Narada Purana

परिघं लङ्घयेद्दण्डं नाग्निश्वसनर्दिग्गमम्

One should cross the parigha, not the staff, nor go in the directions of fire or wind.

दिग्राशयस्तु क्रमशो मेषाद्याश्च पुनः पुनः

The directions and their lords, beginning with Aries, are considered in sequence, again and again.

लग्नस्थो भास्करः प्राच्यां दिशि यातुर्ललाटगः

If the Sun is in the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the eastern direction.

दशमस्थः कुजो लग्नाद्याभ्यां यातुर्ललाटगः

If Mars is in the tenth house from the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the direction from the ascendant and the tenth.

लग्नात्सप्तमगः सौरिः प्रतीच्यां तु ललाटगः

If Saturn is in the seventh from the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the western direction.

चतुर्थस्थानगः सौम्यश्चोत्तरस्यां ललाटगः

If Mercury is in the fourth place, the traveler’s forehead is toward the northern direction.

ललाटं तु परित्यज्य जीवितेच्छुर्व्रजेन्नरः

One who desires life should avoid the forehead direction and proceed.

तस्य भङ्गप्रदो राज्ञस्त द्वर्गो ऽपि विलग्नगः

If the king’s malefic planet is joined with the ascendant, it brings destruction for him.

तदभावे दिवारात्रौ यायाद्यातुर्वधो ऽन्यथा

If that is absent, then by day or night, the traveler should go; otherwise, there is death.

प्रतिशुक्रकृतं दोषं हॄन्तुं शक्ता ग्रहा न हि

The planets are not able to remove the fault caused by the counter-Venus.

एतेषां पञ्चगोत्राणां प्रतिशुक्रो न विद्यते

For these five groups, there is no counter-Venus.

द्विजक्षोभे नृपक्षोभे प्रतिशुक्रो न विद्यते

When there is agitation among Brahmins or kings, there is no counter-Venus.

यातुर्भङ्गप्रदः शुक्रः स्वोञ्चस्थश्चेज्जयप्रदः

Venus causes destruction for the traveler, but if in its own sign or exaltation, it brings victory.

तेषामीशस्थराशौ वा यातुर्मृत्युर्न संशयः

If the traveler is in the sign of the lord of these, there is no doubt of death.

जन्मराश्यष्टमर्क्षोत्थदोषा नश्यन्तिं भाक्तः

Faults arising from the eighth sign from the birth sign are destroyed by devotion.

याने स्थिरोदये नेष्टो भव्ययुक्तेक्षितः स्वयम्

A journey begun under a fixed rising sign is not desirable, even if auspiciously indicated.

याम्यदिग्गमनं शय्या न कुर्याद्गेहगोपनम्

One should not make a bed or concealment in the house when proceeding toward the southern direction.

ताभ्यां तयोरिकेन्द्रेषु यातुः शत्रुक्षयो भवेत्

If the traveler’s lords are in those two or their respective signs, there will be destruction of enemies.

शुभवार्गोथ वा लग्ने यातुः शत्रुक्षयस्तदा

If there is an auspicious group or the ascendant, then the traveler’s enemies are destroyed at that time.

तयोरीशस्थिते राशौ यातुः शत्रुक्षयो भवेत्

When the two are established in the sign of the lord, the destruction of enemies occurs for the traveler.

निन्द्यो निखिलयात्रासु घटलग्नो घटांशकः

The conjunction with the Ghaṭa (pot) or its portion is condemned in all journeys.

मूर्तिः कोशो धन्विनश्च वाहनं मन्त्रसंज्ञकम्

The form, the treasury, the archer, the vehicle, and the one named by mantra—

प्राप्तिरप्राप्तिरुदयाद्भावाः स्युर्द्वादशैव ते

Acquisition and non-acquisition, arising and manifestation—these twelve states exist.

न निघ्नतो हि व्यापारं सौम्याःढ पुष्णन्त्यरिं विना

Indeed, the gentle ones do not support activity for the destroyer, except for the enemy.

याम्यदिग्गमनं त्यक्त्वा सर्वकाष्ठासु यायिनाम्

Except for travel toward the southern direction, journeys in all directions are permitted.

पञ्चाङ्गशुद्धिरहिते दिवसे ऽपि फलप्रदः

Even on a day lacking purity of the five limbs, it yields fruit.

फलसिद्धिर्यागलग्नाद्राज्ञां विप्रश्य धिष्ण्यतः

Success of the result comes from the time of departure, after consulting the king and the officiant.

केन्द्रत्रिकोणे ह्येकेन योगः शुक्रज्ञसूरिणाम्

In the center and triangle, there is a single yoga for Venus, Mercury, and the Sun.

योगे ऽपि यायिनां क्षेममधियोगे जयो भवेत्

Even in yoga, for those who travel, there is safety; in the superior yoga, victory is attained.
