वामस्याङ्गुष्टतो बद्ध्वाकनिष्टामङ्गलीत्रयम्
Binding three fingers—the little, ring, and middle—of the left hand with the thumb,
अङ्गुष्टाभ्यां च करयोस्तथाऽक्रम्य कनिष्टके
And likewise, pressing the little fingers with the thumbs of both hands,
हस्तावधोमुखौ कृत्वा नाभिदेशे प्रसार्य च
Turning the hands downward and spreading them at the navel region,
हस्तावूर्द्ध्वमुखौ कृत्वा तले संयोज्य मध्यमे
Turning the hands upward and joining the middle fingers at the base,
तर्जन्यौ पृष्टतो लग्नौ अङ्गुष्टौ तर्जनीश्रितौ
Placing the index fingers at the back, with the thumbs resting on the index fingers,
चक्रमुद्रा तथा कृत्वा तर्जनीभ्यां तु मध्यमे
Thus forming the cakra-mudrā, with the middle fingers joined by the index fingers,
एता मुद्रा नृसिंहस्य सर्वमन्त्रेषु संमताः
These mudrās of Narasiṃha are approved for all mantras.
घऋताक्तर्जुहुयाद्वह्नौ पीठे पूर्वोदितेर्ऽचयेत्
One should offer oblations in fire with clarified butter, and worship on a seat facing east.
गरडादीन् श्रीमुखांश्च विदिक्षु लोकपान्बहिः
The poison-bearing beings and the auspicious faces should be placed in the directions, outside the guardians of the worlds.
सौम्ये कार्ये स्मरेत्सौम्यं क्रूरं क्रूरे स्मरेद्बुधः
For gentle actions, one should remember the gentle form; for fierce actions, the wise should recall the fierce form.
निशितैर्नखदंष्ट्राग्रैः खाद्यमानं च संस्मरेत्
One should contemplate the being devoured by sharp tips of nails and fangs.
जायते मण्डलादर्वाक् शत्रुर्वै शमनातिथिः
If the ritual circle is made below, the enemy becomes subdued and is rendered as a guest.
श्रीकामः सततं ध्यायेत्पूर्वोक्तं नृहरिं सितम्
One desiring prosperity should always meditate on the previously described white form of Nṛhari.
विषमृत्यूपरोगादिसर्वोपद्रवनाशनम्
It destroys all calamities, such as poison, untimely death, disease, and others.
आन्त्रमालाधरं रौद्रं कण्ठहारेण भूषितम्
Wearing a garland of entrails, fierce, adorned with a necklace around the throat.
चन्द्रमौलिं नीलकण्ठं प्रतिवक्त्रं त्रिनेत्रकम्
With the moon on his head, blue-throated, facing in every direction, and three-eyed.
अक्षसूत्रं गदापद्मं शङ्खं गोक्षीरसन्निभम्
Holding a rosary, mace, lotus, conch, and resembling cow’s milk in hue.
खड्गं शूलं च बाणं च नृहरिं रुद्ररूपिणम्
Holding a sword, spear, arrow, manifesting as Narahari, in the form of Rudra.
पूर्वादि चोत्तरं यावदूद्ध्वार्स्यं सर्ववर्णकम्
From the east and onward, up to the north and above, displaying all colors.
सर्वमृत्युहरं दिव्य स्मरणात्सर्वसिद्धिदम्
The remover of all death, divine, granting all accomplishments by remembrance.
नृसिंहः सर्वलोकेशः सर्वाभरणभूषितः
Nṛsiṃha, lord of all worlds, adorned with every ornament.
शङ्खचचक्रधरौ द्वौ तु द्वौ च बाणघनुर्द्धरौ
Two holding conch and discus, and two holding bow and arrows.
पाशाङ्कुशधरौ द्वौ च द्वौ रिपोर्मुकुटार्पितौ
Two holding noose and goad, and two with crowns placed by the enemy.
ध्यायेन्नारद नीलाभमुग्रकर्ममण्यनन्यधीः
Narada, meditate with unwavering mind on the blue-hued, fierce-acting, jewel-like one.
नृसिंहः सर्वभूतेशः सर्वसिद्धिकरः परः
Nṛsiṃha, lord of all beings, supreme, bestower of all accomplishments.
हलं च मुशलं चैव अभयं चाङ्कुशं तथा
Plough and pestle, as well as the gesture of fearlessness and the goad.
वामभागे करैः शंङ्खं खेटं पाशं च शूलकम्
On the left side, with hands holding conch, shield, noose, and spear.
कार्मुकं तर्जनीमुद्रां गदां डमरुशूर्पकौ
Bow, gesture of admonition, mace, drum, and winnowing basket.
ऊर्द्ध्वीकृताभ्यां बाहुभ्यां आन्त्रमालाधरं विभुम्
With both arms raised, the Lord wearing a garland of entrails.
प्रियङ्करं च भक्तानां दैत्यानां च भयङ्करम्
Bringer of joy to devotees, terrifying to demons.
