इन्द्राद्यानपि वज्रादीनेवं सिद्धो भवेन्मनुः
By this, a person becomes accomplished, like Indra and the others with their thunderbolts.
मार्गशीर्षे ऽथ वैशाखे व्रतारंभः प्रशस्यते
The beginning of the vow is especially praised in Mārgaśīrṣa or Vaiśākha.
विनिर्वर्त्य रदान्धावेदपामार्गेण वाग्यता
After completing the dental rituals, one should observe silence according to the prescribed method.
नैवेद्यादींश्च संभारान्रक्तान्सर्वान्प्रकल्पयेत्
He should prepare all the offerings, beginning with the food, so that they are all red.
रक्तगोगोमयालिप्तभूमौ रक्तासने विशेत्
On ground smeared with red cow dung, he should sit on a red seat.
मङ्गलादीनि नामानि स्वकीयाङ्गेषु विन्यसेत्
He should place the names of Maṅgala and others on his own limbs.
धरात्मजं नसोरक्ष्णोः कुजं भौमं ललाटके
He should place the son of the earth on his nostrils and eyes, Kuja and Bhauma on his forehead.
अङ्गारकं शिखायां च सर्वाङ्गे च महीसुतम्
He should place Aṅgāraka on his topknot and Mahīsuta on all his limbs.
मूर्द्धादि वृष्टिकर्तारमापादान्तं न्यसेत्सुधीः
The wise should place the rain-making symbol from the crown of the head to the tips of the feet.
न्यसेदन्ते ततो दिक्षु सर्वकार्यार्थसिद्धिदम्
Then, one should place it at the ends and in the directions, which brings success in all undertakings.
विन्यस्यैवं निजे देहे ध्यायेत्प्राग्वद्धरात्मजम्
Having thus placed it on one's own body, one should meditate on the Son of the Earth as before.
एकविंशतिकोष्ठाढ्ये त्रिकोणे ताम्रपत्रगे
In a triangle containing twenty-one compartments, on a copper plate—
अङ्गानि पूर्वमाराध्य मङ्गलादीन्प्रपूजयेत्
Having first worshipped the limbs, one should then honor auspicious deities and others.
त्रिकोणेषु च सम्पूज्य बहिरष्टौ च मातृकाः
And having worshipped in the triangles, one should also worship the eight Mothers outside.
धूपदीपौ समर्प्याथ गोधूमान्नं निवेदयेत्
Then, having offered incense and lamps, one should present wheat and rice.
मङ्गलाय ततो मन्त्री इदं मन्त्रद्वयं पठेत्
After that, the priest should recite these two mantras for auspiciousness.
सुतार्थिनी प्रपन्ना त्वां गृहाणार्ध्यं नमो ऽस्तु ते
Desiring a son, I have approached you; accept this water for washing the hands—salutations to you.
महीसुत महाभाग गृहाणार्ध्यं नमो ऽस्तु ते
O Son of the Earth, greatly fortunate one, accept this water for washing the hands—salutations to you.
ताराद्यैः प्रणमेत्पश्चात्तावत्यश्च प्रदक्षिणाः
Afterwards, one should bow to Tārā and the others, and then circumambulate them as many times as they are.
कुमारं शक्तिहस्तं च मङ्गलं प्रणमाम्यहम्
I bow to Kumāra, who holds the spear, and to Maṅgala.
मार्जयेद्वामपादेन मन्त्राभ्यां च समाहिता
With the left foot, one should wipe, being concentrated, while reciting the two mantras.
कृतरेखात्रयं वामपादेनैतत्प्रमार्ज्म्यहम्
With the left foot, I wipe away these three lines that have been made.
मार्जयाम्यसिता रेखास्तिस्रो जन्मत्रयोद्भवाः
I wipe away the three black lines, which have arisen from three births.
ध्यायन्ती तत्पदांभोजं पूजासांगत्वसिद्धये
Meditating on that lotus foot, for the attainment of unity with the worship.
सौभाग्यसुखदो नित्यं भव मे धरणीसुत
O Son of the Earth, always grant me good fortune and happiness.
सुखसौभाग्यधनद ऋणदारिद्षनाशक
Giver of happiness, fortune, and wealth, destroyer of debt and poverty.
प्रसादं कुरु देवेश सर्वकल्याणभाजन
O Lord of the gods, bestow your grace, you who are the source of all auspiciousness.
आप्नुवन्ति शिवं सर्वे सदा पूर्णमनोरथाः
All those whose desires are always fulfilled attain blessedness.
प्राप्नुवन्ति सुखं तस्मै नमो धरणिसूनवे
They obtain happiness; I bow to the son of the earth.
पूजितः सुखसौभाग्यं तस्मै क्ष्मासूनवे नमः
When worshipped, he grants happiness and good fortune; to the son of the earth I offer my salutations.
