ममापीष्टेहं गन्धर्व वीणेत्याह कपीश्वरः
The lord of monkeys said, 'I too desire the vīṇā, O Gandharva.'
तदा मुष्टिप्रहारेण गन्धर्वः पातितः क्षितौ
Then, with a blow of his fist, the Gandharva was struck down to the ground.
हनुमान्वानरश्रेष्ठो गायन्प्रागाच्छिवान्तिकम्
Hanuman, the foremost among the monkeys, approached Shiva while singing.
बृहतीकुसुमैः शुद्धैर् देवपादावपूजयत्
He worshipped the feet of the god with pure flowers of the bṛhatī plant.
दैत्यानां देवतानां च नृपाणां शङ्करो ऽपि च
Even Shankara surpasses the demons, the gods, and kings—
समुल्लङ्घने शक्तिं शास्त्रज्ञत्वं बलोन्नतिम्
in the ability to leap, in mastery of the scriptures, and in the height of strength.
प्रत्यक्षं मम विप्रेन्द्र हनुमान्हर्षमागगतः
O best of Brahmins, Hanuman appeared before me, filled with joy.
प्रसन्नमूर्तिस्तरुणः शिवांशः संभावयामास समस्तदेवान्
With a gracious form, youthful, a portion of Shiva, he honored all the gods.
महेशेनाहमप्येनं शशिमौलिमवैमि च
By the great lord, I too recognize him as the one with the crescent moon on his head.
बुद्धौ न्याये च वै धैर्ये तादृगन्यो ऽस्ति न क्वचित्
In intellect, in justice, and in courage, there is truly no other like him anywhere.
पठतां शृण्वतां चैव गच्छ विप्र यथासुखम्
O Brahmin, whether reading or listening, go as you please.
वचनं दक्षिणीकृत्य नत्वा चागां यथागतः
Having accepted the words, and bowing, he departed as he had come.
सुखदं मोक्षदं सारं किमन्यच्छ्रोतुमिच्छसि
What more do you wish to hear, when this essence brings happiness and liberation?
यत्पप्रच्छ पुनस्तच्च युष्मभ्यं प्रवदाम्यहम्
That which you asked again, I shall now tell you all.
चरितं च महत्पुण्यं श्रुत्वा भूयो ऽब्रवीद्वचः
Having heard the great and holy story, he spoke further words.
श्रावितं चरितं पुण्यं शिवस्य च हनूमतः
The holy deeds of Shiva and Hanuman have been narrated.
तत्प्रब्रूहि महाभाग किं पृष्ट्वान्यद्विदांवर
Tell that, O highly fortunate one—what else should be asked, O best of the wise?
ब्रह्माद्या यान्समाराध्य सृष्ट्यादिकरणे क्षमाः
Those whom Brahma and the others worship, who are capable in the work of creation—
गोपीजनपदं पश्चाद्वल्लभायाग्निसुंदरी
Afterwards, the land of the cowherd women, Vallabha, and Agnisundarī.
नारदो ऽस्य मुनिश्छन्दो गायत्री देवता पुनः
Nārada is the sage of this (hymn), Chandas is the meter, and Gāyatrī is again the deity.
स्वाहा शक्तिर्नियोगस्तु चतुर्वर्गप्रसिद्धये
Svāhā is the power, and the injunction is for the accomplishment of the four aims of life.
गुह्ये बीजं पदोः शक्तिं न्यसेत्साधकसत्तमः
In the secret place, the best among practitioners should place the seed and the power at the feet.
पञ्चाङ्गानि प्रविन्यस्य तत्त्वन्यासं समाचरेत्
Having placed the five limbs, one should perform the installation of the principles.
मत्यन्तानि च तत्वानि जीवाद्यानि न्यसेत्क्रमात्
He should sequentially place the ultimate principles, beginning with the living soul.
शब्दं स्पर्शं रूपरसौ गन्धं श्रोत्रं त्वचं तथा
Sound, touch, form, taste, and smell; hearing, skin likewise,
पायुं शिश्नमथाकाशं वायुं वह्निं जलं महीम्
Anus, genitals, and then ether, air, fire, water, and earth,
मूर्द्धास्यहृद्गुह्य पादेष्वथ शब्दादिकान्न्यसेत्
On the head, mouth, heart, secret place, and feet, he should place the elements beginning with sound.
तथा वागादीन्द्रियाणि स्वस्वस्थानषु विन्यसेत्
Likewise, he should place the sense organs, beginning with speech, in their respective locations.
हृत्पुण्डरीकमर्केन्दुह्निबिंबान्यनुक्रमात्
The lotus of the heart, the sun, and the moon discs, in order,
भूताष्टां गाक्षिपदगैर्वर्णैः प्रग्विन्न्यसेद्धृदि
He should place the eight elements in the heart with the syllables of the eye, foot, and others.
