प्रणम्य प्रञ्जलिर्भूत्व स्तोतुं समुपचक्रमे
Becoming reverent with folded hands, she bowed and began to praise him.
नमोनमस्ते ऽमरनायकाय नमोनमो दैतेयविनाशनाय
Salutations, salutations to you, Lord of the immortals; salutations, salutations to you, destroyer of the Daityas.
नमोनमो दुर्जननाशनाय नमो ऽस्तु तस्मै जगदीश्वराय
Salutations, salutations to you, destroyer of the wicked; salutations to that Lord of the universe.
सशार्ङ्गचक्रासिगदाधाराय नमो ऽस्तु तस्मै पुरुषोत्तमाय
Salutations to him who bears the bow, discus, sword, and mace; salutations to that Supreme Person.
नमो ऽस्तु सूर्याद्यमितप्रभाय नमोनमः पुण्यकथागताय
Salutations to you whose radiance is limitless like the sun and others; salutations, salutations to you who are reached through holy stories.
नमो ऽस्तु यज्ञाङ्गविराजिताय नमो ऽस्तु ते सज्जनवल्लभाय
Salutations to you who shine with the limbs of sacrifice; salutations to you, beloved of the virtuous.
नमो ऽस्तु ते दिव्यसुखप्रदाय नमो नमो भक्तमनोगताय
Salutations to you, giver of divine happiness; salutations, salutations to you who dwell in the minds of devotees.
नमो ऽस्तु ते यज्ञवराहनाम्ने नमो हिरण्याक्षविदारकाय
Salutations to you, known as Yajna and Varaha; salutations to you, who tore apart Hiranyaksha.
नमो ऽस्तु ते रावणमर्दनाय नमो ऽस्तु ते नन्दसुताग्रजाय
Salutations to you, crusher of Ravana; salutations to you, elder brother of Nanda's son.
स्मृतार्तिनाशिने तुभ्यं भूयो भूयो नमोनमः
To you who destroy the suffering of those who remember you in distress, again and again, salutations.
यज्ञरुप यजद्रूप यज्ञाङ्गं त्वां यजाम्यहम्
O embodiment of sacrifice, O form of sacrifice, O one whose limbs are sacrifice, I worship you.
उवाच प्रहसन्हर्षं वर्ध्दयन्कश्यपस्य सः
He spoke, smiling, increasing the joy of Kashyapa.
अचिरात्साधयिष्यामि निखिलं त्वन्मनोरथम्
Very soon I shall fulfill all your desires.
अस्मिञ्जन्मन्यपि तथा सादयाम्युत्तमं सुखम्
Even in this very birth, I will grant you the highest happiness.
आरेभे गुरुणा युक्तः काव्येन च मुनीश्वरैः
Engaged by my teacher and by the great sages with poetry,
हविः स्वीकरणार्थाय ऋषिभिर्ब्रह्मवादिभिः
For the purpose of accepting the oblation, by the sages who are knowers of Brahman,
आमन्त्र्य मातापितरौ स बटुर्वामनो ययौ
Having taken leave of his mother and father, that young Vāmana set out.
हविर्भोक्तुमिवायातो बलेः प्रत्यक्षतो हरिः
Hari himself appeared before Bali, as if to partake of the oblation.
यो भक्तियुक्तस्तस्यान्तः सदा संनिहितो हरिः
He who is endowed with devotion—Hari is always present within him.
ज्ञात्वा नारायणं देवमुद्ययुः सभ्यसंयुताः
Recognizing Nārāyaṇa, the god, they rose together with the assembly.
स्वसारमविचार्यैव खलाः कार्याणि कुर्वते
The wicked act without consideration, even regarding their own sister.
विष्णुर्वामनरुपेण ह्यदितेः पुत्रातां गतः
Viṣṇu, in the form of Vāmana, indeed became the son of Aditi.
न किञ्चिदपि दातव्यं मन्मतं शृणु पण्डित
Nothing at all should be given—hear my opinion, O wise one.
परबुद्धिर्विनाशाय स्त्रीबुध्दिः प्रलयङ्करी
Another’s counsel leads to ruin; a woman’s counsel brings destruction.
शत्रूणां हितकृतद्यस्तु स हन्तव्यो विशेषतः
He who acts for the benefit of enemies must especially be destroyed.
यदादत्ते स्वयं विष्णुः किमस्मादधिकं वरम्
When Viṣṇu himself accepts, what greater boon could there be than this?
स चेत्साक्षाद्धविर्भोगी मत्तः को ऽभ्यधिको भुवी
If he himself is the enjoyer of the oblation, who on earth is greater than I?
तदेव परमं दानं दत्तं भवति चाक्षयम्
That alone is the supreme gift, and what is given thus becomes imperishable.
येन केनाप्यर्चितश्वेद्ददाति परमां गतिम्
Whoever worships him in any way—he grants the highest state.
अनिच्छयापि संस्पृष्टो दहत्येव हि पावकः
Even when touched without desire, fire indeed still burns.
