उषां प्रज्ञां प्रभां संध्यां ततो ब्रह्मादिकान्यजेत्
He should worship Dawn, Wisdom, Radiance, Twilight, and then the deities beginning with Brahma.
दिक्ष्वर्यमादिकानिष्ट्वा भूमिजं च शनैश्चरम्
Having worshipped the guardians of the directions, beginning with Aryaman, he should worship the earth-born and Saturn.
इन्द्राद्यानपि वज्राद्यान्पूजयेत्पूर्ववत्सुधीः
The wise should also worship Indra and the others, and those with thunderbolt and the rest, as before.
समाहितो दिनेशाय दद्यादर्ध्यं दिने दिने
With concentration, he should offer arghya to the lord of the day, each and every day.
विधाय मण्डलं भानोः पीठं पूर्ववदर्चयेत्
Having drawn the circle of the sun, one should worship the seat as before.
पात्रं ताम्रमयं प्रस्थतोयग्राहि सुशोभनम्
A vessel made of copper, beautiful and able to hold a prastha of water,
विलोममातृकामूलमुञ्चरन्पूरयेज्जलैः
Reciting the reverse order of the seed-syllables of the Mothers, one should fill it with water.
कुङ्कुमं रोजनां राजीं चन्दनं रक्तचन्दनम्
Kumkuma, rojana, saffron threads, sandalwood, and red sandalwood,
तिलवेणुयवांश्चैव निक्षिपेत्सलिले शुभे
Sesame, bamboo, and barley—these should be placed in the auspicious water.
गन्धपुष्पधूपदीपनैवेद्याद्यै र्विधानतः
With fragrance, flowers, incense, lamps, and offerings of food, according to the proper rite,
सुधाबीजं चन्दनेन दक्षे करतले लिखेत्
One should write the nectar-seed with sandalwood on the palm of the right hand.
अष्टोत्तरशतावृत्त्या पुनः संपूज्य भास्करम्
Again, with one hundred and eight recitations, one should worship the sun.
आमूर्ध्नि पात्रमुद्धृत्यांबरेण वरणे रवेः
Lifting the vessel to the crown of the head, with a cloth as a covering for the sun,
साधकेन स्वकैक्येन मूलमन्त्रं धिया जपन्
The practitioner, with single-mindedness, should recite the root-mantra with concentration.
दत्त्वा पुष्पाञ्जलिं भूयो जपेदष्टोत्तरं शतम्
Offering a handful of flowers, one should again recite one hundred and eight times.
तेन तुष्टो दिनेशो ऽस्मै दद्याद्वित्तं यशः सुखम्
Pleased by this, the lord of the day grants to him wealth, fame, and happiness.
अर्ध्यदानमिदं प्रोक्तमायुरारोग्यवर्द्धनम्
This offering of water is declared to increase lifespan and health.
तेजोवीर्ययशःकीर्तिविद्याविभवभोगदम्
It bestows brilliance, strength, fame, renown, knowledge, prosperity, and enjoyment.
एवं मनुं जपन्विप्रो दुःखं नैवाप्नुयात्क्वचित्
Thus, a Brahmin reciting the mantra in this way never encounters suffering anywhere.
वियद्वह्निमरुत्साद्यान्तार्वीसेंदुसमन्वितम्
Containing ether, fire, wind, earth, and the moon,
बिंबबीजेन पुटितं सर्वकामफलप्रदम्
Charged with the seed of the orb, it grants all desired fruits.
भृगुर्जलेन्दुमन्वाढ्यः सोमाय हृदयान्तिमः
Enriched by the waters, the moon, and the lineage of Bhrigu, the final mantra is for Soma in the heart.
छन्दः पङ्क्तिस्तु सोमो ऽस्य देवता परिकीर्तिता
The meter is Paṅkti, and Soma is declared as its deity.
षड्दीर्घेण स्वबीजेन षडङ्गानि समाचरेत्
With six long syllables and one's own seed-syllable, one should perform the six limbs.
विभ्राणमिष्टं कुमुदं ध्यायेन्मुक्तास्रजं विधुम्
One should meditate on the desired lotus, bearing pearls as a garland, and the moon.
जुहुयात्तद्दशांशेन पीठे सोमान्तपूजिते
One should offer oblations with one-tenth part of that, on a seat worshipped at the end of Soma.
केसरेष्वङ्गपूजा स्यात्पत्रेष्वेताश्च शक्तयः
The worship of the limbs should be on the filaments; and on the petals, these are the energies.
रात्रिरार्द्रा ततो ज्येत्स्ना कला हारसमप्रभा
Night is moist, then comes Jyotsna, the digit of the moon, shining like a necklace.
सर्वाःस्तनभराक्रान्ता रचिताञ्जलयः शुभाः
All are adorned with the weight of full breasts, with hands joined in reverence, auspicious.
समभ्यर्च्याः सरोजाक्ष्यः पूर्णेन्दुसदृशाननाः
They should be worshipped, lotus-eyed, with faces resembling the full moon.
