तिथेः पञ्चदशो भागः क्रमात्प्रतिपदादयः
A lunar day is divided into fifteen parts, beginning successively from the first day.
रविः स्थिरश्चरश्चन्द्रः क्रूरो वक्रोखिलो बुधः
The Sun is fixed, the Moon is moving, Mars is cruel, Mercury is retrograde and obstructive.
अभ्यक्तो भानुवारे यः स नरः क्लेशवान्भवेत्
Whoever is unpurified on a Sunday, that person will experience suffering.
जीवे नैवं सिते हानिर्मन्दे सर्वसमृद्धयः
If Jupiter is not so, in the bright fortnight there is no loss; if weak, all prosperity is attained.
देशान्तरस्वचरार्द्धनाडीभिरपरे भवेत्
Others are determined by half-nāḍīs, according to the movement to other regions or their own.
तत्कर्म बलहीनस्य दुःखेनापि न सिद्ध्याति
That action does not succeed for one who is weak, even with great difficulty.
फलदास्त्वितरे क्रूरे कर्मस्वभिमतप्रदाः
Others, being harsh, grant results and bestow the desired outcomes in actions.
दूर्वावर्णो वुधो जीवः पीतश्वेतस्तु भार्गवः
A being with the color of dūrvā grass is lunar; one who is yellow or white is of Bhārgava (Venus).
अद्रिवाणाश्च यस्तर्कपातालवसुधाधराः
Those who are called mountain, arrow, and those who support the underworld and earth—
त्र्येकाहयो नेत्रगोत्ररामाश्वद्ररसर्तवः
Three, one, horse, eye, lineage, Rāma, horse, taste, and season—
प्रहरार्द्धप्रमाणास्ते विज्ञेयाः सूर्यवासरात्
Their measure is to be known as half a prahara, calculated from sunrise.
आद्यः षष्टो द्वितीयो ऽस्मत्तत्षष्ठस्तुतृतीयकः
The first is the sixth, the second is ours, the sixth is the third.
सार्द्धनाडीद्वयेनैव दिवा रात्रौ यथाक्रमात्
By exactly one and a half nāḍīs each, during day and night, in their respective order.
नक्षत्रेशाः क्रमाद्दस्रयमवह्निपितामहाः
The lords of the lunar mansions, in order, are the Vasus, Agni, and Pitāmaha.
अर्यमार्कत्वष्टृमरुच्छक्राग्निमित्रवासवः
Aryaman, Arka, Tvaṣṭṛ, Marut, Śakra, Agni, Mitra, and Vāsava—
अजैकपादहिर्बुध्न्या पूषा चेति प्रकीर्तिताः
Ajaikapād, Ahibudhnya, and Pūṣā are also named.
अधोमुखं तु नवकं भानौ तत्र विधीयते
The nine that are downward-facing are prescribed in the Sun there.
शिल्पकर्मकलाकूपनिक्षेपोद्धरणादि यत्
All that pertains to crafts, arts, wells, deposits, and extraction—
तिर्यङ्मुखाख्यं नवकं भानौ तत्र विधीयते
The nine called 'transverse-facing' are prescribed in the Sun there.
खरगोरथनौयानलुलायहयकर्म च
Works involving donkeys, cows, chariots, boats, fire, and horses—
ऊर्द्धास्यं नवकं भानां प्रोक्तमत्र विधीयते
The nine that are upward-facing are declared and prescribed here among the Suns.
प्रासादतोरणारामप्राकाराद्यं च सिद्ध्यति
Success is attained in palaces, gateways, gardens, ramparts, and the like.
साधारणं द्विदैवत्यं वह्निभं च प्रकीर्तितम्
The common, the two-deity, and the fire-like (muhurta) are described.
मृद्विन्दुमित्रचित्रान्त्यमुग्रं पूर्वामघात्रिकम्
Mṛdvin, Bindu, Mitra, Citrāntya, Ugra, Pūrvā, Maghā, and Trika.
चित्रादित्यंबुविष्ण्वंबान्त्याधिमित्रवसूडुषु

दर्शाष्टभ्यां चतुर्दश्यां पशूनां न कदाचन
On Darśa, Aṣṭamī, and Caturdaśī, one should never sacrifice animals.
हलप्रवाहं प्रथमं विदध्यान्मूलभे वृषैः
The first plowing should be done at the root time, with bulls.
अग्रे वृद्ध्यै त्रयं लक्ष्म्ये सौम्यपार्श्वे च पञ्चकम्
For growth, three times at the beginning; for prosperity, five times on the auspicious side.
