एवं संतप्य तत्पश्चात्पूर्ववत्सोपचारकैः
Having thus satisfied, afterwards, as before, with the prescribed offerings,
भाद्रकृष्णचतुर्थ्यादिप्रतिमासमतन्द्रितः
From the fourth day of the bright fortnight of Bhādra, he should be diligent each month.
तावन्नोपविशेद्भूमौ जितवाक्क्रियामानसः
Until then, he should not sit on the ground, having subdued speech, action, and mind.
पूर्वोक्तविधिना सम्यङ्नानापुष्पोपहारकैः
Properly, according to the previously stated method, with various offerings of flowers,
तदग्रे प्रजपेन्मन्त्रमष्टोत्तरसहस्रकम्
In front of that, he should recite the mantra one thousand and eight times.
अर्ध्यं दद्यात्तु मूलान्ते ङेंते गणपतिं ततः
At the end of the root-mantra, he should offer water for sipping, and then worship Gaṇapati.
स्तुत्वा नत्वा विसृज्याथ यजेच्चन्द्रमसं पुनः
Having praised, bowed, and dismissed, he should then worship the Moon again.
निवेदितेषु विप्राय दद्यादर्धांश्च मोदकान्
After offering, he should give half of the sweet dumplings to the brāhmaṇa.
एवं व्रतं यः कुरुते सम्यक्संवत्सरावधि
Whoever performs this vow properly for a full year,
सूर्योदयादशक्तश्चेदस्तमारभ्य मन्त्रवित्
If unable at sunrise, the knower of mantras should begin at sunset.
एवं कृते ऽपि पूर्वोक्तं फलमाप्नोति निश्चितम्
Even if done in this way, he certainly attains the result previously stated.
गजभग्रेन निंबेन सितार्केंणाथवा पुनः
With a piece of elephant, with neem, with white arka, or again—
अभ्यर्च्य विधिवन्मन्त्री राहुग्रस्ते निशाकरे
Having worshipped according to the prescribed rite, with mantras, when the moon is eclipsed by Rāhu,
द्यूते विवादे समरे व्यवहारे जयं लभेत्
One attains victory in gambling, disputes, battles, and legal proceedings.
स्मृतिर्मांसेंदुमन्वाग्रा कर्णोच्छिष्टगणे वदेत्
The recollection is at the tip of the tongue; one should recite among the group of remnants taken from the ear.
बलिमन्त्रो ऽयमाख्यातो न चेद्वर्णो ऽखिलेष्टदः
This is declared to be the mantra for offering; if not, the syllable grants all desires.
हस्तीति च पिशाचीति लिखेञ्चैवाग्रिंसुंदरी
One should write 'hasti' and 'piśāci' and also 'agriṃsundarī'.
पदैः सर्वण मन्त्रेण पञ्चाङ्गानि प्रकल्पयेत्
With the words of the universal mantra, one should establish the five limbs.
अथाभिधास्ये विधिवद्वक्रतुण्डमनुत्तमम्
Now I shall properly declare the unsurpassed Vakratuṇḍa.
सदीर्घो दारको वायुर्वर्मान्तो ऽयं रसार्णकः
A boy with a long body, wind as his armor, this is the essence of rasa.
वक्रतुण्डाभिधो बीजं वं शक्तिः कवचं पुनः
The seed is called Vakratuṇḍa, 'vaṃ' is the power, and again the armor.
कृत्वा षडङ्गमन्त्रार्णान्भ्रूमध्ये च गले हृदि
Having applied the six-limbed mantras at the center of the brows, the throat, and the heart,
उद्यदर्कद्युतिं हस्तैः पाशाङ्कुशवराभयान्
With hands shining like the rising sun, holding noose, goad, boon, and protection gestures,
ध्यात्वैवं प्रजपेत्तर्कलक्षं द्रव्यैर्दशांशतः
Thus meditating, one should recite a thousand times, with offerings of ten parts each.
मूर्तिं मूर्तेन संकल्प्य तस्यामावाह्य पूजयेत्
Conceiving the form with a form, one should invoke and worship in that.
यजेद्विद्यां विधात्रीं च भोगदां विप्रघातिनीम्
One should worship the goddess of knowledge, the creator, the bestower of enjoyment, and the destroyer of Brahmins.
दलाग्रेषु वक्रतुण्ड एकदंष्ट्रमहोदरौ
At the tips of the petals, Vakratuṇḍa, with one tusk and a great belly,
धूम्रवर्णस्ततो बाह्ये लोकेशान्हेतिसंयुतान्
Of smoky color, then outside, accompanied by the lords of the world and weapons.
साधंयेदखिलान्कामान्वक्रतुण्ड प्रंसादतः
He fulfills all desires together, by the favor of Vakratuṇḍa.
ब्रह्मचारी हविष्याशी सत्यवाक् च जितेन्द्रियः
A celibate, eating sacrificial food, truthful in speech, and self-controlled.
