गङ्गाजलाभिषेकेण पाह्यस्मात्पातकोच्चयात्
By the ablution with Ganga water, protect us from the accumulation of sins.
स तारयेनगत्सर्वमिति शंसन्ति सूरयः
Thus, it is said by the sages that he delivers all who have gone (before him).
केनोपायेन लभ्येत मुक्तिः सर्वत्र दुर्लभा
By what means can liberation, which is rare everywhere, be attained?
तयैवाकृतपुण्यास्तु तारयन्ति कथं परान्
How do those who have not performed meritorious deeds deliver others by that same (means)?
यथा हि सर्वलोकानामानन्दाय कलानिधिः
Just as the moon, the repository of nectar, is for the joy of all worlds,
तानि सर्वाणि गङ्गायाः कणस्यापि समानिन
So all those (joys) are considered equal even to a single drop of Ganga.
गङ्गाजलं पुनात्येव कुलानामेकविंशतिम्
Indeed, Ganga water purifies as many as twenty-one generations of families.
गङ्गाजलप्रदानेन पाह्मस्मान्पापकर्मिणः
By the offering of Ganga water, protect us, the doers of sinful deeds, from evil.
निशम्य विस्मया विष्टो बभूव द्विजसतमः
Hearing this, the best of twice-born became filled with wonder.
किमु ज्ञानप्रभावाणां महतां पुण्यशालिनाम्
What then of those great and virtuous ones endowed with the power of knowledge?
सर्वपूतहितो भक्तः प्राप्रोतीति परं पदम्
The devotee, intent on the welfare of all and purified, attains the supreme state.
तुलसीदलसंमिश्रं तेषु रक्षःस्वसेचयत्
He sprinkled them with water mixed with tulasi leaves for their protection.
विमृज्य राक्षसं भावमभवन्देवतोपमाः
Having wiped away their demonic nature, they became like the gods.
कोटिसूर्यप्रतीकाशा बभूवुर्विवुधर्षभाः
The best of the gods became radiant like millions of suns.
स्तुवन्तो ब्राह्मणं सम्यक्ते जग्मुर्ह रिमान्दिरम्
Praising the Brahmin properly, they went to the heavenly abode.
जगाम महतीं चिन्तां दृष्ट्वा तान्मुक्तिगानधान्
Seeing those who had attained liberation, he fell into deep thought.
धर्ममूलं महावाक्यं बभाषे ऽगाधया गिरा
He spoke the great saying, the root of righteousness, with profound words.
राजस्तवापि भागान्ते महच्छ्रेयो भविष्यति
O King, even for you, at the end of your share, great good fortune will arise.
प्रयान्ति नात्र संदेहस्तद्विष्णोः परमं पदम्
They go, without doubt, to that supreme abode of Vishnu.
प्रयान्ति परमं स्थानं गुरुपूजापरायणाः
Those devoted to the worship of the guru attain the highest state.
मनसा निर्वृत्तिं प्राप्यसस्मार च गुरोर्वचः
Having attained inner peace in his mind, he remembered the words of his guru.
पीर्ववृत्तं च विप्राय सर्वं तस्मै न्यवेदयत्
He reported everything that had happened before to the brahmin.
नामानि व्याहरन्विष्णोः सद्यो वाराणसीं ययौ
Reciting the names of Vishnu, he immediately went to Varanasi.
ब्राह्मणीदत्तश पात्तु मुक्तो मित्रसहो ऽभवत्
Freed by the gift of the brahmin's wife, Mitrasaha was released.
अभिषिक्तो मुनुश्रेष्ठ स्वकं राज्यमपालयत्
Consecrated, O best of sages, he ruled over his own kingdom.
वशिष्टात्प्राप्य सन्तानं गतो मोक्षं नृपोत्तमः
Having obtained offspring from Vashishtha, the best of kings attained liberation.
गृणञ्छृण्वन्स्मरन्गङ्गां पीत्वा मुक्तो भवेन्नरः
A man who praises, listens to, remembers, or drinks the Ganga becomes liberated.
पारं गन्तुं सुराधीशैर्ब्रह्मविष्णुशिवरपि
Even the lords of the gods—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—seek to cross over.
विमुक्तो ब्रह्मसदनं नरो याति न संशयः
Freed, a man goes to the abode of Brahma—of this there is no doubt.
तदैव पापनिमुक्तो ब्रह्मलोके महीयते
At that very moment, freed from sin, he is honored in the world of Brahma.
