पुनर्न्यसेत्प्रयत्नेन ध्यानं कुर्वन्समाहितः
Then, with effort, one should again perform the nyasa, meditating with focused mind.
पश्चान्नारायणः शङ्खी नीलजीमूतसन्निभः
Behind, Narayana holds a conch, resembling a dark raincloud.
गिविन्दो दक्षिणे पार्श्वे धन्वी चन्द्रप्रभो महान्
On the right side is Govinda, bearing a bow, radiant as the moon and great in form.
आग्नेय्यामरविन्दाक्षो मुसलीमधुसूदनः
In the southeast is Amaravindaksha, holding a mace, and Madhusudana.
वायव्यां माधवो वज्री तरुणादित्यसन्निभः
In the northwest is Madhava, wielding a thunderbolt, resembling the young sun.
विद्युत्प्रभो हृषीकेश उर्द्धू पातु समुद्गरः
Hrishikesha, shining like lightning, stands above, holding a club.
सर्वायुधः सर्वशक्तिः सर्वाद्यः सर्वतोमुखः
He is armed with all weapons, possesses all powers, is the origin of all, and faces in every direction.
स बाह्याभ्यन्तरे देहमव्याद्दामो दरो हरिः
May that garlanded, awe-inspiring Hari protect my body, both outwardly and inwardly.
प्रविष्टो ऽहं न मे किञ्चिद्भयमस्ति कदाचन
Having entered, I have no fear whatsoever at any time.
सर्वेषु नृहरेर्मन्त्रवर्गेष्वेवं विधिर्मतः
Such is the prescribed method in all the mantra groups of Narasimha.
जितं ते पुण्डरीकाक्ष नमस्ते विश्वभावन
Victory to you, lotus-eyed one! Salutations to you, creator of the universe.
इत्थं संप्रार्थ्य जप्त्वा च पटित्वा विसृजेद्विभुम्
Having thus prayed, recited, and chanted, one should release the Supreme Lord.
जयद्वयं श्रीनृसिंहेत्यष्टार्णो ऽयं मनूत्तमः
This excellent mantra, 'Victory, victory to Śrī Narasiṃha,' consists of eight syllables.
श्रीमाञ्जयनृसिंहस्तु सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायकः
The glorious 'Jaya Narasiṃha' grants all desired blessings.
षड्वीर्घाढ्ये न कुर्वीत षडङ्गानि विशालधीः
A wise person should not perform the six limbs in a verse of six long syllables.
ततो ध्यायेद्धृदि विभुं नृसिंहं चन्द्रशेखरम्
Then, one should meditate in the heart on the all-pervading Narasiṃha, the moon-crested Lord.
वह्नीन्दुतीव्रकरनेत्र पिनाकपाणे शीतांशुशेखर रमेश्वर पाहि विष्णो
O Lord Viṣṇu, with blazing, fierce rays like fire and moon, holding the bow, crowned with the cool moon, Lord of Rāma, protect me!
साज्येन पायसान्नेन जुहुयात्प्राग्वदर्चनम्
One should offer oblations with clarified butter and rice pudding, as previously described in worship.
महाविष्णु ततो ब्रूयाज्ज्वलन्तं सर्वतोमुखम्
Then, one should address Mahāviṣṇu, who is blazing and faces in all directions.
वदेद्धोरतरं ते तु तनुरूपं च ठद्वयम्
One should utter your most intense form and the two forms beginning with 'ṭha.'
बन्धद्वयं घातयेति द्वयं वर्मास्त्रमीरयेत्
Command the destruction of the two bonds, and recite the two armor-weapons.
पञ्चाशीत्यक्षरो मन्त्रो भजतामिष्टदायकः
The mantra of eighty-five syllables grants the desired objects to the devotee.
छन्दसी च तथा घोरनृसिंहो देवता मतः
In the meter as well, the fierce Narasiṃha is regarded as the deity.
विशेषान्मन्त्रवर्यो ऽयं सर्वरक्षाकरो मतः
Especially, this supreme mantra is considered to grant all protection.
ऋषिः प्रजापतिश्चास्यानुष्टुप्छन्द उदाहृतम्
The seer is Prajapati; its meter is Anushtubh, as has been declared.
जं बीजं हं तथा शक्तिर्विनियोगो ऽखिलाप्तये
The seed is 'jaṃ', the power is 'haṃ'; its application is for the attainment of all desires.
रौद्रं ध्यायेन्नृसिंहं तु शत्रुवक्षो विदारणम्
One should meditate on the fierce Narasimha, tearing open the chest of the enemy.
तप्तहाटककेशान्तज्वलप्तावकलोचनम्
His hair blazes like molten gold, his eyes shine like burning coals.
मुनिर्ब्रह्मा समाख्यातो ऽनुष्टुप्छन्दः समीरितः
The sage is said to be Brahma; the meter is Anushtubh, as has been stated.
पादैश्चतुर्भिः सर्वेण पञ्चाङ्गानि समाचरेत्
With all four quarters, one should perform the five limbs completely.
