कन्या लग्ने विधेयं च पौष्टिकाखिलमङ्गलम्
When Virgo rises, nourishing and all auspicious acts should be performed.
तुलायामखिलं कर्म तुलाभाराश्रिते च यत्
All actions in Libra, and whatever is associated with weighing scales.
चौर्यकर्मस्थिरारंभाः कर्तव्या वृश्चिकोदये
Acts of theft and stable undertakings should be performed when Scorpio rises.
चरस्थिरविमिश्रं च कर्तव्यं कार्मुकोदये
Movable, immovable, and mixed acts should be performed when Sagittarius rises.
प्रस्थानं पशुदासादि कर्तव्यं मकरोदये
Departure and acts related to livestock and servants should be performed when Capricorn rises.
जलपात्रास्त्राशस्त्रादि कर्तव्यं कलशोदये
Acts involving water vessels, weapons, and implements should be performed when Aquarius rises.
भूषणं जलपात्राश्वकर्म मीनोदये शुभम्
Adornment, acts involving water vessels, and horses are auspicious when Pisces rises.
क्रूरग्रहेक्षितेषूग्रसंयुतेषूग्रमेव हि
When observed by cruel planets or joined with fierce ones, it is indeed fierce.
शुभर्क्षत्वाशुभासत्य इतरा पापराशयः
Auspicious stars, inauspicious, and those that are neutral—others are of sinful disposition.
फलं ताभ्यां विहीनो ऽसौ स्वभावमुपसर्पति
If one is deprived of the results by these, he attains his own inherent nature.
अन्ते तुच्छफले लग्ने सर्वस्मिन्नेवमेव हि
When, in the end, the result is insignificant, it is the same in every case.
कल्प्यामदिन्दौ बलिनि सप्तमे बलिनो ग्रहाः
In the calculation, if the Moon is strong, the planets strong in the seventh (house) are considered.
आधारभूतेनाधेयं धीयते परिधिष्टिनम्
The foundation is established by that which is to be supported, according to the prescribed boundary.
अशुभश्चेदशुभदा वर्जयित्वा धनाधिपम्
If it is inauspicious, producing inauspicious results, except for the lord of wealth.
लग्नोद्भवं फलं धत्ते धनातीतो द्वितीयकम्
The result arising from the ascendant is given; the second (house) is governed by the lord of wealth.
लग्नं सर्वगुणोपेतं लभ्यते ऽल्पैर्दिनैर्नो
An ascendant endowed with all virtues is not obtained in a few days.
दोषाद्दुष्टो हि कालस्तमपि मार्ष्टुं पितामहः
If time is corrupted by a fault, even the Grandfather (Brahmā) cannot cleanse it.
अमारिक्ताष्टमीषष्टीद्वादशीप्रतिपत्स्वपि
Even on the eighth, sixth, twelfth lunar days, and the first day, if not purified—
संध्यासूपप्लवे विष्ट्यामशुभं प्रथमार्त्तवम्
At the disturbance of twilight, during Viṣṭi, and at the first menses, inauspiciousness arises.
पतिव्रता केशयुक्ता सूर्यवारादिषु क्रमात्
A devoted wife, with hair adorned, on Sundays and so forth, in order—
तारका न हिता मासा मधूर्जशुचिपौषकाः
The stars are not favorable in the months of Māgha, Jyeṣṭha, Śuci, and Pauṣa.
कुलटा पापभोगेषु निन्द्यर्क्षे निन्द्यवासरे
An unchaste woman, indulging in sin, on censured stars and censured days—
सुवर्णगोतिलान्दद्यात्सर्वदोषापनुत्तये
One should give gold, cows, and sesame to remove all faults.
ओजराश्यंशगे चन्द्रे लग्ने पुङ्ग्रहवीक्षिते
When the Moon is in a sign of strength, and the ascendant is aspected by male planets—
पुत्रार्थी पुरुषशस्त्यक्त्वा पौष्णमूलाहिपित्र्यभम्
A man desiring a son should avoid the lunar mansions of Puṣya, Mūla, Āśleṣā, and Pitṛ.
मासे पुंसवनं कार्यं सीमन्तं च यथा तथा
In that month, the Puṃsavana rite should be performed, and likewise the Sīmantonnayana.
बलोपपन्ने दंपत्योश्चन्द्रताराबलान्विते
