द्विगुणात्साध्यसिद्धस्तु साध्यसाध्यो विलंबतः
The accomplishment of a task that is already attainable is achieved in half the usual time; but if the task is only partially attainable, it takes twice as long.
सुसिद्धसिद्धोर्द्धतया तत्साध्यो द्विगुणाज्जपात्
By the superiority of one who is fully accomplished, that which is to be accomplished is attained in half the time through recitation.
अरिसिद्धस्तु पुत्रध्नो ऽरिशाध्यः कन्यकापहः
But the accomplishment gained by an enemy destroys sons; the accomplishment achieved by an enemy takes away daughters.
अन्ये ऽप्यत्र प्रकारा हि संति वै बहवों मुने
There are, O sage, indeed many other such methods here as well.
एवं संशोध्य मन्त्रं तु शुद्धे काले स्थले तथा
Thus, having purified the mantra at the proper time and place,
नित्यकृत्यं विधायाथ प्रणम्यगुरुपादुकाम्
and having performed the daily duties, then, after bowing to the teacher’s sandals,
संपूज्य वस्त्रालङ्कारगोहिरण्यधरादिभिः
and having worshipped with cloth, ornaments, cows, gold, and the like,
गुरुः शिष्येण सहितः शुचिर्यागगृहं विशेत्
the teacher, together with the student, pure, should enter the sacrificial hall.
दिव्यानुत्सारयेद्विघ्नान्नभस्थानर्च्य वारिणा
He should drive away divine obstacles from the sky by worshipping with water.
वर्णकैः सर्वतोभद्रे यथोक्तपरिकल्पिते
With colored powders, in all directions, on an auspicious ground prepared as prescribed,
अस्त्रप्रक्षालितं कुंभं यथाशक्ति विनिर्मितम्
a pot, cleansed with the missile mantra, should be made as best as possible.
विलोममातृकामूलमुञ्चरन् शुद्धवारिणा
Reciting the reversed seed-syllables of the alphabet, with pure water,
धूम्रार्चिरूष्मा ज्वलिनी ज्वालिनी विस्फुलिङ्गिनी
Smoky, flaming, blazing, sparkling—these are the ten forms of fire’s energy.
वह्नेर्दश कलाः प्रोक्ताः प्रोच्यन्ते ऽथ रवेः कलाः
Ten aspects of fire are described; now the aspects of the sun are told.
सुषुम्णा भोगदा विश्वा बोधिनी धारिणी क्षमा
Suṣumnā, bestower of enjoyment, Viśvā, awakener, supporter, forbearance—
पूषा तुष्टिश्च पुष्टिश्च रतिश्च धृतिसंज्ञिकाः
Pūṣā, satisfaction, nourishment, delight, and firmness by name—
पूर्णापूर्णामृता चेति प्रोक्ताश्चन्द्रमसः कलाः
Fullness, non-fullness, and nectar—these are said to be the aspects of the moon.
नवरत्नानि निक्षिप्य विन्यसेत्पञ्चपल्लवान्
Having placed nine gems, one should arrange five kinds of leaves.
मुक्तामाणिक्यवैडूर्यगोमेदान्वज्रविद्रुमौ
Pearls, rubies, cat's eye, hessonite, diamond, and coral—
एवं रत्नानि निक्षिप्य तत्रावाह्येष्टदेवताम्
Having thus placed these gems, one should invoke the chosen deity there.
वेद्यां संवेश्य संप्रोक्ष्य प्रोक्षणीस्थेन वारिणा
Seating the deity on the altar, one should sprinkle with water from the purification vessel.
न्यासजालेन संशोध्य मूर्ध्नि विन्यस्य पल्लवान्
Purifying with the net of nyāsa, one should place leaves upon the head.
अभिषिञ्चेत्प्रियं शिष्यं जपन्मूलमनुं हृदि
He should anoint the beloved disciple, reciting the root-mantra in his heart.
गुरुं प्रणम्य विधिवत्संविशेत्पुरतः शुचिः
Having properly bowed to the teacher, the pure one should sit before him.
जपेदष्टोत्तरशतं देयमन्त्रं विधानतः
He should recite, according to rule, one hundred and eight times the mantra to be given.
ततः सचन्दनं हस्तं दत्वा शिष्यस्य मस्तके
Then, having placed sandalwood in his hand, he should touch the disciple's head.
संप्राप्तविद्यः शिष्यो ऽपि निपतेद्गुरुपादयोः
The disciple, having received the knowledge, should bow down at the teacher's feet.
कीर्तिश्रीकान्तिपुत्रायुर्बलारोग्य सदास्तु ते
May you always have fame, prosperity, radiance, sons, long life, strength, and health.
दद्याञ्च दक्षिणां तस्मै वित्तशाठ्यविवर्जितः
He should give the teacher a fee, free from miserliness regarding wealth.
देहपुत्रकलत्रैश्च गुरुसेवापरो भवेत्
With body, sons, and wife, he should be devoted to serving the teacher.
