Narada Purana
मृगः पितृगणाधिशस्ततो दौवारि काह्वयः
Mriga, the lord of the ancestors, then Dauvāri and Kāhvaya.
अथेशानादिकोणस्थाश्चात्वारस्तत्समीपगाः
And four deities situated near the northeast corner.
एकान्तरा स्युः प्रागाद्याः परितो ब्रह्मणः स्मृताः
Those beginning from the east are placed at intervals, all around Brahma.
मित्रोथ राजयक्ष्मा च तथा पृथ्वीधराह्वयः
Mitra, Rājayakṣmā, and also the one called Pṛthvīdhara.
आपश्चैवापवत्सश्च पर्जन्यो ऽग्निर्दितिः क्रमात्
Water, the calf, the rain-cloud, fire, and Aditi, in order.
तन्मध्ये विंशतिर्बाह्या द्विपदास्ते तु सर्वदा
Among them, twenty are external, and these are always bipeds.
ब्रह्मणः पारितो दिक्षु चत्वारस्त्रिपदाः स्मृताः
Around Brahma, in the directions, four are said to be tripeds.
वास्तुमन्त्रेण वास्तुज्ञो दूर्वादध्यक्षतादिभिः
With the vastu-mantra, the knower of vastu, using sacred grass, curds, rice, and the like,
आवाहनादिसर्वोपचारांश्च क्रमशस्तथा
Should perform, in order, all the upacaras beginning with invocation.
ताम्बूलं च ततः कर्ता प्रार्थयेद्वास्तुपूरुषम्
Then, the performer should offer betel and pray to the Vastu-purusha.
मद्गृहे धनधान्यादिसमृद्धं कुरु सर्वदा
"Make my house always abundant in wealth, grain, and the like."
दद्यात्तदग्रे विप्रेभ्यो भोजनं च स्वशक्तितः
After that, one should give food to the Brahmins according to one's ability.
आरोग्यं पुत्रलाभं च धनं धान्यं लभेन्नरः
A man obtains health, sons, wealth, and grain.
रोगान्नानाविधान्क्लेशानश्नुते सर्वसंकटम्
He does not experience diseases, various kinds of suffering, or any calamity.
गृहं न प्रविशेदेवं विपदामाकरं हि तत्
One should not enter a house otherwise, for it is a source of misfortune.
स्यात्तथा तां प्रवक्ष्यामि सम्यग्विज्ञातजन्मनाम्
Thus, I shall properly explain that for those who are well-versed in knowledge.
प्रश्नोदयनिमित्ताद्यैस्तेषामपि फलोदयः
For them, the results arise also from omens, questions, and the like.
यात्रा शुक्लप्रतिपदि निर्द्धनाय क्षयाय च
A journey on the first day of the bright fortnight leads to poverty and loss.
असप्तपञ्चत्र्याद्येषु यात्राभीष्टफलप्रदाः
Journeys on days not the seventh, fifth, or third yield the desired results.
सितार्कयेर्न प्रतीचीं नोदीचीं ज्ञारयोर्द्दिने
On the day of the conjunction of the Moon and Sun, one should not go west or north.
शूलानि सर्वद्वाराणि मित्रार्केज्याश्वभानि च
All doors, the śūla, the friend's Sun, the worshipped horse, and the like—
परिघं लङ्घयेद्दण्डं नाग्निश्वसनर्दिग्गमम्
One should cross the parigha, not the staff, nor go in the directions of fire or wind.
दिग्राशयस्तु क्रमशो मेषाद्याश्च पुनः पुनः
The directions and their lords, beginning with Aries, are considered in sequence, again and again.
लग्नस्थो भास्करः प्राच्यां दिशि यातुर्ललाटगः
If the Sun is in the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the eastern direction.
दशमस्थः कुजो लग्नाद्याभ्यां यातुर्ललाटगः
If Mars is in the tenth house from the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the direction from the ascendant and the tenth.
लग्नात्सप्तमगः सौरिः प्रतीच्यां तु ललाटगः
If Saturn is in the seventh from the ascendant, the traveler’s forehead is toward the western direction.
चतुर्थस्थानगः सौम्यश्चोत्तरस्यां ललाटगः
If Mercury is in the fourth place, the traveler’s forehead is toward the northern direction.
ललाटं तु परित्यज्य जीवितेच्छुर्व्रजेन्नरः
One who desires life should avoid the forehead direction and proceed.
तस्य भङ्गप्रदो राज्ञस्त द्वर्गो ऽपि विलग्नगः
If the king’s malefic planet is joined with the ascendant, it brings destruction for him.
तदभावे दिवारात्रौ यायाद्यातुर्वधो ऽन्यथा
If that is absent, then by day or night, the traveler should go; otherwise, there is death.
