मुखबाह्वङ्घ्रिसंध्यग्रेष्वथ कुक्षौ तथा हृदि
At the tips of the mouth, arms, feet, at the joints, the navel, and the heart,
प्रणवान्तरितान् कृत्वा न्यसेत्साधकसत्तमः
Having placed the syllables with praṇava in between, the best practitioner should assign them.
कराङ्घ्षष्टाद्यङ्गुलीषु पृथगाद्यन्तपर्वणोः
On the fingers and toes, beginning with the thumb, at each joint, separately at the base and tip,
शिरोललाटे भ्रुमध्ये नेत्रयोः कर्णयोस्तथा
On the head, forehead, between the eyebrows, on the eyes, and on the ears,
कण्ठे घोणे च भुजयोर्द्दत्तनौ नाभिमण्डले
On the throat, nose, both arms, both sides of the body, and the navel region,
गुल्फे पादकराङ्गुल्योः सर्वसन्धिषु रोमसु
On the ankles, toes, fingers, all the joints, and the hair follicles,
वर्णान्पदे गुल्फजानुकटिनाभिहृदि स्थले
The syllables should be placed at the feet, ankles, knees, hips, navel, and heart,
कर्णयोर्वदने नासापुटे नेत्रे च मूर्द्धनि
On the ears, mouth, nostrils, eyes, and the crown of the head,
आस्ये च हृदय नाभौ पादान्सर्वाङ्गकेन्यसेत्
Also in the mouth, heart, navel, and on the feet, let him assign them to all the limbs.
उग्रादीनि पदानी ह मृत्युमृत्युं नमाम्यहम्
The words beginning with Ugra, 'O Death of death, I bow to you,'
हृदि नाभौ च कट्यादिपादान्तं नवसु न्यसेत्
On the heart, navel, hips, and down to the feet, in nine places, let him assign them.
नृसिंहाद्यानि तान्येव पूर्ववद्विन्यसेत्सुधीः
The names beginning with Nṛsiṃha, let the wise one assign them as before.
विभक्ता पन्त्रवर्णांश्च क्रमात्स्थानेषु विन्यसेत्
Let him assign the separated mantra syllables in order to their places.
हृदयाद्भ्रूयुगान्तं तु नेत्रत्रये च मस्तके
From the heart to the ends of the eyebrows, on the three eyes, and on the head,
विन्यसेन्नामतो धीमान्हरिन्यासो ऽयमीरितः
Let the wise one assign the names in this way; this is called the assignment of Hari.
एवं न्यासविधिं कृत्वा ध्यायेच्च नृहरिं हृदि
Having performed this rite of assignment, one should meditate on Nṛhari in the heart.
नखाग्रभिन्नदैत्येशो ज्वालामालासमन्वितः
The lord of the demons, split at the tips of the nails, is adorned with a garland of flames.
नृसिंहो ऽस्मान्सदा पातुस्थलांबुगगनोपगः
May Narasiṃha always protect us, whether on land, in water, or in the sky.
जानुमध्यगतौ कृत्वा चिबुकोष्टौ समावुभौ
Placing both the chin and the chest at the middle of the knees,
मुखं विजृंभितं कृत्वा लेलिहानां च जिह्विकाम्
Making the mouth wide open and the tongue licking,
वामस्याङ्गुष्टतो बद्ध्वाकनिष्टामङ्गलीत्रयम्
Binding three fingers—the little, ring, and middle—of the left hand with the thumb,
अङ्गुष्टाभ्यां च करयोस्तथाऽक्रम्य कनिष्टके
And likewise, pressing the little fingers with the thumbs of both hands,
हस्तावधोमुखौ कृत्वा नाभिदेशे प्रसार्य च
Turning the hands downward and spreading them at the navel region,
हस्तावूर्द्ध्वमुखौ कृत्वा तले संयोज्य मध्यमे
Turning the hands upward and joining the middle fingers at the base,
तर्जन्यौ पृष्टतो लग्नौ अङ्गुष्टौ तर्जनीश्रितौ
Placing the index fingers at the back, with the thumbs resting on the index fingers,
चक्रमुद्रा तथा कृत्वा तर्जनीभ्यां तु मध्यमे
Thus forming the cakra-mudrā, with the middle fingers joined by the index fingers,
एता मुद्रा नृसिंहस्य सर्वमन्त्रेषु संमताः
These mudrās of Narasiṃha are approved for all mantras.
घऋताक्तर्जुहुयाद्वह्नौ पीठे पूर्वोदितेर्ऽचयेत्
One should offer oblations in fire with clarified butter, and worship on a seat facing east.
गरडादीन् श्रीमुखांश्च विदिक्षु लोकपान्बहिः
The poison-bearing beings and the auspicious faces should be placed in the directions, outside the guardians of the worlds.
सौम्ये कार्ये स्मरेत्सौम्यं क्रूरं क्रूरे स्मरेद्बुधः
For gentle actions, one should remember the gentle form; for fierce actions, the wise should recall the fierce form.
