न तयोर्व्रतमुद्वाहान्मङ्गले नान्यमङ्गलम्
For them, there is no vow, nor auspiciousness, nor any other auspicious rite.
असंशयं त्रिभिर्वर्षैस्तत्रैका विधवा भवेत्
Without doubt, within three years, one of them will become a widow.
न चैकजन्ययोः पुंसोरेकजन्ये तु कन्यके
Nor for those born from one father, but for a girl born from one mother.
दिवाजातस्तु पितरं रात्रौ तु जननीं तथा
Born by day, one should honor the father; by night, likewise, the mother.
सुतः सुता वा नियतं श्वसुरं हॄन्ति मूलजः
A son or daughter, born of the root lineage, inevitably takes away the father-in-law.
ज्येष्टान्त्यपादजौ ज्येष्टं बालो हॄन्ति न बालिका
Among the eldest and youngest born, the eldest boy takes away, but not the eldest girl.
सैन्द्री धवाग्रजं हॄन्ति देवरं तु द्विदैवजा
The wife born under the Indra constellation takes away the elder brother of her husband; but the one born under two divine stars takes away the brother-in-law.
वधूप्रवेश संपत्त्यैदशमे सप्तमे दिने
On the seventh day after the bride's entry and the acquisition of wealth, the ritual is performed.
संत्यज्य ह्यतिशुक्रे ऽपि यात्रा वैवाहिकी शुभा
Even if the day is highly auspicious, the marriage journey should be abandoned.
गीर्वाणपूर्वगीर्वाणमत्रिणोर्दृश्यमानयोः
When the two celestial signs, Girvāṇa and Girvāṇa, or Atri, are visible.
शुक्लपक्षेषु कृष्णेषु तदादिष्वष्टसु शुभम्
In the bright and dark lunar fortnights, and in the eight auspicious days beginning from those.
द्वतीयादिद्वये पञ्चम्यादितस्तिसृषु क्रमात्
On the second and third days, and in the three days starting from the fifth, in sequence.
त्र्युत्तरादितिचन्द्रान्त्यहस्तत्रयगुरूडुषु
On the three days beginning with Tryuttara, and at the end of the lunar month, when the hands are favorable, and when Jupiter and the Sun are strong.
कुजवर्जितवारेषु कर्तुः सूर्ये बलप्रदे
On days excluding those ruled by Mars, when the Sun is strong for the performer.
शुभलग्ने शुभांशे च कर्त्तुर्न निधनोदये
In an auspicious ascendant and auspicious division, but not when the performer rises at the time of death.
पञ्चाष्टके शुभे लग्ने नैधने शुद्धिसंयुते
In the fifth and eighth auspicious ascendants, and when associated with purity at the time of death.
कर्त्तुर्मृत्युप्रदाश्चान्ये धनधान्यसुखप्रदाः
Other times bring death to the performer, but grant wealth, grain, and happiness.
तृतीये निखिलाः खेटाः पुत्रपौत्रसुखप्रदाः
On the third day, all planets grant happiness from sons and grandsons.
ग्लानिदाः पञ्चमे क्रूराः सौम्याः पुत्रसुखप्रदाः
On the fifth day, cruel planets cause illness, while gentle ones grant happiness from sons.
व्याधिदाः सप्तमे पापाः सौम्याः शुभफलप्रदाः
On the seventh day, malefic planets cause disease, while benefic ones grant auspicious results.
धर्मे पापा घ्नन्ति सौम्याः शुभदा मङ्गलप्रदाः
In the place of dharma, malefic planets destroy, while benefic ones grant auspiciousness and good fortune.
लाभस्थानगताः सर्वे भूरिलाभप्रदा ग्रहाः
All planets situated in the place of gain grant abundant profit.
हॄन्त्यर्थहीनाः कर्तारं मन्त्रहीनास्तु ऋत्विजम्
If the ritual lacks the proper purpose, the blame falls upon the performer; if it lacks the proper mantra, the blame falls upon the officiating priest.
गुणाधिकतरे लग्ने दोषः स्वल्पतरो यदि
If, at the time of commencement, the virtues are greater and the faults are minor,
निर्माणायतनग्रामगृहादीनां समासतः
Regarding the construction of shrines, villages, houses, and the like, in brief,
मधुपुष्पाम्लपिशितगन्धं विप्रानुपूर्वकम्
Honey, flowers, sour substances, meat, and fragrance are to be offered to the Brahmins in proper sequence.
मधुरं कटुकं तिक्तं कषायकरसं क्रमात्
Sweet, pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes are to be given in order.
अन्यदिक्षु प्लवे तेषां शश्वदत्यन्तहानिदम्
If any of these are placed in the wrong direction, there is continual and absolute loss.
अत्यन्तवृद्धिरधिके हीने हानिः समे समम्
Excess brings extreme increase; deficiency brings loss; equality yields balance.
प्रातर्दृष्टे जले वृद्धिः समं पङ्के क्षयः क्षये
If water is seen in the morning, there is increase; if mud is seen, there is loss; if loss is seen, there is decrease.
