अनेन दीपवर्येण उदङ्मुखगतेन वै
With this excellent lamp, facing north,
त्रयोदशैवं द्रव्याणि गोमयं मृत्तिका मसी
these thirteen substances: cow dung, clay, ink,
कस्तूरिका दधि क्षीरं नवनीतं घऋतं तथा
musk, curd, milk, fresh butter, and ghee as well,
पश्चाद्विनष्टद्रव्याप्तौ माहिषं गोमयं स्मृतम्
if any of these substances are unavailable, buffalo dung is prescribed.
बालादिरक्षणे चैव चौरादिभयनाशने
For the protection of children and others, and for the removal of fear from thieves and the like,
भूमिस्पृष्टं न तद्ग्राह्यमन्तरिक्षाञ्च भाजने
that which has touched the ground should not be taken; it must be kept in a vessel off the ground.
तत्र गोपीचन्दनं तु हरितालं च गौरिकम्
There, gopīcandana, haritāla, and gaurika are to be used.
कृत्वा गोपीचदंनेन चतुरस्रं गृहं सुधीः
The wise one should make a square house with gopīcandana.
बीजं क्रोधाञ्च तत्पुच्छं लिखेन्मन्त्री समाहितः
With concentration, the officiant should inscribe the seed syllable and the tail of wrath.
शतपत्रसमो धूपः शालनिर्याससंभवः
The incense should be like a hundred-petaled lotus, made from the resin of the śāla tree.
दध्योदनेन नैवेद्यं दद्यात्साधकसत्तमः
The best practitioner should offer as food boiled rice with curd.
एवं कृते तु नष्टानां महिषीणां गवामपि
When this is done, even lost buffaloes and cows
चौरादिदुष्टसत्त्वानां सर्पादीनां भये पुनः
and in the case of fear from evil beings such as thieves or serpents,
पूर्वद्वारे गजः स्थाप्यो दक्षिणे महिषस्तथा
an elephant should be placed at the eastern door, and a buffalo at the southern.
एवं क्रमेण खड्गं च क्षुरिकादण्डमुद्गरान्
In this order, a sword, a knife, a staff, and a mace
कृत्वा डमरुहस्तां च चकिताक्षीं प्रयत्नतः
should be placed with care, along with a woman holding a ḍamaru and with startled eyes.
जातीपुष्पैस्तु संपूज्य शुद्धधूप प्रकल्पयेत्
After worshipping with jasmine flowers, pure incense should be offered.
गगनं दीपिकेन्द्वाढ्यां शास्त्रं च पुरतो जपेत्
One should recite the scripture in front of the lamp adorned with celestial light.
अनयोर्भौंमवारे तु कुर्यादारंभमादरात्
On a Saturday, one should begin this rite with reverence.
कृत्वा तदन्तरे तालमीष्टन्नम्रं समालिखेत्
Having done so, in the interval, one should draw a palm leaf, slightly bowed, as desired.
वामहस्तेन तालाग्रं दक्षिणे ज्ञानमुद्रिका
With the left hand, touch the tip of the palm leaf; with the right, form the gesture of knowledge.
चतुरस्र विधायाथ तन्मध्ये मूर्तिमालिखेत्
Then, having made a square, one should draw the image in its center.
तोयेन स्नानगन्धादि यथासंभवमर्पयेत्
With water, and as available, offer bathing, fragrance, and other items.
किलिद्वयं जपं प्रोक्तमेवं कुर्याद्दिने दिने
The recitation of the two kilakas should be performed in this manner every day.
श्यामपाषाणखण्डेन लिखित्वा भूपतेर्गृहम्
With a piece of dark stone, one should inscribe it at the king’s house.
अन्योन्यपुच्छ रिधित्रययुक्तां हनूमतः
Depict Hanuman, endowed with threefold prosperity, with their tails entwined.
जटामांसीभवं धूपं तैलाक्तघृतदीपकम्
Incense made from jatamansi, and a lamp anointed with oil and ghee, should be used.
ध्येयो दक्षिणहस्तेन रोटिकां भक्षयन्हरिः
One should meditate on Hari, eating a flatbread with his right hand.
प्नारयन्भ्रुकुटीं बद्ध्वा भीषयन्मथयन्स्थितः
He stands, knitting his brows, roaring, terrifying and crushing foes.
एवं कृतविधानेन परसैन्यं विनाशयेत्
By performing the rite in this way, one destroys the enemy’s army.
