स्वशङ्खनादसंत्रस्तान्सहस्रारसहस्रभृत्
Terrified by the sound of his own conch, bearing a thousand arms and a thousand heads,
कार्तवीर्य महावीर्य सर्वदुष्टविनाशन
Kārtavīrya, of great might, destroyer of all wicked ones,
किं त्वं स्वपिषि दुष्टघ्न किं तिष्टसि चिरायासि
Why do you sleep, destroyer of evil? Why do you stand still? Why do you delay?
ये चौरा वसुहर्तारो विद्विषो ये च हिंसकाः
Those who are thieves, robbers of wealth, haters, and violent ones,
दुर्हृदो दुष्टभू पाला दुष्टामात्याश्च पापकाः
Those of evil hearts, wicked rulers, corrupt ministers,
सर्वस्वहारिणां ये च पञ्च मायाविनो ऽपरेः
And those who seize all possessions, and the five kinds of deceivers,
ये ऽग्निदा गरदातारो वञ्चकाः शस्त्रपाणयः
Those who set fires, poisoners, cheats, and those who wield weapons,
व्याजकाः कुपथासक्ता ये च नानाभयप्रदाः
Impostors, those attached to wrong paths, and those who cause various fears,
ते सर्वे कार्तवीर्यस्य महाशङ्खरवाहताः
All these are struck down by the great conch-blast of Kārtavīrya.
ये दानवा महादित्या ये यक्षा ये च राक्षसाः
Those who are Dānavas, great Ādityas, Yakṣas, and Rākṣasas,
अपस्मारग्रहा ये च ये ग्रहाः पिशिताशनाः
Those who are Apasmāra-spirits, seizing demons, and flesh-eating spirits,
गन्धर्वाप्सरसः सिद्धा ये च देवादियोनयः
Gandharvas, Apsarases, Siddhas, and all beings born from the gods,
महाव्याघ्रमहामेघा महातुरागरूपकाः
Great tigers, great clouds, and those who take the forms of great diseases,
ऋक्षवाराहशुनकवानरोलूकमूर्तयः
Those who appear as bears, boars, dogs, monkeys, and owls,
नानारूपा महासत्त्वा नानाक्लेशसहस्रदाः
Beings of many forms, possessing great strength, who bring thousands of different afflictions,
वातिकाः पैत्तिका घोरा श्लैष्मिकाः सान्निपातिकाः
Diseases arising from wind, bile, terrifying phlegm, and those of combined humors,
स्कान्दा वैनायकाः क्रूरा ये च प्रमथगुह्यकाः
Those of Skanda, of Vināyaka, fierce ones, and the spirits called Pramathas and Guhyakas,
ऐकाहिका व्द्याहिकाश्च त्र्याहिकाश्च महाज्वराः
Fevers of one day, two days, and three days, and the great fevers,
सांवत्सरा दुर्निवार्या ज्वराः परमदारुणाः
Year-long, hard-to-restrain fevers, exceedingly dreadful,
कूष्माण्डा जृंभिका भौमा द्रोणाः सान्निध्यवञ्चकाः
Kūṣmāṇḍas, Jṛmbhikās, earth-spirits, Droṇas, and deceivers by proximity,
मनोबुद्वीन्द्रियहराः स्फोटकाश्च महाग्रहाः
Those who steal mind, intellect, and senses, eruptions, and great afflictions,
दिवाचरा रात्रिचरा ये च संध्यासु दारुणाः
Those who move by day, those who move by night, and those dreadful at the twilights,
ते सर्वे कार्त्तवीर्यस्य धनुर्मुक्तशराहताः
All these were struck down by the arrows released from Kārtavīrya’s bow.
ये सर्पा ये महानागा महागिरिबिलेशयाः
All the serpents, the great nāgas, dwelling in the caves of great mountains,
अनन्तशूलिकाद्याश्च दंष्ट्राविषमहाभयाः
Those like Ananta and Śūlika, and others, terrifying with fangs and deadly venom,
महाविषजलौकाश्च वृश्चिका रुक्तपुच्छकाः
Great poisonous leeches, scorpions, and those with blood-red tails,
जलसर्पा जलव्याला जलग्राहाश्च कच्छपाः
Water-snakes, water-beasts, crocodiles, and turtles,
जलजाः स्थलजाश्चैव कृत्रिमाश्च महाविषाः
Aquatic, terrestrial, and even artificial beings, all possessing great poison,
नानाविषाश्च ये घोरा महोपविषसंज्ञकाः
Various poisonous beings, terrifying, known as the most deadly,
ते सर्वे कार्तवीर्यस्य खङ्कसाहस्रदारिताः
All these were split apart by the thousand blows of Kārtavīrya’s sword.
