न जानन्ति परं भावं तं वन्दे सर्वनायकम्
They do not know His supreme nature; I bow to Him, the Lord of all.
प्रमाणातीतसद्भावस्तं वन्दे ज्ञानसाक्षिणम्
He whose true being is beyond all proof—I bow to Him, the witness of knowledge.
ऊर्वोर्वैश्यः समुत्पन्नः पद्यां शूद्रो ऽभ्यजायत
From His thighs arose the Vaiśya; from His feet, the Śūdra was born.
मुखादग्निस्तर्थेन्द्रश्च प्राणाद्वायुरजायत
From His mouth came Agni and Indra; from His breath, Vāyu was born.
षडङ्गरुपिणे तुभ्यं भूयोभूयो नमो नमः
Repeated salutations to You, who are endowed with six limbs.
त्वमग्निर्निरृतिश्चैव वरुणस्त्वं दिवाकरः
You are Agni, Nirṛti, Varuṇa, and also the Sun.
गिरयः सिद्धगन्धर्वानद्यो भूमिश्च सागराः
The mountains, Siddhas, Gandharvas, rivers, earth, and oceans—
त्वद्रूपमखिलं देव तस्मान्नित्यं नमो ऽस्तु ते
O God, all forms are Your form; therefore, may there always be salutations to You.
दैतेयैर्बाधितान्पुत्रान्मम पाहि जनार्दन
O Janārdana, protect my sons who are afflicted by the Daityas.
उवाच प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा हर्षाश्रुक्षालितस्तनी
She spoke, with joined palms, her breasts wet with tears of joy.
अकण्टकां श्रियां देहि मत्सुतानां दिवौकसाम्
Grant unblemished prosperity to my sons, the dwellers of heaven.
अज्ञातं किं तव श्रीश किं मामीहयसि प्रभो
O Lord of Śrī, what is unknown to You? Why do You test me, O Master?
वृथापुत्रास्मि देवेश दैतेयैः परिपीडिता
O Lord of the gods, I am childless, oppressed by the Daityas.
तानहत्वा श्रियं देहि मत्सुतेभ्यः सुरेश्वर
O Lord of the gods, after slaying them, grant prosperity to my sons.
उवाच हर्षयन्विप्र देवमातरमादरात्
The wise one spoke, gladdening the mother of the gods with respect.
यतः सपन्तिपुत्रेषु वात्सल्यं देवि दुर्लभम्
O goddess, affection for sons is rare among those who are rivals.
तेषां संपद्वरा पुत्रा न हीयन्ते कदाचन
Their supreme prosperity and children never diminish at any time.
न तस्य पुत्रशोकः स्यादेष धर्मः सनातनः
He does not experience grief for his children; this is the eternal law.
असंख्याताण्डरोमाणं सर्वेशं सर्वकारणम्
He is the cause of all, the lord of all, with countless universes as his pores.
तमहं देवदेवेशं धारयाम किथं प्रभो
How can I, O Lord of lords, sustain you, O Master?
धारयामि कथं देव त्वामहं पुरुषोत्तमम्
How can I, O God, sustain you, the Supreme Person?
मुच्यते स कथं देवोग्राम्येषु जनिमर्हति
How can that divine one be freed, O God, who is worthy of birth among mortals?
तथायमपि को वेद तव विश्वेश चेष्टितम्
Likewise, who indeed knows your actions, O Lord of the universe?
त्वामेव चिन्तये देव यथेच्छासि तथा कुरु
I contemplate only you, O God; do as you wish.
दत्त्वाभयं देवमातुरिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
Having granted fearlessness, the mother of the gods spoke these words.
तथापि शृणु वक्ष्यामि गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं शुभे
Still, O auspicious one, listen—I will tell you a secret even more hidden.
वंहति सततं तें मां गतासूया अदाम्भिकाः
Those who are ever free from envy and deceit always bear me.
मत्कथाश्रवणासक्ता वहन्ति सततं हि माम्
Those attached to hearing my stories indeed always bear me.
वहन्ति सततं देवि स्त्रियो ऽपि त्यक्तप्रत्सराः
Even women, O goddess, who have abandoned pride, always bear me.
हितकृद्वाह्यणानां यः स मां वहति सर्वदा
Whoever acts for the welfare of others always bears me.
