अग्निहोत्रोद्भवं भस्म गृहीत्वा त्र्यंबकेण तु
Taking ash produced from the agnihotra, with the name Tryambaka—
क्रमात्तत्पुरुषाघोरसद्योजातादिनामभिः
—and successively with the names Tatpuruṣa, Aghora, Sadyojāta, and others—
शैवं शाक्तस्त्रिकोणा भं नारीवद्वा समाचरेत्
The Śaiva or Śākta should perform the triangle mark, or as is proper for a woman.
आचम्य विधिवन्मन्त्री तीर्थान्यावाह्य पूर्ववत्
Having performed ācāmana according to rule, the mantrin should invoke the sacred waters as before.
सप्तधा तज्जलेनाथ मूर्द्धानमभिषेचयेत्
Then, O Lord, one should consecrate the head with that water seven times.
आदाय वामहस्तेंऽबु दक्षेणाच्छाद्य पाणिना
Taking water in the left hand, and covering it with the right palm,
मूलेन तस्मात् श्चोतद्भिर्बिन्दुभिस्तत्त्वमुद्रया
With drops falling from the root, using the gesture of truth,
कृत्वा तदक्षरं मन्त्री नासिकान्तिकमानयेत्
Having made that syllable, the officiant should bring it near the tip of the nose.
प्रक्षाल्यान्तर्गतं तेन कल्मषं तज्जलं पुनः
By means of that, he should wash away the inner impurity; then, again, with that water,
क्षिपेदस्त्रेण तत्पश्चात्कल्पिते कुलिशोपले
He should cast it away with a weapon, afterwards, upon a prepared thunderbolt-stone.
ततश्च हस्तौ प्रक्षाल्य प्राग्वदाचम्य मन्त्रवित्
Then, having washed the hands, as before, the knower of mantras should rinse the mouth.
प्रक्षिप्यार्घं प्रदद्याद्वै मूलान्तैर्मन्त्रमुच्चरन्
Having poured the offering, he should give it, reciting the mantra from root to end.
दत्त्वार्घं त्रिरनेनाथ देवं रविगतं स्मरेत्
Having given the offering three times in this way, he should meditate upon the deity residing in the sun.
अष्टांविंशतिवारं वा गुह्येतिमनुनार्पयेत्
Or, twenty-eight times, he should mentally offer the secret mantra.
कृष्णाजिनांबरां ब्राह्मीं ध्यायेत्ताराङ्किते ऽम्बरे
He should meditate upon Brahmi, clad in black antelope skin, in a garment marked with stars.
शुक्लांबरां वृषारूढां त्रिनेत्रां रविबिंबगाम्
Upon her who is dressed in white, riding a bull, three-eyed, and bearing the mark of the sun.
सायाह्ने रत्नभूषाढ्यां पीतकौशेयवाससाम्
In the evening, adorned with jewels, wearing yellow silk garments.
गदापद्मधरां देवीं सूर्यासनकृताश्रयाम्
Upon the goddess holding mace and lotus, seated upon the throne of the sun.
तर्पयित्वा स्वेष्टदेवं तर्पयेत्कल्पमार्गतः
Having satisfied one's chosen deity, one should offer satisfaction according to the prescribed method.
सायुधं वैनतेयं संतर्पयामीति तर्पयेत्
He should offer satisfaction to Vainateya, with weapons, saying: 'I offer satisfaction.'
विष्वक्सेन च शैलेयं वैष्णवः परितर्पयेत्
The Vaishnava should also fully satisfy Vishvaksena and Shaileya.
पूजागारं समागत्य प्रक्षाल्याङ्घ्री उपस्पृशेत्
Having entered the place of worship, he should wash his feet and touch them.
पूजास्थलं समागत्य द्वारपूजां समाचरेत्
Having come to the place of worship, one should perform the worship at the doorway.
सरस्वतीं वामभागे दक्षे विघ्नेश्वरं पुनः
Sarasvatī should be placed on the left side, and again Gaṇeśa on the right.
वामे च यमुनां दक्षे धातारं वामतस्तथा
On the left, Yamunā; on the right, Dhātā; and likewise on the left as well.
द्वारपालांस्ततो ऽभ्यर्चेत्तत्तत्कल्पोदितान्सुधीः
Then, the wise should worship the doorkeepers as prescribed by the respective tradition.
भद्रः सुभद्रश्चेत्याद्या वैष्णवा द्वारपालकाः
Bhadra, Subhadra, and others are the Vaiṣṇava doorkeepers.
वृषभश्च महाकालः शैवा वै द्वारपालकाः
Vṛṣabha and Mahākāla are the Śaiva doorkeepers.
सेंदुः स्वनामाघर्णाद्या ङेनमोंता इमे स्मृताः
Sendu, Svanāma, Agharna, and others, beginning with 'namaḥ' and 'oṃ', are remembered here.
दिव्यान्तरिक्षभौमांश्च विघ्नानुत्सार्य यत्नतः
Having diligently driven away obstacles of divine, atmospheric, and earthly origin,
