एते नवांशाः शुभदा वृषभस्यांशकाः खलु
These nine divisions of Taurus are indeed givers of good fortune.
अन्ये नवांशा न ग्राह्या यतस्ते कुनवांशकाः
Other nine divisions are not to be accepted, for they are of bad divisions.
यस्मिन्दिने महापातस्तद्दिनं वर्जयेच्छुभे
On the day when there is a great fall, that day should be avoided for auspicious acts.
अनुक्ताः स्वल्पदोषाः स्युर्विद्युन्नीहारवृष्टयः
Those not mentioned may have minor faults, such as lightning, mist, or rain.
लत्तोपग्रहपाताख्या मासदग्धाह्वया तिथिः
The tithi called burnt by the month, known as Lattopagrahapāta, is so named.
एवमाद्यास्ततस्तेषां व्यवस्था क्रियते ऽधुना
Thus, their arrangements are now established from the beginning.
दोषाय मङ्गले नूनमदोषायैव कालतः
Certainly, for auspiciousness, they are faults; by time, they are not faults.
एको ऽपि दोषनिचयं हरत्येव न संशयः
Even one removes a heap of faults, without doubt.
द्वितीये शंभुकोणे ऽग्निधिष्ण्यं चक्रे प्रविन्यसेत्
In the second, the Śaṃbhu corner, the fire altar should be properly placed.
पुरतः पृष्टतोर्ऽकाद्या दिनर्क्षं लत्तयन्ति यत्
In front and behind, the Sun and others mark the day and night as they move.
सूर्यभात्सार्प्पपित्र्यान्त्यत्वाष्ट्रमित्रोडुविष्णुभम्
The Sun, Bhāt, Sārpa, Pitṛ, Antya, Tvaṣṭṛ, Mitra, Uḍu, Viṣṇu, and Bhama.
सौराष्ट्रे साल्वदेशे तु लत्तितं भं विवर्जयेत्
In Saurāṣṭra and Sālva regions, the Bhama should be avoided when marking.
बाह्लिके कुरुदेशे चान्यस्मिन्देशे न दूषणम्
In Bāhlika, Kuru, and other regions, there is no fault in this.
मध्यदेशे विवर्ज्यानि न दृष्टानीतरेषु च
In Madhyadeśa, these should be avoided, but not in other places seen.
गौडमालवयोस्त्याज्या अन्यदेशे न गर्हिताः
In Gauḍa and Mālava, they must be abandoned; in other regions, they are not censured.
अपि धातुरतो ग्राह्यं दोषाल्पत्वं गुणाधिकम्
Even if from a lesser metal, it may be accepted, as its faults are minor and its virtues greater.
हस्तोच्छ्रितां चतुर्हस्तैश्चतुरस्रां समन्ततः
Raised by four hands, and square on all sides, with four hands in measure.
समण्डपां चतुर्दिक्षु सोपानैरतिशोभिताम्
With a pavilion in four directions, adorned with stairways, it shines beautifully.
विचित्रितां चित्रकुंभैर्विविधैस्तोरणाङ्कुरैः
Decorated with painted pots and various archways and sprouts.
विप्राशीर्वचनैः पुण्यस्रीभिर्दिव्यैर्मनोरमाम्
Blessed by the words of Brahmins, with auspicious fortune, divine and delightful.
एवं विधां समारोहेन्मिथुनं स्वाग्निवेदिकाम्
Thus, in this manner, one should assemble the altar for the sacred fire with the pair.
राशीशयोनिर्वर्णाख्यऋतवः पुत्रपौत्रदाः
The signs, origins, colors, seasons, and those who grant sons and grandsons.
उत्तमं मध्यमं भिन्नं राश्यैकत्वं ययोस्तयोः
Excellent, middling, or divided—the unity of signs in both of them.
स्त्रीधिष्ण्यादाद्यनवके स्त्रीदूरमतिनिन्दितम्
From the woman's altar, the first nine are greatly censured as far from the woman.
तिस्रः पूर्वोत्तरा धातृयाम्यमाहेशतारकाः
Three—Pūrva, Uttara, Dhātṛ, Yāma, Īśa, and Tārakā.
हर्यादित्यार्कवाय्वन्त्यमित्राश्वीज्येन्दुतारकाः
Hari, Āditya, Arka, Vāyu, Antya, Mitra, Aśvī, Jyeṣṭha, Indu, and Tārakā.
वसुवारीशमूलाहितारकाभिर्युतास्ततः
Then, it is joined with stars placed at the roots of Vasu, Varuna, and Ishvara.
मध्यमा देवमर्त्यानां राक्षसानां तयोर्मृतिः
The middle position is for gods, mortals, and demons; for them, it signifies death.
नैःस्व्य द्विर्द्वादशे ऽन्येषु दंपत्योः प्रीतिरुत्तमा
In the second and twelfth houses, in other cases, the affection between husband and wife is excellent.
द्विर्दादशे त्रिकोणे च न कदाचित्षडष्टके
In the second, twelfth, and trine houses, but never in the sixth or eighth.
