Vasudeva played the mardala drum with his hands as well.
Tānakā, Gautama, and others were present; the singer was the son of Vāyu.
Those who were weak became strong, and those who were feeble regained vigor.
The hosts of gods, sages, and Dānavas all became silent.
Each deity mounted their own vehicle and departed.
O monkey, at my command, ascend the bull without fear.
Then the tiger among monkeys spoke to the blessed great Lord.
O Lord, if I mount your vehicle, I would become a sinner.
But I will sing facing you—behold this.
When Śaṅkara, the god, had mounted Hanuman's shoulders, Śiva—
Hearing the nectar of song, Śambhu then went to Gautama's house.
There, Gautama was honored at the time of the meal.
Everything flourished as Hanuman sang.
During that song, the minds of all were filled with wonder.
With a gracious form, youthful, placed in the midst, with heads and hands raised in reverence.
Seated in the lotus posture, Hanuman placed one foot in his cupped hands and the other at his mouth.
On his shoulder, at his mouth, on the palm of his hand, at his throat, on his chest, and in the middle of his breasts, and at his heart—
Taking Hanuman’s head and bowing it down, Shankara touched his back with his own chin along the way.
Shiva made a necklace of pearls and placed it on Hanuman’s neck.
There is no one equal to Hanuman in the entire sphere of the universe.
O lord of all monkeys, your feet are the unmanifest essence of all the Upanishads.
In the lotus of the great yogis’ hearts, the supreme, tranquil Hanuman abides.
Even though I have worshipped you with devotion, O Lord, you have not revealed your feet to me.
Both Hari and Shambhu are dear to me, yet I do not possess such fortune.
There is no one else as dear to me as you, O Hari, anywhere.
Then Gautama, having bowed down to the great god,
This midday has passed, and it is the time for everyone to eat.
Entering Gautama’s house, he began preparations for the meal.
With many necklaces, then with neck-ornaments, sacred thread, and upper garment,
