पितृद्विदैवधातॄणां भिद्यन्ते गण्डतारकाः
The stars of the Pitṛ, Dvi, Daiva, and Dhātṛ groups are divided.
त्रिषूत्तरासु रोहिण्यां नैरृते श्रवणे मृगे
In the three Uttaras, Rohiṇī, Nairṛti, Śravaṇa, and Mṛga—
भूमिजः सर्वधिष्ण्यानामुदगामी शुभघप्रदः
If Mars moves northward through all the stations, it brings auspicious results.
विनोत्पातेन शशिनः कदाचिन्नोदयं व्रजेत्
Except when there is an eclipse of the Moon, it should never rise.
वसुवैष्णवविश्वेन्दुधातृभेषु चरन्बुधः
When Mercury moves among the Vasus, Vaiṣṇavas, Viśvedevas, and Dhātṛs—
आर्द्रादिपितृभान्तेषु दृश्यते यदि चन्द्रजः
If the son of the Moon is seen from Ārdrā to the end of Pitṛ stars—
हस्तादिषट्सु तारासु विचरन्निन्दुनन्दनः
When the son of the Moon moves among the six stars from Hasta onward—
अहिर्बुध्न्यार्यमाग्नेययाम्यभेषु चरन्बुधः
When Mercury moves among the Ahibudhnya, Aryaman, Agni, and Yama groups—
पूर्वात्रयेचरन्सौम्यो योगतारां भिनत्ति चेत्
If the gentle planet moves among the three eastern groups, it breaks the conjunction star.
याम्याग्निधातृवायव्यधिष्णयेषु प्राकृता गतिः
In the stations of Yama, Agni, Dhātṛ, and Vāyu, the movement is considered ordinary.
भाग्यार्यमेज्यादितिषु संक्षिप्ता गतिरुच्यते
In the stations of Bhaga, Aryaman, Ijya, and Aditi, the movement is said to be restricted.
योमातिकातिविश्वाबुमूलमत्स्यैन्यजस्य च
For Yoma, Atikā, Tiviṣva, Abūmūla, Matsya, and Aja—
इन्द्राग्निमित्रमार्तण्डभेषु पापाह्वयागतिः
In the stations of Indra, Agni, Mitra, and Mārtaṇḍa, the movement is called inauspicious.
यावन्त्येव दिनान्येष दृश्यस्तावत्यदृश्यगः
For as many days as he is visible, for that many days he remains invisible.
पञ्चदशैकादशभिर्दिवसैः शशिनन्दनः
The son of the Moon is visible for fifteen or eleven days.
मिश्रसक्षिप्तयोर्मध्ये फलदो ऽन्यासु वृष्टिदः
Between mixed and restricted movements, he gives fruit; in other cases, he brings rain.
जगतां पापफलदस्त्वितरेषु शुभप्रदः
Among beings, he brings the fruit of sin; among others, he bestows auspiciousness.
उदितश्चन्द्रजः श्रेष्ठो रजतस्फटिकोपयः
When risen, the moon-born is supreme, resembling silver or crystal.
शुचिर्मध्यो नभः श्रेष्ठो भाद्रः श्रेष्ठः क्वचिन्नरः
The pure is middling; the sky-born is best; Bhādra is sometimes excellent among men.
शुभप्रदौ पौषमाधौ मध्यमौ फआल्गुनो मधुः
Pauṣa and Māgha are auspicious; Phālguna and Madhu are middling.
शुचिर्मध्यो नभः श्रेष्ठो भाद्रः श्रेष्ठः क्वचिन्नर
The pure is middling; the sky-born is best; Bhādra is sometimes excellent among men.
सौम्ये भागे चरन्भानां क्षेमारोग्यसुभिक्षकृत्
When moving through the gentle portion, the Sun brings safety, health, and abundance.
पीताग्निश्यामहरितरक्तवर्णोगिराः क्रमात्
Yellow, fiery, dark, green, and red are the colors of the rays, in order.
अनावृष्टिं भूम्ननिभः करोति सुरपूजितः
Resembling the earth, worshipped by the gods, he causes drought.
संवत्सरशरीरं स्यात्कृत्तिका रोहिणी तथा
The body of the year consists of Kṛttikā and Rohiṇī as well.
दुर्भिक्षाग्निमरुद्भीतिः शरीरं क्रूरपीडिते
Famine, fire, wind, and fear afflict the body when it is tormented by cruelty.
हृदयेशस्य निधनं शुभं स्यात्संयुतैः शुभैः
The lord of the heart meets his end; auspiciousness arises when joined with auspicious ones.
इति द्विजातिमध्यां तु गोनृपस्त्रीसुखं महत्
Thus, among the twice-born, there is great happiness from cows, kings, and women.
महार्घमपि संपत्तिर्देशनाशो ऽतिवर्षणम्
Even great wealth is lost, destruction of land and excessive rainfall occur.
रोगो धान्यं नभो ऽदृष्टिमघाद्यृक्षगते गुरौ
Disease, grain, the sky, and invisibility—these pertain to Guru when he is in Maghā and other signs.
