit is enjoyed in accordance with the order of enjoyment, land, and wealth.
तत्फलं क्षयि विप्रेन्द्र भुज्यते ऽन्यत्रजन्तुभिः
O best of Brahmins, that fruit is exhausted and enjoyed elsewhere by creatures.
संचितं सुमहत्पुण्यमक्षय्यममलं शुभम्
The accumulated, great merit is imperishable, pure, and auspicious.
कदा पुण्येन महता यास्याम परमं पदम्
When, by great merit, shall we attain the supreme state?
जगदीशंसमेष्यामो नित्यानन्दमनामयम्
We shall reach the Lord of the universe, eternal bliss, and freedom from affliction.
न तस्य सदृशो ऽन्यो ऽस्ति त्रिषु लोकेषु नारदा
O Nārada, there is no one equal to Him in the three worlds.
शुक्षषुर्वापि महतः सवेद्यो दिविजैरपि
Even the greatest, whether pure or impure, can be known by the gods.
भक्तोच्छिष्टान्नसेवी च याति विष्णोः परं पदम्
One who partakes of the food remnants of devotees attains the supreme abode of Vishnu.
अहिंसादिपरः शन्तिः सो ऽपि वन्द्यः सुरोत्तमैः
He who is devoted to nonviolence and similar virtues, and is peaceful, is also worthy of reverence by the best of the gods.
सर्वभूतहितो नित्यं सो ऽभ्यर्च्यो दिविजैः स्मृतः
He who always acts for the welfare of all beings is remembered as worthy of worship by the gods.
अनसूयुःशुचिर्दक्षो यः सो ऽप्यर्च्यःसुरेश्वरैः
He who is free from envy, pure, and skillful is also to be worshipped by the lords of the gods.
वेदवादरतो नित्यं स ज्ञेयः पङ्किपावनः
He who is always devoted to the discourse of the Vedas is to be known as a purifier of the fallen.
सर्वं यो ब्रह्मण नित्यमस्मदादिषु का कथा
He who sees everything as Brahman—what more need be said about us and others?
अपरिग्रहशी लश्च देवपूज्यः स नारद
He who is free from possessions is to be honored by the gods, O Narada.
परोपकारनिरतः पूजनीयः सुरासुरैः
One who is devoted to the welfare of others is to be worshipped by both gods and demons.
सत्संगे ऽपि च यस्यास्ति सो ऽपि वन्द्यः सुरोत्तमैः
Even one who possesses association with the virtuous is worthy of reverence by the best of the gods.
करोति भारते वर्षे संबन्धो ऽस्माभिरेव च
He who establishes a connection with us in the land of Bharata—
स एव दुष्कृतिर्मूढो नास्त्यन्यो ऽस्मादचेतनः
He alone is wicked and deluded; there is no one else as senseless as he.
पीयूषकलशं सुक्त्वा विषभाण्डमुपाश्रितः
Having abandoned a pot of nectar, he resorts to a vessel of poison.
