That great offense which I committed by leaving you in your own house—
She did not speak, even when addressed thus, but departed together with Arundhati.
Then Śivā spoke to him: 'Gautama, what do you desire?'
'I would be fulfilled if you were to eat in my house.'
'I shall eat in your house, O brāhmaṇa, with Śaṅkara’s approval.'
He served food to Girijā, the goddess, and also to Arundhati.
With a thousand daughters of sages, she went to Hara.
'Having performed my twilight worship, I shall come to you.'
All those desiring to perform the twilight rite went out.
Then Śambhu, facing north, performed the nyāsa and began to recite.
He who is worshipped and honored by all—
With hands joined in reverence, all worshipped you alone.
You, O great Lord, are the giver of the fruits of all meritorious acts such as salutations.
Hearing this, Śaṅkara spoke to Janārdana, the god of gods:
'But this was done by me for the sake of engaging those who are atheistic beings.'
'Therefore, all this was done by me for the benefit of the world.'
Then, at that time, the divine sages arrived at Gautama’s house.
The god, along with Hanumat, remains there singing, O lord of sages.
Holding Hanuman's hand, Shiva joined with the two gods.
Hanuman sits singing, as do Tumburu and the others.
Calling Parvati, the Lord spoke these words.
The goddess said: It is not proper for a wife to serve her husband in that way.
O Lord, I do not wish for all that pertains to hair arrangement.
Then, with the last touch, he cleaned the hair and flowers.
What answer should be given then, O you praised by gods?
Thus speaking, Shankara drew her with his hand.
He separated her hair with his hands and arranged it with his nails.
He made a braid and fashioned a garland held in his hand.
Maheshvara made a garland of celestial flowers given by Brahma.
Then the Lord cleaned the area attached to her shoulder and back.
