करयोः सप्त वै दद्यात्रित्रिवरं च पादयोः
One should give seven on the hands and three times three on the feet.
कृत्वा वनस्पतिं चाथ प्रार्थयेन्मनुनामुना
Having taken a plant, then one should pray with the mantra prescribed by Manu.
श्रियं प्रज्ञां च मेधां च त्वं नो देहि वनस्पते
O plant, grant us prosperity, wisdom, and intelligence.
गृहीत्वा काममन्त्रेण कुर्यान्मन्त्री समाहितः
Having received it, with the mantra of desire, the officiant should perform with concentration.
हृदन्तः कामबीजाढ्यं दन्तांश्चानेन शोधयेत्
With the seed syllable of desire placed within the heart, one should purify the teeth with this.
देवागारं ततो गत्वा निर्माल्यमपसार्य च
Then, going to the temple of the gods and removing the remnants.
अस्रेण पात्रं संप्रोक्ष्य मूलेन ज्वालयेञ्च तम्
Sprinkling the vessel with tears, and with the root, one should ignite it.
सुगोघृतप्रदीपेन भ्रामितेन समन्ततः
With a lamp of good cow ghee, moved all around.
इति नीराजनं कृत्वा प्रार्थयित्वा निजेश्वरम्
Having performed the nīrājana rite thus, and having prayed to one's own Lord.
गत्वा तीर्थं नमस्कृत्य स्नानीयं च निधाय वै
Going to the sacred place, bowing, and placing the bathing requisites.
विलिप्यपादपर्यन्तं क्षालयेत्तीर्थवारिणा
One should anoint up to the feet and wash with water from the sacred place.
प्रविश्य नाभिमात्रे तु मृदं वामकरस्य च
Entering, one should take clay of the size of the navel with the left hand.
कृत्वाङ्गुल्या गाङ्गमृगमादायास्त्रेण तत्पुनः
Having taken Ganges clay with the finger, one should sprinkle it again with the mantra.
तलस्थां च षडङ्गेषु तन्मन्त्रैः प्रविलेपयेत्
One should apply what is in the palm to the six limbs with those mantras.
विभाव्येष्टमयं सर्वमान्तरं स्नानमाचरेत्
Having visualized everything as composed of the desired, one should perform the internal bath.
मन्त्रमूर्तिं प्रभुं स्मृत्वा तत्पादोदकसंभवाम्
Remembering the Lord, the embodiment of the mantra, and the water arising from his feet.
तया संक्षालयेत्सर्वमन्तर्द्देहगतं मलम्
With that, one should cleanse all the impurity residing within the body.
ततः श्रौतोक्तविधिना स्नात्वा मन्त्री समाहितः
Then, having bathed according to the procedure prescribed by the śruti, the officiant, concentrated.
देशकालौ च संकीर्त्य प्राणायामषडङ्गकैः
Having mentioned the place and time, with the sixfold limbs of breath control—
ब्रह्माण्डोदरतीर्थानि करैः स्पृष्टानि ते रवेः
The sacred fords within the cosmic egg are touched by your hands, O Sun.
तेन सत्येन मे देव देहि तीर्थं दिवाकर
By that truth, O god, grant me the sacred water, O Sun.
नर्मदे सिंधुकावेरि जले ऽस्मिन्संनिधिं कुरु
O Narmada, Sindhu, Kaveri—make your presence in this water.
गोमुद्रयामृतीकृत्य कवचेनावगुण्ठ्य च
Having made it like cow’s urine and nectar, and covering it with a protective seal—
वह्न्यर्केन्दुमण्डलानि तत्र संचितयेद्रुधः
He should firmly collect the circles of fire, sun, and moon there.
मूलेन चैकादशधा तत्र संमन्त्र्य भावयेत्
There, with the root elevenfold, he should contemplate after reciting.
स्नापयित्वार्चयेत्तां च मानसैरुपचारकैः
After bathing and worshipping her with mental offerings—
आधारः सर्वभातानां विष्णोरतुलतेजसः
The support of all beings, of Viṣṇu, of incomparable brilliance—
इति नत्वा समारुन्ध्य सप्तच्छिद्राणि साधकः
Thus, having bowed and closed the seven apertures, the practitioner—
निमज्ज्योन्मज्ज्य त्रिश्चैवं सिंचेत्कं कुंभमुद्रया
Immersing and raising it three times, he should sprinkle with the kumbha-mudrā.
चत्वारो मनवस्ते ऽत्र कथ्यन्ते तान्त्रिका मुने
Here, four Manus are mentioned, O sage, according to the Tantras.
