पिशाचांशे गृहारंभे दुःखशोकभयप्रदः
If a house is begun in the portion belonging to spirits, it brings suffering, sorrow, and fear.
शिराः स्युर्वास्तुनोरेखा दिग्विदिग्मध्यसंभवाः
The lines of the plot’s head arise from the directions, the intermediate directions, and the center.
तत्र तत्र विजानीयाद्वास्तुनो मर्मसंधयः
One should recognize at various places the vital joints of the plot.
सौम्यफआल्गुनवैशाखमाघश्रावणकार्तिकाः
Auspicious are Phālguna, Vaiśākha, Māgha, Śrāvaṇa, Kārtika, and the months ruled by Soma.
अकारादिषु भाग्षु दिक्षु प्रागादिषु क्रमात्
In the divisions beginning with 'a' and so on, in the directions starting from the east, in order.
दिग्वर्गाणामियं योनिः स्ववर्गात्पञ्चमो रिपुः
This is the origin of the directions’ groups; the fifth from one’s own group is the enemy.
व्यत्यये नाशनं तस्य ऋणमध्यं धनाच्छुभम्
If there is an exchange, it causes destruction; the middle is debt, and wealth brings auspiciousness.
विभेजेत्सप्तभिः शेषं साधकस्य धनं तदा
One should fear the seven; the remainder then brings wealth to the practitioner.
तस्माद्धनाधनायर्क्षवारांशाः संख्यया क्रमात्
Therefore, the portions of wealth and non-wealth should be counted in order according to the signs.
विषमायः शुभघायैव समायो निर्धनाय च
Odd numbers bring auspiciousness and gain; even numbers bring loss of wealth.
आत्मक्षयः सप्तमर्क्षे भवत्येव हि भर्तृभात्
In the seventh sign, there is always self-destruction for the owner.
षट्काष्टकं मृत्यवे स्याच्छुभदाराशयः परे
The sixth and eighth bring death; the others are auspicious for wife and home.
इतरे ग्रहवारांशाः सर्वकामार्थसिद्धिदाः
The remaining planetary portions grant the fulfillment of all desires and purposes.
पूर्वादिकशिरोवामपार्श्वेशायाप्रदक्षिणम्
From the east, the head is on the left side of the plot, moving counterclockwise.
यद्दिङ्मुखो वास्तुपुमान् कुर्यात्तद्दिङ्मुखं गृहम्
If the master of the plot faces a certain direction, he should build the house facing that direction.
सबलो मुखगेहानामेष दोषो न विद्यते
If the owner is strong, there is no fault in building a house facing his own direction.
गृहमध्ये हस्तमात्रे गर्ते न्यासाय विन्यसेत्
In the center of the house, at a distance of a hand, a pit should be made for the deposit.
कुक्षिस्तस्मिन्न्यसेच्छङ्कुं पुत्रपौत्रविवर्धनम्
In that pit, a stake should be placed in the belly, for the increase of sons and grandsons.
विप्रादीनां कुक्षिमानं स्वर्णवस्त्राद्यलङ्कृतम्
The abdomen of Brahmins and others, adorned with gold, cloth, and similar ornaments.
रक्तचन्दनपालाशरक्तशानविशालजम्
Produced from red sandalwood, palāśa, red stone, and large red materials.
अष्टास्रं च तृतीयासौ मन्वस्रं मृदुमव्रणम्
It should be octagonal; the third is the Manu-shaped, soft and without blemish.
षड्वर्गशुद्धिसूत्रेण सूत्रिते धरणीतले
Marked on the earth with the thread of the six-fold purification.
व्यर्कारचरलग्नेषु पापे चाष्टमवर्जिते
When the ascendant is not afflicted by malefics or the eighth house is avoided.
शुभेक्षिते ऽथ वा युक्ते लग्ने शङ्कुं विनिक्षिपेत्
When the ascendant is viewed by benefics or joined with them, then the stake should be placed.
स्वत्रिकेन्द्रत्रिकोणस्थैः शुभैस्त्र्यायारिगैः परैः
With benefics situated in their own trines, angles, or triangles, and with others in the third, sixth, or eleventh houses.
एकद्वित्रिचतुःशालाः सप्त शाला दशाह्वयाः
One, two, three, four halls; seven halls called ten-hall houses.
ध्रुवं धान्यं जयं नन्दं खरः कान्तं मनोरमम्
Dhruva, Dhānya, Jaya, Nanda, Khara, Kānta, Manorama.
आक्रन्दं विपुलाख्य च विजयं षोडशं गृहम्
Ākranda, Vipulākhya, Vijaya, and the sixteenth house.
गुरोरघो लघुः स्थाप्यः पुरस्तादूर्ध्ववन्न्यसेत्
The heavy or light should be established in front, and the upward one should be placed above.
कुर्याल्लघुपदे ऽलिन्दं गृहद्वारात्प्रदक्षिणम्
One should make a verandah with a light step, circumambulating from the house door.
