जगज्जाड्यविध्वंसनोभुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदः स्तात्प्रसन्नः सदा शुद्ध कीर्तिः
May he, destroyer of the world’s dullness, giver of enjoyment and liberation, always be pleased; may his pure fame endure.
लयं यास्यते यत्र वाचां विदूरे स वै नः प्रसन्नो ऽस्तु कालत्रयात्मा
Where all dissolves, where speech falls silent—may he, the soul of the three times, be pleased with us.
स वै सर्वमूर्तिः सदा नो विभूत्येप्रसन्नो ऽस्तु किं ज्ञापयामो ऽत्र कृत्यम्
He who is all-formed, may he always be gracious to us for our prosperity; what need is there to declare our purpose here?
विष्णुमाह मुनीनेतानानयस्व मदन्तिकम्
Viṣṇu said: 'O sage, bring these ascetics to me.'
मुनीन्सांत्वय्य विश्वेशं दर्शयामास शङ्करम्
After consoling the sages, he revealed Śaṅkara, the Lord of the universe.
तपोलोकाद्भूमिलोकं मुनयो मुक्तकिल्बिषाः
The sages, freed from all sin, came from the world of ascetics to the earthly realm.
देव द्वादशलोकानां दृश्यन्ते भस्मराशयः
O god, heaps of ashes are seen in the twelve worlds.
तच्छ्रुत्वा गिरिशः प्राह तान्मुनीनूर्द्धरेतसः
Hearing this, the Lord of the Mountain addressed those sages of pure mind.
सन्देहो नास्ति मुनयः स्थितानां नो रहःस्थले
O sages, there is no doubt for those who remain steadfast, not even in a secret place.
कथमङ्गारवृष्टिश्च कथं नो वा महाध्वनिः
How did the rain of embers occur, and how did that great noise arise for us?
प्रोचुः प्राञ्जलयो देवं ब्रह्मादिसुरसंगतम्
With joined palms, they spoke to the god, who was surrounded by Brahmā and the other gods.
स एवाङ्गार वृष्टिं च पिपासुरपिबद्विभोः
He alone, desiring to drink, caused the rain of embers, O Lord.
वीरो ऽप्याह कपेर्लिङ्गे पीठाभावादिदं कृतम्
The hero also said: This was done because the pedestal was absent at the monkey’s liṅga.
कपेश्चित्तं परिज्ञातुं मया कृतमिदं द्विजाः
O twice-born, I did this to discern the mind of the monkey.
इत्युक्त्वा तु यथापूर्वं देवदेवः कृपानिधिः
Having spoken thus, the compassionate Lord of gods acted as before.
कल्पयामास विश्वात्मा वीरभद्रमथाब्रवीत्
The Soul of the universe then created Vīrabhadra and spoke to him.
ततस्ते विपुला कीर्तिर्लोके स्थास्यति शाश्वती
Then your great fame will remain in the world forever.
तांबूलं वीरभद्राय दत्तवान्प्रीतमानसः
With a delighted heart, he gave betel to Vīrabhadra.
समाप्तायां तु पूजायां हनुमान्प्रीतमानसः
When the worship was completed, Hanumān, with a joyful mind,
ददर्श तमथाभ्याह वीणा मे दीयतामिति
saw him and then said, 'Let the vīṇā be given to me.'
ममापीष्टेहं गन्धर्व वीणेत्याह कपीश्वरः
The lord of monkeys said, 'I too desire the vīṇā, O Gandharva.'
तदा मुष्टिप्रहारेण गन्धर्वः पातितः क्षितौ
Then, with a blow of his fist, the Gandharva was struck down to the ground.
हनुमान्वानरश्रेष्ठो गायन्प्रागाच्छिवान्तिकम्
Hanuman, the foremost among the monkeys, approached Shiva while singing.
बृहतीकुसुमैः शुद्धैर् देवपादावपूजयत्
He worshipped the feet of the god with pure flowers of the bṛhatī plant.
दैत्यानां देवतानां च नृपाणां शङ्करो ऽपि च
Even Shankara surpasses the demons, the gods, and kings—
समुल्लङ्घने शक्तिं शास्त्रज्ञत्वं बलोन्नतिम्
in the ability to leap, in mastery of the scriptures, and in the height of strength.
प्रत्यक्षं मम विप्रेन्द्र हनुमान्हर्षमागगतः
O best of Brahmins, Hanuman appeared before me, filled with joy.
प्रसन्नमूर्तिस्तरुणः शिवांशः संभावयामास समस्तदेवान्
With a gracious form, youthful, a portion of Shiva, he honored all the gods.
महेशेनाहमप्येनं शशिमौलिमवैमि च
By the great lord, I too recognize him as the one with the crescent moon on his head.
बुद्धौ न्याये च वै धैर्ये तादृगन्यो ऽस्ति न क्वचित्
In intellect, in justice, and in courage, there is truly no other like him anywhere.
