स्ववाग्भवाभ्यां नवमो वर्मास्त्राभ्यामथान्तिमः
The ninth is from his own speech and being, then the last two are the armor and missile mantras.
मन्त्रे तु दशमे वर्णा नववर्मास्त्रमध्यगाः
In the tenth mantra, the letters are within the nine-lettered armor and missile.
एषामाद्ये विराट्छदो ऽन्येषु त्रिष्टुबुदाहृतम्
Of these, the first is called Virāṭ; in the others, Triṣṭubh is declared.
तदादिमः शिवार्णः स्यादन्ये तु द्वादशाक्षराः
The first is the syllable 'Śiva'; the others are twelve-syllabled.
एवं विंशतिमन्त्राणां यजनं पूर्ववन्मतम
Thus, the worship of these twenty mantras is prescribed as before.
तारो हृत्कार्तवीर्यार्जुनाय वर्मास्त्रठद्वयम्
The syllable 'tāra' in the heart, for Kārtavīryārjuna, is the pair of armor and missile.
भूनेत्रसमनेत्राक्षिवर्णेरस्याङ्गपञ्चकम्
The five limbs of this are the syllables of 'bhū', 'netra', 'samanetra', and 'akṣi'.
वर्मास्त्राग्निप्रियामन्त्रः प्रोक्तो ह्यष्टादशार्णकः
The mantra dear to Agni, of armor and missile, is said to have eighteen syllables.
नमो भगवते श्रीति कार्तवीर्यार्जुनाय च
Salutations to the Blessed Lord, to Kārtavīryārjuna.
परिपालितसप्तान्ते द्वीपाय सर्वरापदम्
To the lord of the seven islands, protected at the end, the refuge from all calamities.
सहस्रदहनप्रान्ते वर्मास्त्रान्तो महामनुः
At the end of a thousand burnings, the great mantra of armor and missile concludes.
राजन्यक्रवर्ती च वीरः शूरस्तृतीयकः
He is a king, a universal sovereign, a hero, and the third is a mighty warrior.
रेवांबुपरितृप्तश्च काणो हस्तप्रबाधितः
He is satisfied by the waters of the Revā, one-eyed, and his hand is afflicted.
सिंच्यमानं युवतिभिः क्रीडन्तं नर्मदाजले
He is sprinkled by young women, playing in the waters of the Narmadā.
एवं ध्यात्वायुतं मन्त्रं पजेदन्यत्तु पूर्ववत्
Thus, meditating on the ten-thousandfold mantra, one should worship as before.
कार्तवीर्यार्जुनो नाम राजा बाहुसहस्रवान्
The king named Kārtavīryārjuna is possessed of a thousand arms.
लभ्यते मन्त्रवर्यो ऽयं द्वात्रिंशद्वर्णसंयुतः
This excellent mantra is obtained, consisting of thirty-two syllables.
कार्तवीर्याय शब्दान्ते विद्महे पदमुञ्चरेत्
At the end of the word 'Kārtavīrya', one should utter the word 'vidmahe'.
तन्नोर्ऽजुनः प्रवर्णान्ते चोदयात्पदमीरयेत्
Then Arjuna, at the end of the recitation, should prompt and utter the concluding verse.
अनुष्टुभं मनुं रात्रौ जपतां चौरसंचयाः
At night, thieves gather around those who recite the Anuṣṭubh meter mantra.
अथो दीपविधिं वक्ष्ये कार्तवीर्यप्रियङ्करम्
Now I shall explain the procedure for the lamp, which brings delight to Kārtavīrya.
माघफाल्गुनयोर्मासोर्दीपारंभं समाचरेत्
One should begin the lighting of the lamp during the months of Māgha and Phālguna.
हस्तोत्तराश्विरौद्रेयपुष्यवैष्णववायुभे
On the days of Hasta, Uttara, Aśvini, Raudra, Puṣya, Vaiṣṇava, and Vāyu nakṣatras,
चरमे च व्यतीपाते धृतौ वृद्धौ सुकर्मणि
At the end, during Vyatīpāta, Dhṛti, Vṛddhi, and on auspicious occasions,
करणे विष्टिरहिते ग्रहणे ऽर्द्धोदयादिषु
When the Karaṇa is free from Viṣṭi, during eclipses, and at the rising of Arddhodayā and others,
कार्तिके शुक्लसप्तम्यां निशीथे ऽतीव शोभनः
In the month of Kārtika, on the seventh day of the bright fortnight, at midnight, it is especially auspicious.
अत्यावश्यककार्येषु मासादीनां न शोधनम्
For extremely urgent matters, there is no purification regarding the months and other factors.
प्रातः स्नात्वा शुद्धभूमौ लिप्तायां गोमयोदकैः
In the morning, after bathing, on purified ground smeared with cow dung and water,
षट्कोणं रचयेद्भूमौ रक्तचन्दनतण्डुलैः
One should draw a hexagon on the ground with red sandalwood and rice grains.
नवार्णैर्वेष्टयेत्तञ्च त्रिकोणं तद्बहिः पुनः
One should encircle it with nine kinds of grains, and outside that, again draw a triangle.
